So I did great with getting my liquids and protein until yesterday. All of a sudden I couldn’t keep anything down. Not even water. No nausea or feeling like crap. No pains or fever or anything. Well, hiccups. Lots of those. But every time I sipped anything, I would salivate like crazy for 20 minutes and then it popped right back up. It never felt like it got to my stomach; rather it was like it got lodged in my upper chest. When it came back up, there were no stomach contractions or stomach acid. So here I am, in the ER. I’m going to be getting some IV fluids and a CT scan. My DO here thinks it’s most likely esophageal swelling where the esophagus meets the new pouch, a…

Good morning ladies and gents! It is hard to believe I am on my second day post op! I am thrilled to say that I am doing well. No complications have cropped up yet. In fact if the wounds on my belly didn't hurt a tad, I would swear I didn't even have the surgery! I have had no trouble getting fluids or protein down. In fact its 6:46am and I've already logged 20oz of fluid and 10g of protein today. In fact, I was a bit concerned, like many others, who could consume more than they thought. Yesterday, my first "meal" consisted of 1 cup of chicken broth that I was able to consume in its entirety of 45 minutes, and I truly felt it was my own obsessive pacing that all…

I just made another batch overnight as had almost used all my freezer supply: (I do a triple batch of the recipe below in my HUGE stock pot and simmer it overnight for 12-18 hours). This is the basis of all the soups I've been enjoying post op. And I just read the other night that gelatin is also good for skin elasticity! Chicken Stock 8 cups (2L) Water (top up if needed while simmering) 2 Tbsp white or apple cider vinegar (to help draw minerals out from the bones) 1.5kg chicken frames (can also include bones and skin from cooked chicken wings/drumsticks/marylands, andif you can include some chicken feet you will get a higher Gelatin content) …

Many times I can get very, very hungry after drinking Water and while drinking water. I admit that my meal/snack times are not ideal and can be erratic. All water I drink is near ice cold or cold and from thermos that starts out with ice if that makes a difference. Is this normal, or is it time to eat a meal/snack? Usually I'll have a morsel of food if not near a meal/snack time and it does a good job or satisfying the hunger, and provides immediate relief. And is this hunger mental or physical? I really can't tell what is mental or physical hunger. Sent from my XT1609 using BariatricPal mobile app

Greetings! Looking for a bit of encouragement! The scale dropped 7 lbs during the first week post-op. Since the 8th day post-op, the scale hasn’t moved an ounce! I’m getting all 60 grams of protein and all my fluids and walking 10,000 steps a day. Averaging 800 calories from sugar-free Greek yogurt, tuna with low fat mayo, chicken breast, and low-fat cream soups. I feel great, by the way. HW: 225 SW: 214 (5/2/2018) CW: 207 GW: 145

VSG done5/10/18. 4 days out and I’m hungry. No, it’s not head hunger. I’m getting my fluids and protein. I do have to eat slowly, but it’s not a problem for me to finish off 10oz of broth in 30 minutes. I didn’t have problems with fluids from the moment I woke up and I was walking within an hour of being moved from recovery to my room. My plan says to increase calories and protein by 100/10g per day until I hit 800 calories and 75-90g of protein. On day three I had 400 calories and 40 protein. I see my surgeon on Tuesday morning and plan to ask about this, but in the meantime, is it normal to be hungry so soon? I just see that most people struggle with fluid, protein,…

Today is my 5th day post surgery. I spent most of it in the Emergency Room because of severe constipation/stool impaction. I am a Registered Nurse and tried everything that I could think of to help me but nothing worked. Finally I was in such severe pain and in tears that I had my daughter take me to the ER. I was so embarrassed and desperate for help. Finally, after a Soap Suds Enema and retaining it for an eternity I was able to get relief. I am so tired and weak from today and so scared that this will happen again. I have never had constipation before. I have been taking the Colace twice daily as ordered. I added Dulcolax yesterday. Praying that this is a one time thin…

Hi fellow sleevers! My surgery went very well indeed. I was 2nd on the list so didn't have to wait all day and had surgery at 11.30am. My husband was more scared than I was, he was in tears bless him. Came round from surgery and had terrible pain from the gas they blow you up with but my lovely daughter came soon after and burped me like a baby by rubbing my back which eased it quite a bit. I was sick quite a few times to start with as they gave me some peppermint water to ease the gas and I took it too quickly so it all came back up, gross I know. I was very scared to actually drink anything as I could feel it going down and gurgling, strange sensation plus I wa…

So I have officially hit my Week 3 stall. I was losing about a pound a day and the last 5 days, nothing, nada, zilch... How do I break thru the dreaded week 3 stall? I'm still on pureed foods. I get in more than my daily amount of water. I meet my protein standards and take my vitamins. What else can I do?

Hi, I am 10 days post op from bypass. I can often feel something in my stomach. It’s not pain or gas or even discomfort. Almost like an uneasy feeling or just knowing something is in there. It’s very hard to explain. It’s most often after I have just eaten, and usually goes away when I drink water (so I feel it for at least 30 minutes at a time). Sometimes it is just random however. Wondering if anyone else has had this, and if it goes away? Even though it’s not pain, I don’t like it. Thanks!

I'm having a huge issue with air in my stomach after I eat. Consistently. Every meal. It's extremely painful. I know I'm not overeating. I struggle having the motivation to eat at all, in general, and every time after I DO eat I spend an hour struggling to burp up all the air I can hear rumbling around inside of me. Is this an issue that anyone else has had? What did you do for it? I'm kind of desperate. Eating is tough enough already, and between this and my acid reflux it makes me not want to eat at all.

Had my procedure (RNY) on December 14, 2017, will officially be 5 months po next week. I have lost a total of 74 lbs. Completely ecstatic to finally make it to 1nderland. The last time I was under 200 lbs was when my daughter was 10 months old, she's now 8 going on 9.

Hi, 5 weeks post gastric sleeve. I'm having 1 -2 bouts of diarrhea per week. Can't determine a dietary cause. Still on mostly pureed foods. One time caused by cottage cheese, but then tried it 3 weeks later and did fine. Once was a soft egg, but other eggs were ok. This makes going out concerning, having no clue when it might strike and when it does, it's extreme. Ideas? Suggestions? I've started keeping a log of what I've eaten just prior. In general, very positive post surgical experience and 22 lbs lost.

Hi all, I’m 3 months post VSG and my doc said to try to stop drinking protein shakes. I was doing fine with my one premier a day, getting the rest of my protein from food. Now, I can’t seem to get the minimum 60g of protein into my day without the shake. What does everyone eat and how often to get enough protein in? HW: 221 SW: 209 CW: 168 Sleeved 2/13/18

Hey there. I was sleeved on Tuesday of last week (May 8th). I have done my fair share of research and reading but didn't realize just how hard the recovery would be. The gas pains are unbearable, Gas-X does nothing, and it hurts when I eat, drink, move or sit. I am walking as much as I can but due to me feeling sick after eatinf and drinking I barely can get around the apartment more than once. I can't stomach the protein shakes, they make me sick and frustrated. I get about 16-32 ounces of water in daily. The incisions hurt on and off but the pain seems to be tapering off. I just feel miserable and it feels like every good step I take, something sets me back 3 places. I …

Had my surgery 5/3, so tomorrow is a week. I have had no pain and an easy recovery. The only thing I really notice is I'm ready for bed by 630pm instead of my normal 11ish. My only real problem is getting my protein in. I can't stand the protein water. It's like drinking soap. My doctor said I could do the protein shakes mixed with water 50/50. I'm struggling to get one in. I'm really trying to get my water/water+protein in but it's a true struggle. I'm hoping tomorrow I get passed to purees and maybe that'll help me get better proteins for the day. And hopefully once I do better with my protein I won't be so darn tired by early evening. Tips or advice appreciated …

I’m almost three weeks post op and I am having the hardest time sleeping. It takes me forever to fall asleep and then I keep waking up in the mid of the night- wide awake. I’ve been taking 10mg of Ambien, but even then it doesn’t work for me like it did prior to surgery. Is anyone else having sleep issues and does anyone know why??? I know I’m having pain and have a hard time getting comfortable, but that can’t be the entire reason for this erratic sleep pattern.

I had my VSG on 5/9/18 and I feel great physically. I was walking right away and have no problem with drinking. My doctor advances all his patients to stage 2: purée diet right in the hospital, so I am eating some soft foods, However, eating anything feels like such a chore. As a result I am struggling with getting my protein in. Eating is unenjoyable to me and a struggle. I guess this is food aversion? I have never felt this way about food before and just wanna know approximately when this stage ends lol!

so im 2 weeks out, had a scrambled egg for lunch today as I'm now allowed soft/puree Can eat a full scrambled egg, no problem! Is that strange? I see posts about people who can only eat 1/3 or 1/2 Bit concerned about how I'm not feeling any restrictions with a whole scrambled egg (scrambled with about 60ml of milk) took me maybe 20mins to eat and at the end I don't feel...anything. Not full, not hungry, nothing! Cheers

I had VSG on 5/10 and I’m at the same weight I was at my surgery 2 days ago. I haven’t had any nausea at all and I only take Tylenol for incision pain. I’m a little worried that everything has been so easy. I was able to lay on my sides immediately after surgery. I did have terrible gas pain the first 36 hours after surgery, but since I walked the halls the entire day and night the day I was in the hospital, it wasn’t very bad once I got home. Yesterday afternoon and evening I took a couple doses of gas x and now I feel great minus the incisions. I’ve never had surgery before, so can I assume that the fact I’m the same weight after 2 days is because of the 3 IV’s I got? …

So, I've contacted my Dr's office but they have to give me a call back. While I'm waiting, I'm just curious how you knew you had an ulcer? Did it happen over night or gradually? Out of all the pain I've had, I haven't had any with eating or drinking. I've been able to do both just fine until this morning. Now every sip or bite I take is very painful. Idk if it's an ulcer or something else, so I would love some feedback of other's experience. Thanks!

Sleeved March 20th 2018 I've had stalls and sometimea minor gains day to day. But today, a solid 3 lbs. I am 318 now, was 353 at surgery. Yesterday I was on my diet plan, exceeding fat intake a little and had a soupy shrimp meal near bedtime. During day I was urinating more often than usual. Also, only got 3.5 hours sleep. Would these factors contribute to retaining almost all the food and water I took in? Sent from my XT1609 using BariatricPal mobile app

I work in an emergency department as a Paramedic, I am currently also in nursing school. Just an FYI for those of you whose Dr. did not advise you or you forgot.... Do Not Take NSAIDS (Ibuprofen, Motrin, Aleve, Naproxen, Aspirin). They can cause perforation at the staple/suture sites because these sites are weaker in integrity than the rest of the stomach tissue. I have seen so many people come to the ER for complaint of abdominal pain who say their Dr. never informed them of this.

I saw my Dr yesterday and I am scheduled for surgery Dec 7th. Got all the approvals etc and I'm good to go. I am scared and excited, but mostly scared. Oh, do I really want to do this??? 48 hour clear liquid diet before surgery and that's all. One thing that's really bothering me is he said I will have a drain tube in for almost a week! He says it will lay beside the sleeve to make sure there is not leak? He's never had a leak. I guess whatever drainage comes out you can tell if you have a leak??? What? Anyone ever heard of having a drain tube in for so long? I can't take a shower and he said he will take it out at my post-op appt that is 6 days after surgery. Can…

I have 2 oz souflé cups premade but am eating slowly with a baby spoon. I dont want to overdo it and eat 2oz at one setting.....im petrified of this being so easy that i end up doing something wrong. Had my RNY 03/28/18. All went well and was recovering well until I started having a lot of pain in near my upper left incision. I got a heating pad and just dealt with the pain believing it was gas. It felt like a baseball was underneath my skin. I didn’t have a fever but I was tired. Again, I thought the fatigue was normal. I decided to call Dr and he said head to ER. It turned out to be an infected abscess. I am glad i listened to my gut and went to ER. So lesson is, if you don’t feel right, don’t be afraid to ask Dr.
