Hello guys im 25 years old and i weight 380 im trying to do the surgery and im already in the process but i have hard time choosing the right bariatric surgery, i want to do the sleeve because it looks simple and clean and less cutting but every one is telling me to get the bypass because they say ill lose weight quicker so im confused because im scared of the bypass so what im asking is will i lose alot of weight and fast with the sleeve surgery has any guy with the same weight range as me has had the sleeve surgery and succeeded with it

this is something you need to discuss with your bariatric doctor. he/she will be able to answer your questions and help you decide the best procedure.

Unfortunately, no one can make the decision for you unless there is a real medical issue pushing the decision one way or the other. My friend could only choose sleeve because she has irritable bowel syndrome and needs to be able to be scoped. I had bad reflux and chose bypass because it has a better success rate for reducing GERD symptoms (no meds -- not even a TUMS since surgery).

Go to some good websites like WebMD and the Mayo Clinic site and read up on the different surgeries. This link has a good, factual discussion of the differences in surgeries:

You'll get personal stories here but they are all based on that person's medical history, feelings about the surgery, etc. Both bypass and sleeve alter your body and both require supplements to be sure you're getting the nutrition you need.

One more thing I forgot to mention in my novel... You should also look at maximum excess weight loss and the long-term success rate -- not just how fast you lose. This is a marathon and not a sprint!

the only thing i can say is, does it really matter to you how FAST you lose, as long as you lose? i would rather lose a little slower and have the surgery i'm most comfortable with, and you sound like you feel most comfortable with the sleeve. i felt the same way, and that's the way i'm going.

I was advised to get the bypass originally due to my high BMI and failure with the lapband. At the time I could not wrap my mind around the bypass so had decided to stay obese and miserable. I contacted a lifestyle based program and they told me I needed surgery and to consider the sleeve. I have been very successful with the sleeve and maintaining for awhile but I no longer have the negative feeling about the bypass. I think you should talk it over with your surgeon and do some reading. Personal stories like mine can lead you down a path and we don't really know you medical profile. There are some good reasons to choose one surgery over the other and that should be discussed with a surgeon.

I believe it is always better to consult a surgeon before taking a decision on which process to go forward with.Only an expert can help you decide which of the two is the best process.Though both the procedures are quite similar but in gastric bypass the weight loss is faster than in the gastric sleeve surgery.Also the risk of dumping syndrome is more in the gastric sleeve surgery.I would therefore go back to the surgeon for the right decision.

The bypass you will loose weight faster but if you look long term the weight loss is the same. With less complications. It all depends on your co morbid irises and how n why you are doing this. Do u need results fast to help or are you looking to prevent n eventually get off meds.. Always consult your doctor

HI. I have had the band for 5 years but it has been fighting me for the past 2. I decided on a conversion to sleeve due to my aversion for major surgery/ replumbing. Hey, I can always "upgrade" later. And, all that being said, the LapBand removal and Sleeve are a major surgery anyway.

Seriously, speak to your doctor. A bariatric surgeon not just any surgeon. Find someone you can trust. I am 54 so could go either way, but don't feel like living on handfuls of tablets for the rest of my life, so am opting for sleeve as that apparently requires a Multivitamin and B12 supplements.
