SLEEVED TODAY- why am I hungry???

Recommended Posts

I expected to possibly not to feel hungry for months... more than pain, or gas pain, my stomach just feels empty and hungry.

Is this normal??

The 3 H's - Head Hunger - Habit and Hormones

You have been sleeved but the only part of you that understands that right now is your stomach.

You still have the habit of eating and your mind still expects certain actions and reactions from you and your hormones are going on one hell of a ride right now.

Try to keep your mind occupied and dont dwell on food. in something between 3 and 14 days you will start to settle down as the surgery heals and your hormone levels find a new normal and your brain gets used to you doing the whole eating thing different. It can be a very traumatic time period if you havent prepared yourself for the mental game ahead of you. Every issue you had or didnt think you had will rise up and mess with your mind. The sleeve does its job but the other 95 percent is mental and how much you struggle with it will decide how happy you are for next 6 months.

The one big S....STARVATION:)

You've been on a starvation diet...you're going to continue to be on one for a while...and starvation causes HUNGER. Actual real bonafide honest to God hunger. Concentration camp hunger. Dying of starvation hunger. Donner pass hunger. Sally Struthers Children in Africa hunger.

Not only have you deprived your body of the calories it lives off of everyday for basic metabolism for a couple of weeks on your presurgical diet.....you have now added the massive caloric demand of needing to do lots of repairs (healing).

Some people don't experience hunger after surgery. Hormones? Nausea? Luck?

Many others experience extreme hunger.

I could have chewed my leg off.

And it's tough...because it's extremely important that you follow your instructions to the letter right now. Just have to take it a day at a time. You'll make it.

After I started eating around 1000 calories a day, I felt a LOT better. I eat about 1200 calories a day now...have no hunger. It gets better.

Hang in there!

Its not ad bad as last post.

If you followed operation procedures, you probably stopped drinking for a while. While you have an IV drip with Water, you are probbaly just very thirsty. The need for water can sometimes be disguised as hunger. I felt extremely dehydrated after the surgery, because one can still not drink to the next day.

Hunger, is actually a part of being human, and a sign that your body is doing what is supposed to do. I understand now that one of the contributing factor to my obesity was that, I hated hunger, I detested it. So I would eat whenever I was hungry. But being hungry is just a sign that your nody is using stored nutrients and energy. You are supposed to be hungry between meals.

You will get hungry, but you will soon learn that you will fill up very fast. The most importan this is to follow you diet instructions afterwards. Your body is going to need Protein, and its the most important part of your meals.

I was sleeved yesterday 5/2/18 at Kaiser West LA. Experiencing gas pains, abdominal pain and some hunger. I think my body is just confused. Started sips of Water today but only made it through 45cc in an hour before I had to stop due to nausea and gas. I am walking but it has only relieved some of it. Good luck to you!

Hi Staci,

I was sleeved on May 2, too! Trying to drink but definitely not getting Protein. The shakes make me sick! Not much pain, but I hate being nauseated. Prior to surgery, I consistently walked 10,000 to 15,000 steps a day, but I’m laying low for awhile and just walking a bit at a time.

Everyone keeps saying that this is the worst time. I hope so.

One day at a time! Hang in there!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
