Woohoo!!! Ran first lap, ran the straight-aways for 3 1/2 miles, and I walked the last. I feel great! I can't wait until I can run the full four, but I'm getting there. Drinking a recovery shake, I'm going to let that settle, then I'm hitting the weights. #feelingPUMPED

I just started exercising on a regular basis now at 3 1/2 months out. The elliptical shows I burn roughly 400 calories in 45 minutes. Instead of increasing my appetite with exercise, it is suppressing it. I am worried about not getting enough calories in now. Anyone else have this issue?

Hi everyone! I could really use some helpful advice. I'm one year post band, and down 100 pounds! As great as that sounds, I'm having a very very difficult time with the loose skin on my arms. My arms had gotten very very big at the very end of my weight gain, and even with the weight loss I'm still having a hard time losing that flabby skin. I'm getting married in November, and I'm wearing a strapless down, and would hate to have these arms in all of my pictures for eternity. What has anyone done to help tone their arms? Keep in mind, I just broke my wrist in April, I needed to have surgery to fix it, so I'm not allowed to use anything with weights!

I'm looking into buying a fitbit. I'm just not sure which one to get. I like the flex because of the watch style and its less noticeable but the other ones track more. Which one do you guys like? Or do you like another fitness tracker better?

I'm wondering if any of you know what I could do with a pretty bad back. I'm 23 and I think getting back into a routine that I'll start to loose weight again. Besides swimming and walking is there anything else I can do. I can't really be stable walking sometimes, and I've severely sprained my ankle not once but twice. The first one I was laid up for months, and it could of lead to surgery, so I'm not a big fan of walking. I love to swim, but between work, classes, and fitting in appointments, I don't have time to swim, the YMCA has a pool, but by the time I can do it I've missed the open swim.

Hello, I want to run a marathon next year. This seems a daunting task being that I am still approximately 80 pounds over weight. I had surgery on January 30th, 2013 and currently have lost 91 pounds. I am 5'6" and currently weigh 220 pounds. I have entered myself in the color run here in Hawaii which is in November and have slowly started running. I basically run for a minute, walk for a minute etc. until I can't stand it. To all of those out there who have already accomplished this goal or those striving for this goal...how in the world do I start training for this? Should I focus on my weight loss or running? The honolulu marathon I am aiming for is in De…

I am really trying to stay motivated to keep moving. I have been really tired as of late. I just made an appt with my PCP to see if my blood pressure meds are maybe too high for me now and making me super sleepy. It's also been very hot here on Long Island, but I have been OK with the heat and humidity, just really really tired. I pushed through and went to the gym today. Walked for 45 minutes. I wonder if there is anyone out there who might be able to advise a good fitness routine for someone just starting out that doesn't have a whole lot of time to spend in the gym throughout the day. At first I was walking way too fast at 3.0 for my target heart rate, so I have sl…

That WOD's in Crossfit were named after women..my trainer this morning says..we are going to do a Cindy. I just looked at him like he had lost his mind. So he explained they have Girl Names because only a woman can make you feel like that after the workout. I was like wtf sexist! So I did AMRAP of 5 pullups (banded), 10 push ups and 15 squats for 15 minutes..so I don't think it was a full Cindy. He asked me after how I felt..as I laid there in a puddle of my own sweat trying to control my quivering forearms..I said "F CINDY...SHE IS A W*ore!!!" He started laughing and said..I told you so.

OK, so I am one month post op, had my first fill yesterday, am feeling great...but I am worried about having all this sagging skin around my mid section after I loose weight (like a lot of guys, most of my excess weight is my belly). I know once you have the sagging skin, it is pretty much going to be there (barring cosmetic procedures), but can exercise help prevent or reduce the amount of sagging skin? If so what exercise(s) are most helpful.

Hi. I'm 60, 5 months post RNY and I've lost 58 pounds. I did my first 5k in April (walked). I want to run or jog. Badly. But I'm scared to even try. I only go to 2.5 mph on the treadmill. I have really short legs so that is fast for me. I'm short...4'10". Can someone help me figure a way to get over my fear of running? I've seen people fall on treadmills and that scares me. Thanks!

So I stopped loosing about two months about at 285. I did have a stressful move 2000 miles and was eating erratically to deal with stress. I got a membership to the YMCA and in the midwest there are lots of chubby people at the Y so I don't feel alone. I start off with yoga twice a week and then going to the gym to do cardio and muscle building 2-3 times a week as well. And fortunately I did not gain. It is sort of exciting as I haven't really regularly exercised in over 10 years. My goal is to loose 40 pounds by October. My main obstacle is that here I am in the middle of one of the fattest cities in the USA with the most restaurants in the USA. My sister buys l…

Hot yoga is a great exercise for improving mental clarity, elongating muscles, improving (dare I say, perfecting) balance and toning muscle. Notice I did not include calorie burning or weight loss into the list. I had the original perception that doing yoga poses at 105 degrees with increased humidity burns a mad amount of calories (600 or so). Heart rate is soaring, sweat is dripping off skin, yet all the research I have done online indicates that it is only water weight that is being lost. Furthermore, the claim is that sitting in a hot room with sweat pouring off you in buckets does not increase the internal temperature of your body. I found these statements a little h…

The nutritionist at my surgeons office and I were talking some time back (really she was talking and I was just listening, thinking yea right) about me doing some kind of "impact cardio" as she called it, to help with longterm health of bones, etc. I haven't ran in over 20 years,..at Ft. Bliss, TX in 1993 to be exact and I did NOT like it back then. But I see so many people running and hear lots of good health benefits from it. And I read on here from some of the fine folks about how good they feel after running.....Hmmmm, what am I missing out on? I cycle a decent amount now and I feel healthier than I EVER have in my life....could I possibly tolerate running...le…

Actually two questions: 1. If lifting heavy at the box, is it natural to feel a blood rush out of your head at the top of a lift or shortly there afterwards? For example, on my 1 rep max of 310 on deadlift yesterday, I got this wonky "free" high feeling after lifting the max 1 rep. A high i did not even have to pay for. 2. After an intense hard circuit workout this morning at 9 am, my overall sense is weakness and low blood sugar even after drinking a 400 calorie 50 g recovery shake with carbs. Does that mean I need to consume more carb before workout? The recovery shake after the workout did not help, even after 20 minutes, so I consumed two energy squares of 120 ca…

I had my surgery 13 years ago and the biggest disconnect I have noticed is the lack of support as it pertains to working out after gastric bypass. When I first had my surgery, I walked around my office during my breaks but didn't join a gym. The lack of this lifestyle change, and developing some bad eating habits resulted in a regain of 40 lbs during the first ten years. I finally managed to change my eating habits to vegetarian and started working out regularly. I joined the gym and have been a loyal gym rat ever since. I think the thing that kept me away was the insecurity of not knowing how to use the machines and thinking "everybody knows I had surgery!' I finally h…

I don't run, just walk at 3.5 I like it all, but I want faster results, I'm not losing weight now...staying steady and working my ass off!
