Hello everyone! I know I need o get on some kind of BC for after my surgery but I'm unsure on which to get. The dietitian recommended getting an IUD because sometimes after surgery your body will absorb medications differently than before. I don't know much about an IUD but my main concern is weight gain or stalling postop. Does anyone have any experience they'd be willing to share? Also, if I do get the IUD, should I get it before my surgery or shortly after?

I'm almost 3 weeks post sleeve. My recovery seems to be good in that I'm already eating solids and they don't feel any different than soups or purees. The problem is I can literally eat two bites of something before it becomes painful. I'm chewing lots and eating so slowly that I have to reheat every meal but I go from really really hungry before eating, straight to so full I feel like I might burst and I have to sit still for almost an hour. It feels like the food is stuck in my chest almost, and when it reaches my stomach it's just like waves of pain. This even happens with soup. I'm not struggling to drink my water and I'm getting about 1.5-2 litres a day. My mai…

Hello, So, I had bariatric surgery in late August and since November, I've been stalled in my weight loss at roughly 130 kg. Nothing I do seems to work. I've been keeping meticulous tabs on my water and nutritional intake, I've been working out every day, I've had gallbladder surgery (so I can't even have fatty foods without getting sick), my surgeon put my on phentermine and I still haven't been able to break this stall. Does anyone know how I can break this stall? I've been trying everything and so far, nothing seems to work.

This is going to seem stupid, but I'm going to ask it anyway. How do you poop when you're on a liquid diet? I'm VERY regular and quite satisfied when it comes to my BM habits (sorry if TMI, but I've got it down to an art after years of dealing with IBS) and the idea of having to go to work all plugged up or with raging runs doesn't exactly appeal to me. Do things normalize after surgery and get nice and regular again?

Ok, so I know it’s ridiculously early for me to ask this question since my surgery is May 10th. BUT, has anyone had plastics after surgery? If so, how long did you wait? What did you have? I have a big belly now, so I KNOW there’s going to be skin that has to get removed later. And I’ve heard lots of women talking about the need to have their breasts done. I’m a crazy planner (yes, I plan years ahead of time! Lol) so I’m just seeing what other people out there have done. HW: 311 CW: 260 SW: We’ll see on May 10!

I’m two years out and have been nauseous after everything I eat or drink. Even water. I’ve talked to a few people who is post op more than me, and they’ve been saying I’d be really ill if it was serious. I just get paranoid with any issue related to the digestive tract since surgery. I will say, it’s that time of the month and usually I get nauseous and headache couple days prior until I get my period, this month I didn’t and am now too nauseous. No pain or fever or throwing up. No chance of being preggo either Anyone have any suggestions?

I got my surgery on the 16th, and I am about in puréed foods. I am doing well on everything and I don’t eat anything bad, but every night for the past few nights I have been feeling sick like I am going to throw up. Is it because maybe I’m not getting enough water or protein? Or something else? I hate feeling like this. Some guidance would be appreciated!

I had gastric bypass on April 11th 2018, one week ago tomorrow. Surgery went well, the only pain I had after was due to the drain. After my drain was removed on Friday before I went home, I felt great and have ever since. Aside from being slightly sore around the incisions, I barely feel like i had surgery. I'm walking (except for the first couple days, because the weather decided to be winter again), drinking plenty. I'm drinking water, zero calorie/sugar free drinks, and sugar free popsicles. And slowly working up to 3-4 protein shakes per day by my 2 week check up visit, as instructed. I'm a bit frustrated because I haven't been dropping weight like a lot of peop…

Physically since I had cancer last year I still have side effects from chemo and radiation but even that is getting better a lot faster. I have more energy walk 10,000 steps and the most unbelievable thing EVER i sleep 8-10 hours. Since I was 15 I've only slept 5 hours exactly like i had some internal alarm. Relationship with spouse same awesome supportive, sex 3-5 times a week. Socially ummmmm this is the sh*t that gets me I screamed my surgery from the rooftops because I didn't want my …

Hey all, new member here! I have been stalking the forums for a while, but once i had my surgery i made sure to join. I have 4 days post op had my surgery Monday the 23rd, my main issues right now are. 1- Not sleeping at night, maybe in 2-3hrs blocks with 2-3hrs awake 2-Not losing 1 pound so far, I know this is probably very common since i have so few days out. 3-Losing all energy by the afternoon and sleeping the whole day away...which i think circles back to my 1st issue. I am doing my best to get my fluids in, i gulped too big today and had the hiccups for a good while, takes me a bit to drink all my proteins which i assume is normal. Doing my…

One of the things that was stressed during my pre-op classes was the need to get to a place eventually when we are only eating when hungry, and stopping when full. We were told that we might not get the hunger signals post op, but we should definitely stop eating when we are full. I very rarely feel like eating. I don't just mean that I don't get very hungry, but I have a full feeling that puts me off from food. I make sure I eat purees at least once or twice a day, but I've only down more than that once or twice. How do you balance that direction to stop eating when you're full, with the direction to eat 3-5 times per day?

Hey I am nine and a half months out from surgery. I have lost a lot of weight but I feel like I'm going to start not eating right again. Can anyone offer any suggestion on how do fight an "urge" to eat unhealthy. What can I do to stay on the correct path. I want to continue losing weight and I know what I have to do, but sometimes I do not eat the right things. Then I just feel really guilty.

I'm pre-op. I take a lot of Advil and Tylenol for reoccurring headaches and I'm worried after reading this can cause complications after surgery. The doctor has never been able to pinpoint my headaches, between sinus inflammation, high BP, etc. but hopefully headaches decrease with weight loss. Do any folks post-op have experience with taking NSAIDs regularly post-op? Thanks!

Hello! I'm getting sleeved on May 14th. Starting the pre-op diet today (don't need to do it, but I want to). I'm expecting to lose at least 10-15 pounds until operation day, which will put me at a BMI around 38-39. What can be expected as far as weigh loss goes at that BMI? (per month). I would like to know your personal experience, if you started at about that BMI (I've read the guidelines, I want the real stuff!) Is it realistic to think that I could lose all my excess weigh in a year (from 225 ish to 140 ish). I plan on being really strict with my eating Thanks!

I know everyone’s body is different and loses R different rates. However I’m one week post op as of today and I’m so frustrated that I’m only down one pound. Fluids and protein have not been that much of a problem. With the restriction I just assumed I would have lost by now. Hell, I lost more weight,8 pounds, on my 1 week pre op liquid diet than post op. WITW!!

My VSGsurgery is set for 5/2/18, and I’ve gone from totally freaking out for the first few days after it was scheduled (just a week ago, so it’s coming up quick!), to being calmer, with moments of fretting and pushing it out of my mind. I’m afraid of the surgery, and that is the first big step, then when I think about how life will change it scares me too! POST- surgery friends, tell me how it’s gone for you? Your life is better, RIGHT? The sacrifices are worth it, right? What would you have wanted to hear when you were in my shoes? Thank you!

Hi there! I am currently 3 ½ weeks out from vsg surgery. I'm going to a big party next week for cinco de mayo/Easter (weird combo, I know - but we didnt see each other on Easter!). I want to bring an appetizer or side that fits with one of those themes that I will be able to eat. I will still be on purees, and I'd like to bring something that isn't spicy. Any ideas?

I had surgery 4/9/18. Almost 3 weeks post op. Surgeon started me on pureed last week. I’ve had cottage cheese, tuna, avocado.. and sometimes the food stays down & the other times I throw it right up. I’m scared something is wrong. I hate this [emoji30] I’m only eating an ounce to an ounce and a half at a time. Very slowly. I eat one meal, wait several hours before I eat again. I dont know what else to do. Scared to eat at this point. Help!?

Hi everyone. I've loved having this here as a resource I think I'm on it 10 times a day So thanks everyone! I'm now 11 days post sleeve and I've been eating pureed soup, starting with thin and strained and now fairly thick but still blended, and protein shakes with no problem and feel like I could eat solids for sure. My dietician just sent me my diet sheet for the next 3 days and to my great joy it has boiled chicken and mashed potato. I've been so hungry since the op I'm really excited to eat some solid food! My question is that it seems soon compared to everyone else from what I'm reading online and that concerns me a bit. Did anyone else begin that phase …

Hey Everyone, I’m 5 weeks post-op, down 35 pounds and feeling pretty good. I’m exercising regularly and cleared to eat all foods. My only problem is my blood pressure has spiked up. I never had high blood pressure before surgery and now it’s 150/99. My surgeons office said that wouldn’t have anything to do with surgery and I already made an appt with my primary for this evening. Just wondering if anyone has experienced this?

Okay I am 11 month post-op my gastric sleeve. I am not sure if this is related or not, but any comments would be of great help. I recently developed a GI bleed. My surgeon is going to repeat the EGD he doesn't want to repeat the colonoscopy because I just had that done in January and everything was fine. I have centralized abdominal pain as well, so as anyone else had or have this problem?

Hello, First time posting, hoping this isn't too obvious a question. 3 weeks post op today and things are going pretty well I think, but my body's usual signals are new and I/''m still getting used to them. I almost never feel hungry. In situations where I should feel hungry, my stomach will be noisy or feel like there's gas in it, or I'll feel nauseous (which of course makes me not want to eat stuff). I'm getting in about 90g protein per day and doing well with water, just wondering if all of this is par for the course? I was never a snacker, but I'm trying to keep it so I eat something every 2-3 hours. Happy to join such a positive group, thanks for ha…

I am 7 days post op and I still have not had a bowel movement. I am still on full liquids only (water, Ice Chips, Crystal Light & Sugar free ice pops are all I can tolerate). I’ve been drinking smooth move tea because i haven’t been eager to take any oral laxatives. Should I be concerned? Or is this okay since I’m only drinking liquids????

So I was sleeved on 4/19. Tomorrow I will be one week post op and everything is going pretty smooth so far, other than some discomfort when drinking too fast or too big of sips. My only issue is some swelling and soreness under my left breast on my stomach. My stomach sticks out a bit farther on that side which is weird. Is this normal? My first post op appointment is Friday but I’m kind of concerned...

So I’m 6 months post op and have lost 70 since surgery and 132 since the start of program. My question is how much food are ppl eating 6 months out I try to manage 2 good meals a day and maybe a snack trying to keep my calories under 1600 a day. Are you suppose to measure out why you eat my weight or calories. A typical meal for me is amour 6 oz of boneless chicken breast seasoned and cooked with a little water. 1/2-3/4 of white rice and like a half cup of peas, corn or carrots. But I did notice if I put all that on a scale it weighs about 12 oz.

I'm new. Still checking all the boxes to apply for insurance. I've done all my weight loss / NUT consults, psych, and cardio. I'm just waiting on my thyroid test so we can apply for insurance. I'm going for gastric bypass. I'm worrying whether I'll have problems with doing it laparoscopic. I've had 3 c/sections and most concerning is the umbilical hernia I had to have repaired after my last pregnancy. In the multiple episodes of Dr. Now and online research I hear about adhesions. It's an easy decision to have the surgery laparoscopically. However getting cut completely open makes me think twice. I have had 3 c-sections, so it's not like I haven't been cut open. …

Hey everyone, This is my first post on the forum. Looking to see if anyone has had a similar experience to mine. I had my VSG operation on 4/17, spent one night in the hospital and was home the next day. Side note: I also had a hiatal hernia repair and my gallbladder removed. Waking up after surgery was a bit shocking at the amount of gas pain I felt, but like everyone has mentioned on here, walking really helped alleviate it quickly. I've had the usual pain in the incision left of my belly button where my stomach was removed, so it's been a bit difficult bending and getting up/down without my husband's assistance, but nothing major. I've also had some difficulty swa…

Hi I had a gastric sleeve done in August last year. Initially I went down 3 stone very quickly then I slowly lost another stone. I'm stable now and have actually put on about 3 lbs this month. I've been wondering if constipation is a common problem or if its something that anyone else has experienced. if anyone can give me any advice I struggle with fruit and vegetables in general since surgery. I am worried this could be a problem with me eventually stretching my sleeve and regaining the weight which I really don't want to do. The hospital I went to was Luton in the UK but I haven't got another appointment for another 2 months. Any one have …

Aside from you know living longer and being healthier and all that good stuff I’m sure we all have little things we have to look forward to. For example I would like to be able to go to theme parks again. I remember the last time clear as Day. July 2011 I went to Six Flags Great Adventures with my friends and brother. It was early in the day and I was on line for the Superman ride and I remember being next and trying to get on and the seat wouldn’t click twice & the guy had to tell me to get off. It was one of the worst feelings ever & ive never been to a park since. So as I chip away to my goal I’m looking forward to not being worried about if I fit or not. So wh…

I had my surgery on April 12th and everything went well. I had a hiatal hernia which was fixed during the operation. I am home and still dealing with the gas pains in my left upper quadrant and wondering what else I can do besides walk. The pain gets so bad sometimes I feel that maybe there is something wrong. I also would like to know about the calorie intake. I drink one Premier Protein Shake a day for the 160 calories and 30 grams of protein and I also consume a protein-rich cream chicken soup from the HMR program. So I am getting in at least 35 grams of protein a day plus as much water as I can drink. When I chart it today in the bariatric app I noticed that my calori…
