Excited. Have done a ton of research, therefore I would be an idiot if I weren't nervous also. Just got insurance approval yesterday, and I am schedule for the 25th. Been on the journey since November. Figure doing some talking with some informed people would be a good thing.

I am proud to say that I am at my goal weight of 155. I started at 267 and have lost a total of 112. I just didn't think how my body would look like after I lost so much weight. I look great with clothes on but I still have my insecurities. I honestly thought that if I just lose this amount of weight I will be ok, well I've lost that amount and now don't know what to do with myself lol. Does anyone else feel like this? Will we ever be truly comfortable with our bodies? I do workout and trying to tone up, but no amount of working out will fix my lose skin. I know I could do a tummy tuck but I have other things to spend my money on and they call me mommy lol. Ok rant/ v…

Not sure if anyone can help me or give me some advice, but here goes. I have been with my boyfriend for a year and half. I was sleeved this Feb 5th and am now 4 months po. I have dropped 76 lbs so far and feeling a lot better as I continue to lose the weight. Anywho... lately my boyfriend seems to be less interested in me than before. He told me he didn't want me to have the surgery after I had it done but since has been doing nothing but pushing me, and telling me what to do. What I should eat, how much I should exercise, what exercises I should do... on and on. It's driving me crazy. He wants me to be at my goal weight ASAP so I can have the extra skin removed. I'm happ…

Hi all - I'm new to the group and wanted to introduce myself. My name is Michelle, I'm 47, live outside Philly, married, no kids. I'm only 5'1" and I started at 241 lbs so my BMI is a little over 46. According to the charts I need to lose about 130 lbs but I'll be happy with 90. Although reading the boards I may be able to achieve the 130! I'm in the middle of my pre-op liquid diet, my Dr only has me doing 1 week. I'm thankful as I noticed some people have to do a lot longer than that! I'm already down 9 lbs in 4 days I didn't grow up heavy but started gaining weight during my first marriage as a young adult and have yo-yo'd my entire adult life. I never really …

Hi All Just thought I would share my story for all those contemplating getting WLS. My surgery was scheduled for 10:30 am on May 22nd and I had to arrive at the hospital for 9. I was given an IV and hung out with my husband in a pre-op room until it was time for surgery. My Dr. came in to see me to make sure I was ready and all I said to him was "Let's do this"!! When it was time to go, I said my goodbyes to my husband and off I went. I was in the operating room for maybe 3 minutes and the next thing I remember I was waking up in the recovery room. I remember my throat being very dry and my voice was so scratchy. I was then brought to my hospital room and instruc…

I'm 4 months out from my surgery, and things are going great. I had no issues prior to surgery, no co-morbidities, but a BMI of 47 which was the qualifier. Everything went perfectly before and since. The only problems I had were 1. sticking to the pre-op diet, I did not do well 2. pain much greater than I had anticipated the week following surgery 3. overthinking and worrying about things prior to surgery I feel very lucky. Having said all this, I see that there is a common theme among all of us whether preparing for surgery, or recently sleeved, and that is "how fast am I losing?" or "is this a normal rate of loss?" I have lost about 45 pounds in four m…

Well, it is finally the week to really begin my lap band process. A little nervous and also anxious. I start my pre-surgery diet on the 12th and have been reading everything I can find. Not sure this is a good thing!! There are a lot of minimal concerns on what is to come and I am just taking it at face value that I will not have all the side effects that are mentioned. hair loss, skin conditions, esophagus spasm, headaches, bad breath and many others. I pray this goes smoothly. My doctor has been good with explaining the process and I feel I can trust him so I hope I am right. I wonder what this week will bring, will I be hungry since I will only be having the shakes thi…

Hi all, I'm new here - just started the process toward getting a sleeve with Kaiser Permanente in Southern CA - but I'm already wondering about food options. I know that, even now, I sometimes get in food ruts and make the same 4 things over and over and it gets old. After the surgery my food options will be so limited anyways that I dont want to feel further limited by my lack of creativity. Help me out. What are your favorite things to eat? Especially in the first months before I can really eat with my family again (but obviously with portion changes and carbs left out). And if anyone else is doing Options at Kaiser in Panorama City starting next week - hi!

My name is Lisa, from Costa Mesa . I'm 43 with 2 kids. In the last year I've been especially down about myself and my weight. I've always struggled with my weight but it got out of hand this past year at my heaviest weight of 256. After a few months of talking about the possibility of having a sleeve done I finally came to the conclusion that I would have it done. I had my first appointment in March and was scheduled to have surgery on May 28th. It has now been 2 weeks post op and I'm feeling great and have so many questions! Went for my one week checkup and lost 11 lbs. Not sure if that's typical. Also I am surprised at the amount of energy I had. It's now the 2nd wk po…

Hello All. My name is Tammy and I had a lap-band put in about 8 years ago. From the beginning I had complications with my band. Almost immediately I started coughing at night . If I had any restriction at all I would gag on almost everything and was constantly sick. After several months I had a slippage from all the excess vomitting. The slippage was repaired and once again I went down the path of night coughing and throwing up. Eventually I had all restriction removed and things seemed to simmer down, other than the irration of the port and it flipping.\ Move forward a few years and now I have ongoing issues with horrible painful diarrhea. If I eat normally a…

Hi all, my name is Shawna. I'm 41, a working mom and wife. I've been a "big girl" most of my life. Had a few good weight loss years but the weight always managed to come back again. I've always been very active but could never keep weight off. After having no kids to having my baby girl, then 2 step kids coming to live with us all in 7 months, anything about myself went out the window. Anyways, I'm in a much better mind frame now, love life but still struggle with the battle of the bulge. My doctor suggested bypass surgery back in 2012 and I finally agreed for her to refer me to the hospital. My first "session" at the weight clinic was in February 2013 which was t…

Hi everyone I am Amy from Michigan I am just beginning my journey. I have been battling with my weight my entire life and I'm just sick of it! I want to get healthy for myself and my seven-year-old so I can go out and enjoy life with him rather than sitting by watching. Monday I went to the seminar at Beaumont in Grosse Pointe and met Dr. Maguid I really likeed him think that's who I want to stick with. The only downfall is I cannot get into see him for the initial consultation till July 28. Figure I can just try to get as much paperwork in order as possible so I'm ready to go. Today I had my appointment with my PCP and they are totally supportive. This coming Monday I ha…

Well I survived the first week. When I went the the hospital last Wednesday, I was excited, nervous and scared, all at once. I weighed in with a loss of 21 pounds loss from the liquid diet that I followed religiously for 9 days prior. It was so hard. I started on Memorial Day, got extremely sick that night. But I didn't give up , I stuck with it and succeeded that first step. Going through with the surgery was the second major step. Now one to step three losing the weight. The hardest part is figuring this all out. I had surgery Wednesday June 4th morning, and went home Friday afternooon. I had a normal recovery period in the hospital. Typical stomach pain, tir…

Hi everyone! I have just decided this past week to pursue weight loss surgery. My PCP says that I should have the bypass. I can't take hearing how pretty I would be if I lost weight another time. My final straw was lying to my husband..... He is taking me on a cruise for our anniversary... We were deciding on flying or driving. I lied to him... I told him I was scared of flying so we agreed We would drive to the port.... I can't take any of this anymore. I want a life of less fear and more LIVING. I just pray that I will qualify and not have any issues getting this done. I need help!!!

Hi all I am relatively new here and I've got quite a few questions! My story I've been heavy all my life and I've had diabetes and high blood pressure for over 5 years now so I decided bypass surgery was my only option since nothing else seemed to work. I'm 25 years old , pre-surgery weight 258 and I'm one week post op. I'm not extremely hungry but I have been having serious cravings for food that I generally never eat? Has anyone else had these cravings? I'm just so worried that ill eat things again that are not healthy craving hot dogs and burgers :-( idk but after having this surgery I am realizing the relationship that I have with food is so unhealthy... May…

My first visit was a seminar in March, which you have to go to before even getting your first appointment with the surgeon, then I had my official visit with the surgeon three weeks later. I am now at the end of all the pre-op requirements; EKG, upper GI, 6 week lifestyle change course, two support groups, blood work, psych exam, and sleep study. I meet with the Director of surgery on June 25th for final sign off and then about a week later I meet with the surgeon, get my surgery date, submit to insurance and wait for approval. I am thankful for all the pre-op requirements because it has made me 100% ready. I am hoping for a July surgery date.

I posted this under another topic but am placing it here since I am a newbie and want to share my story. I am 56. I was with my former employer for 22 years and hoped to someday retire from the company as I was very happy with them. I was then laid off (along with hundreds of others) when they decided to relocate the corporate office. I was out of work and looked very hard for a job for a year. I would get calls for interviews and the phone screens would go very well. But when I went in, I would literally see their expressions change as I am 100 pounds overweight (although I dress professionally, am well-groomed, have great teeth, good people skills, etc... So I'm not a…
