Hey folks, I've got a question for you. I know everyone is different, but I'm just wondering for you, how many calories a day do you eat? I'm 5'9" and 255 lbs. I started working out about a month ago, doing cardio. I've added weights in the past couple of weeks. I'm currently working out about 4x a week, and building up to 5x. Now, MFP suggests that I eat a net of around 1400 calories a day after excercise to lose 2lbs a week, but that seems higher than what most WLS patients are encouraged to eat. I've been eating about 1300 calories a day, and not eating the calories I burn through excercise, and I wonder if I'm shooting myself in the foot by not eating more. Is it …

Hi my name is Agnes and had lap band 2 yrs on 3/9/11. To date I have lost 78.4 lbs, as far as exercise i get into then stop or things come up like my excuses are can't exercise (walking) its too hot or cold but i am paying for the ymca (so really no excuse there) i even paid a trainer at the y just to keep me accountable. My other excuse is can t exercise since I have homework (working on my mba graduate in nov or dec or this year).. I am now paying another trainer at another gym (weight/strength ) training just so i know I am accountable. However it would be great to have a work out buddy to do zumba, Water aerobics walking etc..

I got this little spiky massage peanut a couple weeks ago for triggering pressure points on my feet, to increase mobility in my upper body and to massage my shoulders and neck. It is a great tool and so cheap (about 9 dollars on Amazon). http://www.amazon.com/Power-Systems-75040-Massage-Peanut/dp/B0002U1U0M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1368986907&sr=8-1&keywords=Massage+peanut As a reflexology tool, a few minutes of rolling your feet over it increases circulation to your feet, ankles and legs. It also stimulates various internal anatomical systems like the lymphatic system, the renal system, the endocrine system and so on. It can be used on the hands too for …

Hey everyone! I've recently started doing pole fitness as exercise. Thing is, I have basically no upper body strength. And to do this awesomely, I need to build some. I have a gym membership and I lift weights. But I'm looking for something new to try. Any suggestions?

I'm still pre-op but I was wondering if there will be any type of restrictions with weight lifts? I know most say 6 weeks so your body has time to heal but I was curious if you lift heavy weights after the 6 week mark and on (body building) could you tear open your incision? My ultimate goal is to do women's weight lifting competition but I don't ever want to do anything that could cause injury! Thanks in advance!

Good morning! I am wondering if any banders have tried the It Works! wraps to help lose fat and inches. I am almost 7 months post surgery and have lost nearly 60 pounds. I am looking into the It Works! wraps as an additional tool to help me meet my goals. If you know anything about using these with a band, please share!

So I'm just venting but I'm increasingly annoyed whenever I see children at the Gym. They're generally loud. The younger ones treat equipment like toys and the teenagers reek of judgment and condescension. Intellectually I tell myself it's good that they're being active and developing good habits but my emotional self is reminded of a childhood of shame and ridicule at the hands of their predecessors. As I said I'm just venting but am trying to share more.

I could of done a lot more and was able to hold a conversation all the way through when we were on our way back I felt so good, I felt like a could have jogged part of the trail! That's all Update: I should say that my husband wore a 40 pound pack because he's getting ready to hike slot canyon next week and we just got home he's dropping me off so he can go to the gym and work his upper body... Do you just have to exercise to lose weight? I was planning on starting to walk after my surgery. But I've been on a high protein low carb diet before my surgery, and I use MFP to keep track of my calories and keep in mind I'm not exercising. I'm suppose to be able to eat 1800 and some calories, seems like a lot to me , but that's what it said. I'm not loosing anything. I thought it was calories in calories out kind of thing. Is it simply a matter of exercise or is it to many calories or both? And yes I hate exercise and have a bad knee, but do plan I doing it I know I have to. But I was just curious why I am not losing something. I don't want this to be what ha…

Wow I think my dietitian was right. I can't be getting stoned. The munchies can really ruin a whole day of good eating. Nothing really horrible this time. Some jerky and nuts. But I know I wasn't really hungry. I think my pot smoking days will be very far and few in the future. Well for awhile anyway.

I've been lurking on here for a few years now and decided to finally post. I have quite a few questions and I hope someone can assist! I've lost 100Lbs. I'm in fantastic shape now. I run 10K's multiple times per week. I'm very active. I eat really well. Do I need to take any supplements or Vitamins or other bariatric nutritionals ? I drink a big veg/fruit blend for Breakfast each morn before I run. Should I be doing this after I run ? Also, what's all this talk about Protein shakes and powder ? Should I be adding protein into my morning drink ? This whole new healthy lifestyle is really new to me. It's really amazing. Feel like i was given a second chance…

So, there was an event today that my job sponsored (outdoors). They had a zipline & I was so excited to try it!! :-) I got to the front of the line & as I was being harnessed, suddenly both myself & the man realized that the harness would NOT fit around my waist to be buckled....NOT EVEN CLOSE!!!! I was not not embarassed...I was just motivated. Imma hit it harder...even harder than I am now....and I'm hitting it hard. It's on my list now to try another zipline & next time around, darnit...I will fit, lol!!!! Any similar exeriences?? & just to think...I felt sooooo small this morning with my "getting too big" jeans on!

On off days or days where I can't fit exercise in, I get depressed. My mind just can't wake up and everything seems wrong. Funny that a few weeks ago I posted about how I don't like exercise. Now I think I'm addicted to it. Wicked! I LOVE exercise now and I want to spread the message. If you're feeling depressed, seriously, try it for a few weeks. If you're a beginner, start with Leslie's walk at home dvd's. I do them almost daily along with other things. It should pep you up!

I was a caffeine junky before surgery. I took that opportunity to get off it completely and have been good for several months. I just started supplementing my training with a pre-work out drink (black powder). I only use it in the early morning as I hit the gym at 6am. I now find myself waking up in the middle of the night wide awake and not being able to go back to sleep for several hours. Not enjoying it but love the serious pump, power and focus from this stuff!!!

Alright fellow lifters. What kind of splits are you seeing the most gains in strength/muscle (2 different animals I know, but just throwing it out there)? I know some swear by splitting up the body...others use compound movements. 3/4/5 day splits for each target. What have you all had luck with? I started compound + supersets on a 4 day split at first but never fully healed and weights did not change much. Now, I lift intensely only 1 day/week splitting the lower and upper body....it's a looooooong workout. But, I've seen great improvements in strength and my weight loss has been steady. One thing I've hypothesized is a slowing of healing due to the inability to e…

I have been walking 6 days a week, Monday will be two weeks. I had planed on adding another block ( I walk one block now) after two weeks. My husband walks with me and thought that was a pretty good time frame, but when I'm walking about half way through my legs, the front of my chins(sp?) and around my ankles just start hurting, and was worse today. It is a burning feeling I think it is muscular. Is it the weight? Should I just push through it or should I wait to add the other block when it quits hurting? I weigh 273 and 5'3 I am not losing yet I have not been banded (May 28th) is the weight to much on my ankles for what I'm doing? I could do more otherwise. Thank…

Before I had my surgery, my last push to try to get my weight under control was to purchase a Life Fitness Elliptical machine and I promised my hubby, I would use it...this time. The $1400 treadmill that sat in the corner, was eventually donated with oh about 3 miles on it. At the time we purchased the elliptical, I was able to work it for 2 minutes. That was it, I gave up. Fast forward to surgery...came home, started with just walking around my house, literally on day 3. Got on the Elliptical, NEVER looked back. Never have allowed myself to give up, this is my health and I must continue. So 4 days a week on average for about 15 months now, I plugged along. I am …

The Easy Way to Start Exercise After Lap Band Surgery A Guide in 10 Simple Steps If you’ve never exercised or it’s been a long time since you got up and moving, it can be really intimidating. And if you’re starting out significantly overweight, it can be even more challenging. You may get out of breath easily and find it hard to move around. Intimidated? Scared? It’s okay. Don’t be discouraged. You too can become a regular exerciser. And, although you might find this hard to believe, you’ll come to enjoy it more quickly than you might think. Will the Lap Band limit activity? If you’ve come to this post because you’re about to have or have just had Lap Band surgery,…

I have not sleeved yet, so I do not have first have knowledge or experience with it. However, in my former life (ten-plus-years-ago-when-I-was-in-shape), I was an aerobics instructor and weight trainer. I learned a lot about the body and how it functions when it comes to fat burning and building muscle mass. That being said, I want to address those of you who are experiencing stalls. Stalls in the beginning of the sleeve process are usually due to your body re-supplying its Water and insulin stores that were utilized when your body went into shock from the liquid diet. When stores are utilized, your body sheds all of the weight that those stores consisted of in your bod…

Hey Crossfitters, I have a question that maybe you can help me with. There is a groupon deal right now for Crossfit classes. Its 10 classes for $29 or 15 classes for $39. I have always thought Crossfit was right up my husband's alley. Even though he is overweight he is very active (loves skiing, road biking, mtn biking, spin class, sports, working out etc...), food is just his weakness. He is having surgery June 1st. I was thinking about buying this deal for him, and he has until Nov 2nd to use it, but is Crossfit too hard that soon after surgery? After the 2 month "don't lift anything over 20lbs" rule, he'd have August, Sept, and Oct, and even Nov (you probably just hav…

Hi all How long have your surgeons indications been for beginning semi contact sports again after surgery? I love playing basketball and don't want to let my team down being out for 8-10 weeks. It may be easier to schedule surgery for the Christmas off season. I also play indoor cricket (for those in the US, imagine having to pitch a baseball and bat repeatedly for 9 innings inside an hour), and wouldn't like to do any damage from that? Any insights? B
