Follow A Sleever From Day 1 to 1 Year

Hi Everyone,

I am starting my journey and I figured I would write about it thinking it will be nice one day to look back and see how far I've come. Yesterday was Day 1 of my 2 week pre-op liquid diet. Let's just say it was rough. I can't lie, I really wanted to eat something. I was supposed to have 4 shakes, and I only had 3. I did have some broth (added some unflavored Protein powder) in between and I had one string cheese. I know, it's not liquid but I was literally starving and figured based on other per-op diets, it was the best choice as it was protein. Anyway, I know today I will definitely have all 4 Protein drinks and see if that helps me. Surprisingly, I am not as hungry as I thought I would be but I do feel week and I am sure that withdrawing from all the carbs is contributing to that. Lucky for me, I was off yesterday and was able to lie down when I was tired.

What brought me here was that I had a lap-band put in May, 2005 at 230 pounds. I lost about 40 pounds over time but was never able to go further with the band. I ended up pregnant and gained all the weight back. I tried to use my band but ended up with such bad reflux that I would end up waking up in the night choking on acid. That happened about 3 times and I knew, it was three times too many. My band was deflated and I was told that I would have to have my band taken out and wait a few months to have another band or a sleeve. I went to. Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia and got a second opinion. My doctor is now doing all of this in one procedure as well as repairing my hernia on March 3, 2014.

Today, I am 1.7 pounds lighter and as crazy as it sounds, I feel lighter. My starting weight was 227 and now is 225.3. I am looking forward to being thinner but more importantly healthier. Thanks for sharing my journey with me!

I didn't sleep good until after about 3 days. I had a problem with the pain meds messing up my sleep. So, I just stayed on Tylenol and writhing about 2 days, I started feeling normal. Now, I sleep through the night with no problem. Hope you feel better soon!

Exactly two weeks post-op today. Down 8.3 since surgery. Total including 2 wk pre-op 17.2. Today I start soft and mushy foods and I can't wait! I'm not hungry, just want to chew.

Hi, Jerziegirl

How are you feeling? Just wondered...

Hi,

I'm feeling really good! Back to work full time and been so busy. Haven't really lost any weight this week but only drinking like 16 oz of water & I think that's why. Going to try to get my 64 oz in today and see if that breaks the stall. :)

Glad to hear you are doing well and back to work but I gotta spank you about not getting enough water. It's critical not just for your weight loss but for your well-being. Take two or three big water bottles with you to work and wherever you go. Dehydration is a danger always for us sleevers but especially in the early stage of healing.

Hi! I am a Jersey Girl too!!! I had the lap band done in June of 2012. My starting weight was 317lbs. I lost 100lbs in 8 1/2 months. I became very sick and had to have the band revised in March of 2013. My weight the day of revision was 216. Since the revision band was larger than the original mr Dr could never get it to work again. I am currently 265 lbs and am having the sleeve done on April 30th. I LOVE reading your journey and wish you all the best.

I know...I'm trying to get all the water in now. I drank more yesterday and I'm still at a stall. So

disappointing!

You'll be so much happier with the sleeve after a week of recovery. I just wish I didn't have this stall. It's so frustrating!

1 month post op.....

I LOVE my sleeve! I'm so glad I did this! Even though I had a stall for almost 2 weeks that I finally broke this week, I feel amazing!!!! So far, I'm down 20.5 pounds! Yesterday marked one month. I know if I didn't have my sleeve, I would still be sluggish, 20.5 pounds heavier and not fitting into my clothes better! Best decision ever!!!!

Congratulations!!!! Does the 20.5 lbs include your pre-op weight loss? My surgery is may 6 and I've lost 13 so far. I'm wondering what I will be able to lose before my sisters wedding on Aug 9th.

Congrats to both of you! Yes, it includes my pre-op diet as well. I'm down 20.5 total. Looking forward to 30 pounds next!!

Hi Jerziegirl

My surgery is on 4/23 and I've lost only 5lbs so far so I'm a little nervous about that. Were you weighed in the morning of your surgery when you checked in at the hospital? I wasn't given an amount to lost, I was just told to do the pre op diet but I've seen ppl lose so much weight and I'm sitting at 5lbs... :/

Hi,

I lost 8 pounds pre op and I'm not sure if they weighed me in the hospital or not cause I really don't remember that. It looks like you had your surgery yesterday so keep us posted. 5 pounds is great! I'm down 25 now. It's slow but I'm not drinking enough water and I'm not exercising. I know when I step that up starting this weekend, I'll be really happy! :)

Jersy girl too Thanks for shareing. Waiting for or to open up today's my day big concern will i loose lost 1 ld preop
