Hi all. Looking for some advice. I was doing some Zumba the last week and had my knee pop and give out on me. It was very painful and it took me a good day to be able to walk on it again. Currently, it is swollen but not tender, only a bit sore and stiff feeling. I can't extend it all the way though. I have rested the past couple of days and started to work-out again. That same knee just feels very unstable and like it is giving out. Again, not painful (I have a very high pain tolerance) but it still worries me. Hate to go waste money at my primary care doctor's office but any thoughts on what might be up?? I finally have my weight loss moving again and can't aff…

Well, I took a slow meander (a quick 20+min) on my new tricycle, on one of the several paths by my house, and I'm EXHAUSTED! My wife got worried when I came in from the ride, cause I was panting like a dog in heat, and my legs were a little wobbly... I hear people say it gets easy, I just don't believe it.

Tonight I went to thd gym intending to do a routine workout (35 min elliptical & some resistance machines) when one of the girls who works there kept badgering me about Zumba class. So I was all 'I'll think about it while Im on the elliptical.' I didn't want to go because I was scared I wouldnt be able to finish the whole hour. After my 35 min on the elliptical were up I grudgingly went to look at the Zumba class. Not only did I look, I participated and FINISHED the class!!! Wouldnt have been able to do that 55 + pounds ago!!! Loving my sleeve!!!!

OK...well....thought I was doin a good thing went for a bike ride with a dear friend and my kids. There is a trail near our houses and it is so peaceful and nice....so we road out 2 miles and knowing we have another 2 miles back to the truck. Well we planned on a 4 mile ride, but this was a bit much on a beach cruiser with a 4 year old attached to the back of my bike in one of those carts....so the last mile was a real struggle for me (dont let me lie the last 2 miles) but at the end there is a Water fountain so I get there and I am so overheated and thirsty I jugged and jugged...guess what happened next..You got it PUKE! Note to self: dont take a drink you dont know an…

After I finished my C25k run today at the gym I was looking for something else to do as a cool down. I walked by the dumb bell rack, and saw a 60lb dumb bell. I wrestled that beast off the bottom of the rack and went over to the scale. I stepped up and with it I weighed 257. The owner of the gym whose also a good friend walked by and saw what I was doing, he asked me if that was what I weighed before. No, I weighed 3 lbs more than this. Gotta a high five for it....felt good! Damn that thing was heavy too...

Lol I changed my heart rate monitor info to reflect the small amount of weight I've lost since initially setting it maybe three weeks ago. Now when I work out, I'm burning about 20 calories less/workout so I'm having to do about 25% more to burn what I was burning. Does this seem right? I suppose it could need a new battery. This makes me really wonder how people woh lower bmi's than myself are burning over 1,000 calories, several days a week. Mind= boggled. I really push myself last the point that I want to quit, so these people must be dragging ass. Right? Where are you guys!? How do you do it!?

I ran my first 5K race on Saturday! I have been running since last summer and have ran 3.1 miles before but this is the first time I ran in a race. I didn't do it to see how fast I could run the race, I did it just because I have always wanted to be able to say I ran a 5K. My time was 37:40 so I am not fast by any means, but I did it!! My husband ran with me at my pace. He could have ran much faster but he wanted to do it with me the whole way. He has always been a runner so now we have something we can do together! It was an amazing experience and I am so happy I did it. I will continue to run races here and there and eventually get to a faster pace. I love my sleeve…

Hello all, I'm still pre-op, no date yet, but I'm doing whatever I can to maximize the chance of success with a sleeve. Part of my deal with myself (and my wife), when I chose this path, was to train my body and play competitive sports again. As my forum name suggests, I was a collegiate hockey player. I played in leagues all through my 30s as the weight increased. Then an injury took me off the ice and the weight just snowballed. I really miss playing, and the camraderie of being on a team. So I've decided to work with a trainer for the first time ever. I figure it'll get me in the gym on a schedule, and I thrive on routine. I have a target weight for when I can…

I'm back to training for a 5k, a Half marathon and thinking of braving my 2nd full marathon. In between my running I do the "Insanity" program. It's an awesome program and you get toned fast. What gets to me is, I can feel all the muscle tone and the 6pack on my abs BUT thank you loose skin-you hide my success all too well! One day my evil friend I will have u removed for life! Anyone else training for any distance marathons?

My friend has assured me she as for fun and exercise, and doesn't care if they win or lose... But I still feel like I'll be a weak link. I was sleeved 3 1/2 months ago and am down 70 pounds. With that being said... I still want to lost 110 pounds.... Anyone else play?

How soon after surgery can I go bowling? I'm three weeks post op. I remember being told not to lift more than 15 pounds (I don't use a 15 ball) but don't remember for what timeframe. My incisions have healed and I don't have any pain. I've gone through all material and didn't find anything helpful. My next post op visit is in a month and a half. Obviously I can call my surgeon but wanted to see what you all think. BTW...I'm exercising for 45 minutes a day without issue.

Hi there. I'm exactly five weeks post-op today yaaay! I had a very difficult 2-3 weeks healing process but at 4 weeks I started to feel much better and now I feel pretty good. Im 5'2" and started my journey at 248 lbs on April 1st. I lost 10 lbs during the pre-op diet period and I was sleeved on May 1st. By June 1st I had lost 11 more lbs. I have lost a total of 21 lbs in two months. I can't say I'm not disappointed especially reading how do many people are losing so so so much faster :-( I try to remain positive and keep in mind that I'm losing and not gaining! Unfortunately Ive become hungry..not head hunger which I was prepared for tnx to this forum..but real hunger! …

There are mixed opinions out there questioning if one should train, workout or exercise when affected with a cold or flu. Besides feeling generally cruddy, are there medical reasons why a person should cool it until better? I read that training can cause the immune system to become compromised even more after being compromised from cold bacteria. There is other information that discusses a raise in body heat will kill off the bacteria. I have been dealing with a mild cld all week and it has become stronger today (DayQuil is my friend). I was able to cross fit on Tuesday and did fine, but today I cancelled as not wanting this cold to drag on any longer. I hate missing a tr…

I've been extremely dedicated to my workouts and diet again and I think I'm FINALLY off that darn plateau I've been on for the last several months. I'm down another 9 lbs. but I'm so afraid it's going to yo-yo right back on. Totally revamped my diet and counting every single think I eat, drink, etc. Best part of all of this is that I've found more inner strength and I'm pushing myself harder because I know I can do it. I ran for the first time today since high school. So weird to think that it's been THAT long since I ran! Best part is that I could actually do it, sad part is that I had forgotten how to run! So anyway, that is all. I just realized I hadn't posted for a wh…

Ellipticals ass!!! Please share in my excitement!! Last time I used my elliptical 5 months ago I could not even do 3 minutes at 2.5 MPH. I have not gotten on it in so long because I was afraid of it. Lol I started walking 6-7 nights a week (I'm in my 3rd or 4th week) and tonight I didn't feel like I got enough time in walking at the track so I decided to give my elliptical a whirl. I was so happy! I was able to go 4.5 mph for 12 straight minutes and only stopped because I had to get my kids in bed! It felt AMAZING!! I am so pumped and can't wait to get back on it!!!

So I recently joined the Y and have my daughter enrolled in swimming classes. Watching her swim today reminded me of how much I LOVED to swim (was on the swim team and played Water polo in high school). The thing is I have hair issues. Anyone who is black and who has spent an hour in a chair getting a fresh press knows why water is a no go lol. In high school my hair was braided so swimming was no issue but now my hair is way too long for braids and I can't press/flat irion my hair every day or I will fry it. My goal post-op is to swim 3-4 days per week and then throw some yoga in the mix... Where are all my other black swimmers? What do you ladies do?

Hi everyone. Since the tittle is exercise I wanna mention how important is to exercise. I havent done my surgery yet but hope to be soon...maybe next month. Today I went to a meeting at WLS center at Newton Wellesley Hospital in Mass..and we spoke about exercise. How important it is not only for ur health but also to keep u motivated. And to those who thinks about cosmetic surgery after WLS, exercise is good because you will burn more fat and create muscle tone. You can tone ur butt, thights, abs and arms. I struggled with weight ever since 15(today am 26). I have always exercised but always was gaining and loosing weight. Now I totally decided to do the WLS. I still exer…

Anyone know of any good exercises to get a flatter tummy? I've been working my butt off at the gym to tighten up my extra skin on my stomach & get rid of my muffin top but Im not having much luck. It's not bad enough to have the extra skin removed but I wanna look good when I have to take my shirt off. Any pointers?

On another thread we have been talking about the benefits/drawbacks to long distance cardio vs short burst and the role in weight loss played by strength training. In that thread it was talked about regular and lengthy run sessions make losing weight more difficult, that long distance running keeps a layer of fat on you, and that for real results you should run faster in short bursts. Then, why are marathoners so string bean skinny? Is it because for the pros, that IS their job and so they do it all day every day, and a sleever may *only* do 10 miles every other day? My workout regime is kinda all over the place right now because I have so many different streams of k…

So, I had a first meeting with a trainer today. She had me do some basic moves and my blood sugar plummeted. I almost passed out. I will be 5 weeks post op on Wednesday. I eat very few carbs, mostly because I don't tolerate them well. Do you guys have any suggestions on slow digesting carbs I can eat early in the day before working out? I don't really like oatmeal very much. Thanks for any help!

I want to start a fitness thread where people who cross fit can post their WOD or ask questions cross fit related. I am a fairly new cross fitter at around 3 months. It does not matter how long you have been cross fitting. Please share your experiences. I will start. As I was riding to work this morning, I passed four or five spots that were at one time the limits of what I could do on my bike before I had to turn around and head back. I was reminded of a conversation I had with my wife last year, we had started walking walking together for 3 miles before work, and after a couple of weeks she asked, "Shouldn't this be getting easier?' My answer was no, if you want 3 miles to be easier, we need to start walking 4. So, we did and after a week of walking 4 together, she remarked that I was right, it was much easier to walk 3 than it had been. So, the question of when does exercise get easier? The short answer is of course, never. Th…

I realized today that finding time to exercise has become second nature to me. I actually look forward to it! No more making excuses about why I can't fit exercise into my busy schedule, no more talking myself out of going to the gym, no more justifying that I don't need to exercise to lose weight. No more reasons why I cannot go, I just go. It hit me as I was leaving the gym this afternoon. I had just spent five hours driving home from a work trip and instead of going home, I stopped off at the gym and got in a good, strong, intense workout. I have been exercising regularly now for about six months but the transformation from "going because I should" to "going bec…

Went for an hour long walk this morning at 6:30. It was 70 degrees and sunny and the route was filled with peonies and lilacs...heavenly scents. Last year I would have been sitting around inside. I'm so grateful right now...so is my dog. He's really reaping the benefits of my new walking regime. Later we'll go to the dog park and walk for about 45 minutes more. Thank you God!

So I started jogging last Thursday on the treadmill at the gym. I did good never thought that day would ever come when I could speed walk! Now I'm up to jogging. Today is attempt at day 3 jogging (gym schedule). I have the energy to do it and I'm doing it. I just get this funky feeling like people are watching me. I look around a few times to see people behind me not paying attention to me and then I go! Lol can anyone relate? I still see the 389lb girl who should never run. And I couldn't get my target heart rate on elliptical anymore. I'm also doing Zumba 3 times a week... Loving it! But I'm in the back of the room and self conscious about people seeing me. Lol. Ug…

Hi losers! I need your help please. I am 2 months post op and don't have any exercise routine. I just want to know where you were at at 2 months and where i should be. I am foreign to the idea of exercise and don't know what is the best for me at the moment. I would like to do something at home. Have some kind of programme to follow. Invorporate walking and cycling and perhaps exercises at home with light dumbbels. What do you auggest? How often and length and all that? Dont want to go the gym as yet. Some tips and pointers i will really appreciate. Thanks!

When did you all begin doing serious ab exercises? I'm 3 months out and tried doing crunches and mountain climbers and my stomach hurts, not like the ab muscles but the same kinda pain I had immediately after surgery. Alright, enough procrastinating...time to go use the gym membership I've been paying for and not using for (mumbled, under my breath) at least two years. Time to stop the mental masturbation about the workout plans I concoct and how good I'll feel and actually go DO!! I can do this, I've done it before and know that the first weeks are tough, but then it gets to the point where it feels weird NOT to exercise. Okay...shoes are on, off I go

I started doing boot camp training a year ago, and I loved it. I couldn't get the food down so that I would lose weight so I added my band as another tool! We warm up sometimes at boot camp by running, which I could never do, so I walked. BUT Friday I was at boot camp and I ran almost a mile without stopping and I did mountain climbers which I always found an excuse to get out of before. So even with my loss of 46 pounds it made a huge difference in what I can do! I have a long way to go to meet my goal, and have stumbled in this journey but I am gonna do this! Off for a bike ride and getting my first fill tomorrow! Excited!

Hi! I am excited to get resistance bands for upper arms and leg exercises. I googled and looked at amazon---and there's way too too many options. Can you guys recommend a good/safe one, and hopefully one that works with a regular door. I'm not handy at all, and would like something simple and strong. I'm only 5" so nothing too long either. Thanks!!!
