What do you do while other people eat at restaurants? I went out to dinner with my parents and everyone kept accusing me of being sad while they were eating. I wasn't sad. I was uncomfortable and feeling awkward because I ate my two tablespoons of refried beans and was done. I don't really want to play on my phone but, that might be my only option?

It went awesome, the office is so so great. It's so new to be talking with doctors, people in general, who know that I don't eat too much or think I'm lazy but know that my body isn't functioning as it's supposed to. It's really refreshing and I'm really optimistic about the future. She did say that my estimated surgery date would be the beginning of October, my husband gets home from deployment the end of October during our daughter's first birthday, so fingers crossed!

Is it unethical to do those after surgery lmao. I mean, it's almost certain if you follow the diet regime and workout you'll lose weight, almost 100%, but most, but is is bad karma to do that? I didn't do it yet, obviously and I probably won't, but 100 dollars a month at losing 60 lbs over 12 months is a winning total of 3000, haha. Seems like cheating and if they'll even let you do it, it seems unethical and like karma will get you. Kinda interested to see if anybody has done it after surgery.

I'm 6 days post op.First day with no pain meds!!!!! I went number 2 today after giving myself an enema and it ended up with me feeling flush, having to take breaks, and feeling weak. I would lay down between having the urge to go. It was exhausting. I was literally naked and toweling my face to combat the flush feeling. At some point, I just napped and woke up 5 hours later. I got up only to find that my left foot was asleep and I almost broke my big toe as I got up from my nap and my foot started buckiing beneath me. It was nothing short of a nightmare. I had been doing soooo good. I just felt so bloated and backed up that I broke down and gave myself an enema. Has an…

Hello! I am 4.5 days post-op, and tonight I noticed some tiny red bumps all over my belly and some on the sides of my belly. I swear they weren’t there this morning. Could this be related to the surgery, anesthesia, meds, or iodine they prep you with? I did notice the bumps seem to be in almost the exact location the orange-y iodine stuff was. I sort of want to nip this in the bud right now with some Benadryl... is that ok to take 4 days post-op? Thanks for any info!

So, my problem is I’m scared to have vsg because I’ve googled too much. Now I’m scared. I’m scared to DIE during surgery or after! I’ve read that people have heart attacks during surgery. I’m starting to back out before I even get started ??♀️

I was sleeved 2-6 and followed preop thru post op good plan to the T. I’ve only eaten foods that are Clean and on plan, and only when I’m hungry. Until this weekend. My sons bday party yesterday, I had tiny piece of ice cream cake(4 bites?) and a half slice of Pizza. Then went to a friends house today and had 1 small slice of pizza for dinner(i was starving). I was full and stopped. But now I’m dealing with the “OMG, here we go again” thoughts. Previously, I’m able to sustain a diet for a few months, then it falls apart. Thus far, I’ve found eating appropriately with my sleeve pretty easy. But I have this underlying fear that it won’t last!(therapy tomorrow lol) is it ok…

Today was my first post op appointment. My surgery was on April 25 and I'm feeling pretty good. My highest BMI was 41 and now its 37. My current weight is 230... which means eight pounds down since surgery. Overall I'm happy and can't wait to continue this journey. HW: 256 SW: 238(4/25/18) CW: ? GW: 165

Hi guys! I am curious if anyone else has a similar experience or may have some advice. I was sleeved 11/7/17 and other than a minor stricture 3 weeks post op, it has been really easy. I deal with moderate heart burn every day that I manage with Prilosec and tums. For the past few months every time I eat I feel pressure in my throat like my food is coming back up. It lasts for about an hour or two. While it’s not painful it’s uncomfortable. I’ve found myself skipping meals when I just don’t feel like dealing with it. I’ve tried to problem solve on my own and I’m stuck. I chew thoroughly, take small bites and eat slowly. The regurgitation feeling comes no matter what I e…

Greetings, Guess I’m looking for encouragement. I’m constantly feeling nauseous. Take 4 mg of ondansatron every 6 hours and omeprozol daily. Getting enough fluids, but can’t do the Protein. Doing lots of walking, too. Any ideas? When will the nausea get better? Thanks!

Hi all, 11 days post op and this sucks tbh I isolate myself to avoid my family and food. When did your feeling of being bloated go away? I get up and walk and take gas x daily along with a stool softener. I'm a hot mess because i can't get the required amount of fluids and protein. I walk so slow and tire easily. I can't sleep because i tend to sleep on my sides which i can't do right now so it is messing with my mind. Then i cheated by trying chicken and egg to my luck it did not make me feel sick but idk how people have done this. Work in progress.

Today was my 4th day post op and I have been doing excellent! However today was the first family dinner we had and it was a real wake up call for how hard this is truly going to be. While everyone was having tacos, I’m drinking protein water. [emoji45] I’m happy that I finally got my sleeve but it is so bittersweet, because I did not realize how huge food is in our lives. But I made it through! And I’ve lost 2 pounds this week! And I’m thinner than I have been since 2010. Cheers to a new beginning. [emoji173]️

Hi! This might seem like a ridiculous question. When they have you walk the halls after surgery, to help relieve gas and whatnot, do you just pass wind the whole time walking around?? How does this work? Will the post op floor just be people trailing IV poles and farting? I’m concerned.

Everyone I am about 4 days post-op and I am just now getting home. Now that I'm home I realize that my support system really isn't that support of of the surgery and what it takes to help me heal. I'm home with my mom (I'm 23) and she makes everything I need sound like chore for her. No one is paying attention to smells them might bother me or even checking on me to make sure I'm okay. I'm pretty much on my own. I just want to feel support.

How do I ask this? I have been trying to diet without luck...3 months of less than 1000 cal and 1 hour of hard labor a day without a loss. Doctor said I was starving, so I went up to 1800 cal for 6 months- nothing! All of my doctors are now routing for me to get a sleeve. So I am just researching the pre-op for a sleeve and one website said post-op is 2 weeks NO calories. ? HERE'S THE ? So those of you on the pre-op liquid diet, do they recommend how many calories or just how many bottles of the shakes?

Okay sleevers I'm still pre-op and I'd like to know how good YOU are at not drinking anything while you eat. This is one post surgery rule I'm not sure I can manage in the entirety even if I come close. I have always been very thirsty while eating. It doesn't matter how much I drink before I eat, my throat gets dry while I eat and then I must stop eating until I can drink or I get nauseous. I'm super super super worried I won't be able to stick to this rule. :\ I know the REASON behind it -- not washing food out of your pouch .. which makes perfect sense.. but a lot of people talk about it like it is a choice.. TBH I'm not sure it's truly a choice for everyone.. I kno…

I've been all over this forum and can't find anything about how you feel emotionally after surgery. I felt great at the hospital. Now that I'm home, I feel like my hormones are out of whack! I cried when I asked my mother for some Mirilax. I cried when I asked the pharmacist to fill my prescription. It's crazy! Does anyone else have or has had these baby blues? It will all be worth it. Don't give up!

Hello all, This is my first post on this site, even though I have been looking at the forums for a while. I recently had my Gastric Bypass and I've been feeling horrible since. I've had so much nausea and heartburn that I can't take any of my meds. All I want is a soothing cup (aka sip now honestly) of Ginger ale or something to settle my stomach a bit. I've been drinking gatorade and flavoured water but I can't get regular water down, it just comes right up. Anyone been through this? Anyone have any tips to help the dry mouth and horrible feelings that come with this? I've been talking to my surgeon's team but they don't know whats going on since there's no blockage…

Hey guys, I’m new to this site and after snooping around for answers I decided it was time to join. So I had the GS on April 26th. Day one (242 lbs) was no different than day five- I hurt. I have had a stabbing pain near my left incision. A pain that feels like a hot knife is stabbing me in the gut. It hurt so badly to sit on the toilet or in a chair, and the getting up part was the worst. I couldn’t pull my pants up or hardly wipe my rear with tissue without crying out in pain. My husband had to help me out of bed and into bed and forget getting in and out of the car. Sleeping is pretty miserable as I’m a left side sleeper, and all I can do is sleep on my back pro…

I’ve posted about how GREAT I felt after surgery, and I really did! Until I got home. I’ve been trying walk, drink slowly, take meds regularly, but I’m in pain. Last night I threw up for the first time which surprisingly wasn’t too bad, pain wise, and it showed me how small my stomach must be. I’m looking for insight in the pain, when did you turn the corner and feel better? Any advice? Thanks HW 289 SW 262 VSG 5/2/18 Kaiser, Ontario - Dr. Chin

Hi All, Has anyone taken milk of magnesia to regulate bowel movements? If so, how long did it take before it worked its magic? The bottle says to take it before bedtime, but I'm wondering, I'm our stomachs are smaller now, does it work faster? I don't want to have to wake up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. Thanks!!

I wanted to tell you all what I experienced, because I know how helpful it was to view others stories pre-op. I was sleeved May1st. I had to check in at 6:15 am. Surgery was at 7:30. I can remember they gave me an anesthesia cocktail as I was leaving my pre-op room and I don't even remember actually being wheeled in to the surgery room. The procedure lasted 30 minutes and my surgeon said it was boring and went without a hitch. I woke up in the post op recovery room in pain and nauseous and they drugged me up. I made it up to my room about 10:00am. I immediately went to the restroom and walked around. They had warned me that I might need a catheter, but I didn't get one, b…

I had surgery on 3/12, and all my incisions are healed with the exception of a tiny opening in my main incision (on the end).I went to urgent care and they said it was not infected and they put some steristrips on it. The opening was only half of a cm, and yet, it refuses to heal! That was maybe 1-2 weeks ago. I've been keeping a bandaid on it as instructed. While there is still no sign of infection, there continues to be drainage. Has this happened to anyone else? Will it ever heal?

I'm almost 3 weeks post sleeve. My recovery seems to be good in that I'm already eating solids and they don't feel any different than soups or purees. The problem is I can literally eat two bites of something before it becomes painful. I'm chewing lots and eating so slowly that I have to reheat every meal but I go from really really hungry before eating, straight to so full I feel like I might burst and I have to sit still for almost an hour. It feels like the food is stuck in my chest almost, and when it reaches my stomach it's just like waves of pain. This even happens with soup. I'm not struggling to drink my water and I'm getting about 1.5-2 litres a day. My mai…

Does bariatric surgery enhance weight loss through respiration? I have experienced what I thought was unusually weight loss pre-op when I could only conclude that I had to have breathed it out. I hadn't paid much attention to it. With a larger diet pre-op, there was more variability of food weight and volume, and BM's occurred more frequently (mow, infrequent and scary). But now 1.5 months post op, I am on a routine, I know how much water and meals I get, and I am very good at measuring it (better than pre-op even). And I am definitely losing weight by respiration, no BM's, no sweating, any my urine volume does not come even close to what I drink. I am losing weight betwe…

Hi Everyone, I'm one month out of surgery, and I just don't want to eat anything. I'm not really nauseous or sick, I'm just not hungry and I don't want to eat. I'm still on a soft diet until Friday, but eating some of the things that have worked for me so far (eggs, tofu, cottage cheese) just doesn't sound appealing. Eating new things sounds a bit scary. I'm getting at least 80g protein a day, but I'm still using the protein shakes at least once and sometimes twice a day to get there. Does this pass? I'm assuming I'll be hungry later, but I feel super ambivalent about eating actual food.

Hi everyone, I am trying to get my 64+oz of fluids, 50+grams of protein, vitamins, and 4-6 small meals a day. It feels like there isn’t enough time in the day to fit all these things in. (Luckily I don’t have to juggle a job too, just being a mom at home). With no fluids 30 minutes before or after a meal and 20+ minutes for the meal I am spending at least 6 hours not sipping. I have moved (per my nutritionist) on to soft solid food. But my tummy still can’t handle more than a few sips of liquids at a time. I can’t handle regular water, so I have been drinking Powerade Zero. I have tried protein drinks, but don’t really like them. Perhaps due to having nothing but them …

I know a lot of us have had the “wow my tail bone hurts” moments post op. Mine has bothered me for a couple months now, but seems to be getting a little better. Recently though I am dealing with a new feeling from my weight loss that is bothering the crap out of me. Every time I ride in a car now I can feel my spine pressing up against the cars seat, and it’s a super uncomfortable feeling. I find myself constantly shifting to try to get the feeling to go away, but it usually doesn’t help. I was driving around the other day squirming in my seat and it got me wondering if I am the only one with this issue as I don’t recall seeing complaints about it in here before.

Soooo... I hate everything on the full liquid diet. I'm not ever hungry but if I were, nothing tastes good. Any recommendations? Jello, yogurt, pudding and popsicles are too sweet. Cream soups are... yuck. I'm allowed grits which are decent. Taste a little weird after surgery. I hate that my taste buds have changed! I didn't believe anyone when they said it could happen. Hello! I’m so nervous about having the surgery because I’m afraid of dying during it. I know that risks are low and it’s a fairly routine surgery for most doctors who do it, but I’m still very nervous. Being 21 and almost 500 pounds I know I NEED to have the surgery and I’m going to have the surgery while I’m home from college this summer. Is there anyone who felt similarly to me pre-op? Or had a similar situation (I.E. high weight or in college). Thank you in advance! [emoji16]

Hi all, It's been a while since I've posted.. I can't believe it, my hunger has come back with a vengeance all of a sudden! I was a miracle case really, I started this journey at 260 and within 5/6 months I'd lost 100 pounds and was at goal of 160. But now.. I've started to gain (only 3 pounds) but it's gaining none the less. People say your tastebuds change after surgery, mine have stayed exactly the same. I can tolerate bread, pasta, rice, fizzy drinks etc. In fact.. everything that's bad for me goes down pretty easy, it's things like protein that I struggle with. Is there a way to reset my sleeve and start over? I miss that feeling of never thinking about food.. I'm ba…
