Struggling Emotionally After Gastric Bypass — Need Reassurance From Others Who’ve Been Here

I’m a few days out from gastric bypass surgery, and I’m struggling more mentally and physically than I expected. I know this is still very early, but I’m feeling scared, overwhelmed, and full of doubt.
Before surgery, I had worries, but I pushed through because I hoped this would be the start of a better life. Since coming home, though, part of me keeps wondering whether I made the wrong decision. I’m in a lot of pain, especially in my side when I try to walk. Breathing feels difficult at times, and I’m being told to walk every hour—but right now, even a short walk can feel impossible.
I’m also having a hard time with protein shakes. They all seem far too sweet, and they make me gag. I’m scared to look at my incisions, and emotionally I feel strange in my own body. I keep thinking I look worse somehow, as though I have done something wrong or damaged myself.
I am still trying. I’m looking for recipes, tips, and anything that might help me get through this journey. But honestly, my mind is in a dark place right now. I feel desperate for reassurance from people who have been here—especially anyone who felt regret, fear, or sadness in those first few days after surgery.
Did it get easier for you? How did you cope with the pain, the emotions, walking, and getting enough protein when shakes made you feel sick?
