My running gait is a little "off" for my left foot, causing the left foot to land just a little left of center. I am dominant in my right hand and generally put my right foot forward first. My right side is definitely stronger and more stable then my left. This is placing a strain on the outside of my left lower leg that feels like bursitis. It really sort of bugs me for the first 15 minutes and then diminishes until it is gone by 30 minutes. By 1 hour, it was as if I never had it. As for speed, I start out at around 6 mph and work my way up to 7.5 mph by the end I have not analyzed why my left foot is not landing in the center of foot, as my right foot does. Maybe …

So I was doing my WOD yesterday with the PT and she had me swing 45 lb kettle ball for 25 minutes, with 25 meter kettle ball carry every 10 swings (rest it on biceps while fast walking length of gym). I got 300 swings and my arms were on fire afterwards. On fire!!!! Should we be wearing hard hats before this type of workout? Lol! I always am concerned it is going to drop on my head and split my skull or it is going to keep going into the window or wall. What do some of you kettle ball swingers do to eliminate these worries? I don't want to be a first statistic of death by kettle swing. I get the same concerns when lifting anything heavy ( bench, squat, etc) that it is …

Hello I was sleeved April 8th..still have some discomfort on one of my incisions..I've attempted to work out on two occasions and was in pain the next day. All I did was power walk on the treadmill. My question is when did y'all start working out? What did you start off with? I need to start the gym ASAP so that I can see better results

So... I am 1.5 months away from being sleeved and the doctor wants me to drink 3 or 4 pre mixed Protein shakes (Premier Protein) a day so I can shed 20 lbs before surgery. 4 Protein Shakes equals 640 calories. I workout 4 days per week and planned on adding an additional day of cardio. I had a body composition done and I know I need to eat around 1900 calories to burn fat. I have lost 27 lbs in a little less than 2 months on my own. So I can safely say that I know my body. Today I've consumed 3 Protein shake and 2 liters of Water. I went to the gym and worked with my trainer. I was so weak I couldn't complete my session. I ended up coming home and making a turkey burger a…

So I am 7 weeks post op and about 5 days ago I finally started loosing weight again. I think I'm a slow looser to begin with because I have only lost about 30lbs. Since surgery... With that said I have notices some loose skin in my arms, waist and thighs!!! So my wonderful husband said I need to weight train to build the muscle and tighten up... I have been working out for the past few days and low and behold I'm back to a stall after only loosing 4lb...... Is it from weight training??? I'm not getting all my water in at times but I usually get around 50 oz. a day and all my protein.

So I had a trial class which was super fun on Monday. Went in today and the instructor told me to consider coming to his "instructional boxing" classes cuz I suck. He singled me out and it was EMBARRASSING. I don't do well in group setting because I hate being told that I'm not doing great. Should I go back? The class is in one hour. Or should I just bail?

I've seen several posts about wearing shapewear around your midsection to help shape your waist and possibly help with sagging skin. What type of shapewear are you wearing and how do you keep it from ruling up under your clothes *sigh*?

Saw this today while at the gym. TV was set on the local AM news show. Basically a neat way to exercise, when you are traveling or can't get to the gym or just want to mix up your routine. Get a deck of cards.... Assign an exercise to each suit For example: Hearts = burpees Clubs = v ups Diamonds = squat jumps Spades = push ups (or what ever exercise you want to do) Flip over a card and do the exercise 9 of hearts = 9 burpees 3 of clubs = 3 v ups and so on keep turning over the cards as soon as you finish one exercise. Try and do as many cards as you can.

Okay, I had done my julian michaels DVD in the morning of the same day so that is part of my excuse, but it was HARD! I loved it. Found out that it works in a cycle and I joined on the hardest day of the month - so I was doing the "modified" version of most of the exercises. The next class is starting a new cycle and I am excited to see what progress I make in the next 30 days. My thing is I want more upper body strength. I can do knee pushups pretty well now but I about die trying to do them from my toes. A woman in that class was doing them one handed - can you imagine - a woman being able to do that??? Anyway, it is fun to find something new and mix it up. I got …

I know I'm unlikely to find anyone in my area on here, but thought I would take a stab at it. Had a lifting buddy that has moved to another state, so I could use a lifting partner in the Statesville, NC vacinity if there is anyone on here in this area. My routine varies and I'm pretty flexible in regards to my lifting schedule as long as I can get a few of my basic compound lifts in each week. Also could use a running partner about twice a week. If there's anyone interested, let me know. Thanks!

Does anyone know if there is a preference in MFP to NOT give you caloric credit for exercise? I have it set for my 1,000 calories per day, but when I enter my exercise for the day, it adds those calories into my daily allotment. I don't want that......I just want to stick to my 1,000 no matter what I do.

Exercise and I do not have a good history together. Somehow I ended up passing basic training for the Marine Corps by the skin of my teeth, But after I was in the field I ended up in remedial because I couldn't pass the run. I hate exercise I have a bad knee, and I'm trying to figure out how to motivate myself to exercise. I'd like to think I could eventually like it , but I don't know about that. I need to just find out how to push myself and make it a routine. Does anyone have a similar story? Or maybe some suggestions. Some encouraging words anything would be greatly appreciated. I'm not banded yet that happens May 28th.

I currently lift and train hard 2x a week @ cross fit with PT (T, Th) which leaves me a little sore the following day for when I do cardio @ home. My cardio is currently M, W, F and S and consists of running for 30 min to 1 hour depending on routine (5k, 10k , HIIT). I am starting to wonder if I should back off on the cardio some and add more strength training days. My goal is to find a good healthy balance of weight lifting and cardio to remain fit with a nice athletic build. I do not want all the cardio from running to eat away at my muscle gains. Before I started to lift, running really leaned out my upper body, essentially eating a lot of my lean muscle. I was at…

The other day I ate a small piece of chocolate cake, got mad at myself and worked out with one of my walk at home DVDs. I was able to do 2 miles and could have kept going whereas I normally am only able to do one. What the heck? I've always been stronger in the am. Perhaps I need to switch to later in the day? I so love waking before the kids wake, and getting it done amd not having to worry about it later. And plus, if I wait I'm more likely to not do it later too. Excuses am what not. So. Is there a way to get more strength in the morning? Maybe a Protein drink or something to sip while exercising? I can't/won't get up earlier than 5:45 to eat something and wait…

I had my first official visit back at the gym today, and worked with one of the trainers. I have to say that I have now been reminded of some muscles I haven't thought of in a year or more. Umm, ouch. I have to say it's a good ouch, though. I think we pushed hard enough, but didn't go over the edge into "Trish will not be moving for the next 24 hours, thanks - all muscles are on strike". And now I have my fitness plan set up for the next month. It's fairly wimpy, but hey, I am fairly wimpy Not for long, though... I *WILL* be in decent shape when I have surgery.

Hello all. I am two weeks post-op (surgery was 4/8). Ib went to see my doctor today for post-op but forgot to ask him about my restrictions. I called back right after i left and spoke with the nurse who said I'm still on a 10lb restriction essentially and that the main thing is to not lift very much at all. I know she did not ask my doctor, she just gave me an idea. I see my doctor in two weeks for my first fill so I will really confirm with him then, but in the mean time I am on a restriction this week and going back to work as a cardiac nurse with NO restrictions in 6 days. ... didn't seem to make sense. I was wondering IN GENERAL what were your activity restrictio…

I did it. I joined a gym again. I also made a gym date with one of my good friends for next Monday morning. I am going into the gym tomorrow for a fitness evaluation and a planning session for my workouts with one of the trainers (whom I will see monthly going forward). Baby steps - my initial goal is to get in twice a week - more is bonus, but it takes the pressure off a bit while I get back into the routine. But get back into it, I will. I want to be as strong as I can be before surgery, and I suspect that building up my muscle mass now won't hurt my weight loss post-surgery, either! The tier I joined has access to most of the group classes, trainer sessions o…

I've recently added music to my exercise routine, and obviously, the tempo make a huge difference in how fast I move. Some of my favorites are a few of the old Motown tunes, Fleetwood Mac, (giving my age away ) Stronger (Kelly Clarkston), Forget you (Cee Lo Green), and Eye of the Tiger (survivor), and a few others to round out an eclectic mix. I'd love to hear your favorite workout tunes!

Has anyone participated in a "Walk from Obesity" walk? I just discovered the website and notice there are no events in or within resonable driving distance to Virginia for Spring of 2013 but I would like to participate in one when there is one close by. I was just wondering if it is like other walks, like breast cancer and such.

you are almost 75% finished with your outbound leg of your ride, and you look down at your computer and it says you are doing 17 MPH and you notice that there isn't any wind in your face So you do what any self respecting roadie would do, you tack on an extra 4 miles to before turning around because after all, you don't really have a choice but to make it back to your car 90 minutes, 23 miles, 16 Mph out, 14 Mph back, 1200 Calories (And too tight to eat more than a smoothie)

This is just a little thread for everyone to share their hardest workout post sleeve in order to inspire others and to share ideas. For example, my hardest workout is cross fit WOD just completed today: 1. 50 deadlifts (200 lbs) 2. 2 mile run 3. 30 bench (150 lb) 4. 50 pull ups (really hard for me) 5. 2 mile run 6. 100 burpies(almost killed me. Lol) I swear my PT was channeling Jillian Michaels. I am going to hurt tomorrow. No pain no gain!!!

This is not my first go at p90x I did it last April as well before my sleeve. I can never do it day after day I always have to rest two days after Plyometrics and kenpo that kills my knee "trashed acl " so starting to think I should replace my plyo and kenpo with the cardio x it does not bug my knee at all. I'm just so pig headed about doing it lol. I use weights on my home gym instead of the bands at 115lbs. I can't find a band past 75lb and that's to easy so had to use the home gym pull bar. I use 15 lb dumbbells not yet upto 20lbs getting there . So does anyone have a thought on this or has done it? Sent from my iPhone using VST

I had my one month appointment today (technically 5 weeks) and got cleared for all exercise so I went and joined the local boxing club. I felt SO good afterward. Now tomorrow may be a different story lol I just hate to walk for exercise because I find it incredibly boring. So glad I can do something now where I actually feel like I'm doing something. I had to just walk in place during a little bit of it but for the most part, I did pretty well. Got a free set of boxing gloves too win win!

That for me this week is indeed the question. I am 10 weeks post op and last week started a workout regimen. I am doing Jillian Michaels 30 day shred routine and mixing in a few other things to keep it interesting. I did level 1 four days last week, did an Ab routine followed by some core strength training and cardio for a fifth day of exercise. Soooo, this morning was my weigh in and much to my surprise I'd gained 0.7lbs. Now I know to expect a little something when starting to exercise but I was expecting less of a loss, not a gain. My short term goal is to lose at least 4lbs per week for the next two months, I was already averaging 2.7-3lbs without any vigorous exerc…
