i had hoped to have started this by now since I am officially 6 weeks out but have been waylaid by pains and sprains, which brings me to my concern. If you can't get through one of the days they have, what do you do? Do you just go back and do it again the next day until you get it? Sorry if this is a stupid question, my ignorance about it is unblemished, but I am worried that if I get an RA flare-up or something and can't exercise one day, that I will never be able to go through it in the manner in which I am expected to. I also want to get my younger son doing it with me, and since he is only with me 4 days a week, if he skips a day while at the other house, I want…

I never step on my scale, don't like the numbers. Anyway this morning I decided to see how I was doing since my shirts and pants are feeling loose. The first time it showed I had gained 6 pounds, (WHAT) I knew that couldn't be right so I stepped off and zeroed it out and tried again, It now showed I had lost a pound. In all I tried 6 times got 6 different readings with a difference of 7 pounds. I should have stopped at the lowest reading and been happy not confused. I think I need a new scale or new batteries.

I'm about 18 months post op, and loving my new life of health and smaller clothes for SURE. I got down to 180, from a max weight of 288, so 108lbs lost. That's been great, but now, the scale says 194. Yikes. I have been working out like crazy, finished a sprint triathlon and a few mud runs. I was getting SO hungry when I was working out, and I went ahead and ate whatever I wanted to, because it didn't seem to matter. That mostly resulted in afternoon carb loading (goldfish crackers, wheat thins, chips) when the kiddos were napping, and late night sweets. Well, I had an injury from training so hard, and couldn't work out for about 2 months. I kept eating the same way, an…

Ok, I know I keep throwing out variations on this question over time but today needs some input, fast. I have made my mind up with cross fit to do 3 days on and 1 day off approach to give my body a chance to recover in terms of training for next summer. I do not think I can do 6 days a week of training yet (have not tried) and all my research online as well as asking around my box indicates 3 on and 1 off is a good idea. Yesterday's WOD drained me yet again in the evening (did the Joshua). However, this morning I am feeling fairly decent albeit a little sore (nothing like last night). Today WOD is all about running. Fast running. The idea is to push to run fast 1 …

i have a cold and a slight fever should I be attempting to work out still? just wondering because I heard somewhere I think it was from bob on the biggest loser that being sick is your bodys way of telling you to rest... and if I shouldn't work out what does this mean for insanity? do I pick up where I left off or do I restart from the beginning?

Has anyone tried Body for Life or Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle after WLS? They were both good when I was younger and didn't have 115 pounds to lose and I wonder if the concept is goof for after my surgery.

Ok dumb question... I started exercising more and I jadnt really paid attention to how many calories I burned.. My question is if I burn 400-500 calories a day. Do I have to eat those calories ? So if my diet is 800 calories daily I have to eat more??? I am so not into counting all this stuff. Lol Sorry if I sound ignorant.

Any suggestions on what heart rate monitor to buy. I want a very accurate estimated of calories burned during working out. I just did Shaun t focus 25 n my fit but only calculated 125 calories although I am dripping in sweat lol. Saw on a website that that workout burbs 369 calories. So I wanted to track my actual calories burned thanks in advance for your suggestions. Nicole

Hi pre-ops, If you have a Fitbit or buying one, I started a group on Fitbit a year ago and we have slowly been growing. The problem is that fitbit does not have a search feature for groups. So you have to go page by page of groups to find the "Gastric Sleeve" group. Come join us, so we can all stay motivated. Between MyFitnessPal and Fitbit, I stay very motivated. Maybe these tools can help you, too!

Several weeks ago I posted that I cannot exercise because my doctor says to stay off my left foot with the diabetic ulcer. A few people replied with the reasonable suggestion that I try working out at a gym. My health insurance does include Silver Sneakers, but unfortunately because of the distance from house to parking lot, then their parking lot to the Y, it involves walking a total of about 4 blocks. Nope. HOWEVER, I may have just solved my problem. While fooling around online I found reference to DVDs that lead exercises for seated seniors! YIPPPEEE! I ordered one this morning, and should receive it on Friday. I'll let y'all know what I think of it. Although its tar…

I have been doing the couch25K program and let me first say that I am not a runner! Never have been. I am not that person who can get on a treadmill and "forget" after a while that they are running. If anything, the longer I run the more I am aware that I am running. However, yesterday this girl ran 20min straight with no break. HUGE accomplishment in my books!!

so ive been hearing a lot that if you start off walking for say 5 minutes, and then you start to run for 1-3 minutes and then repeat until you reach your goal destination, itll be just as efficient as it would be if you just ran the whole distance. my doctor said as long as i keep my heart rate the same speed then it it beneficial. has anyone done this method??

So yesterday was pointfest (Christian bands playing it was awesome) at cedar point and my college group from church spent 14 hours at cedar point riding coasters and enjoying the bands. Last summer about 8 months before surgery and I could only ride a select few rides. I got on 3-4 rides. Yesterday I got on everything with no problem! Felt so good. Even last year stood in line for 3 hours to ride the magnum and was mortified by having to get off cause the belt would not fit. Welp... Rode it yesterday! Along with everything else. So happy!!!(:(;

My doctor wants me to lose 50lbs in 6 months. I've lost 20lbs since July 16th. If I don't quite lose 50lbs will they say that's not enough? I've been thinking about that a lot lately. I'm not having surgery until Jan or Feb of 2014.

I was sold on the UP but now I have read many comparison reviews and am leaning toward the Flex. Which tracker do you use? What do you love about it and what do you not like? Thanks!!!

Looking for some advice from anyone who has experience with ACL injuries. Early this summer I tore my meniscus and ruptured my ACL. I have had surgery to repair my meniscus but my first doctor was a jerk and wanted to wait and see about the ACL. I have now gone for a second opinion on my ruptured ACL. The first doctor only saw a fat 39 year old come in and blew me off, no PT or anything. My second doctor has me doing 4 weeks of PT and then re-evaluate for surgery to repair/replace the ACL. My concern is that I my husband and I spent a lot of money for this surgery and I have a lot of weight yet to loose in this journey. Before my injury I was training for a 5K wit…

I have to vent about the gym. I can.not.stand the: super tan 50 year old ladies (I am 47 by the way) who park their convertible BMW in the corner of the park lot so they don't get scratched wearing full make up when they show up at the gym with matching headbands sneakers and outfits who come into class and complain about the instructors and the routines and how the old instructor was so much better UGGGGHHHHHH! We are here to stinkin' workout, get or maintain health and get stronger. Please, I can't stand it. Thank you, now back to your regularly scheduled programs. And I hope I didn't offend anybody.

I know all plans are different but I'm curious if anyone has an insurance plan that helps out with gym memberships? I have BCBSNC, and can't look through my plan right now. It makes sense to me that plans would cover (either fully or partially) memberships but I've never thought to check.

Just curious if anyone else gets port pain when running? It is a sharp, shooting twinge around my port/bellybutton area (My port is just to the left of my bellybutton). It goes away pretty quickly, I'm just curious if anyone else has had it and if it is normal. I was banded June 26th 2013 and have had a couple of fills so far. Thanks!

I was sleeved on March 25, 2013. So far I have lost 45 pounds. I am very happy with it so far and hope to lose another 55 to reach my ultimate goal. I went to see my surgeon for my three month check up. He was happy with my loss but very disappointed in my exercise. I told him I was going for 60-90 minute walks about 4-5 times a week. He said, "Walking is activity, it is not exercise. You need to get your heart rate up higher." Ok, fine. He is right, I know. But ever since he said that I feel as if walking just isn't good enough and I gave up completely doing it. Now I do nothing. Its like if its not good enough then why even try. I feel guilty and ashamed of mysel…

So I did another cross fit session today where one of the segments was Tabata WOD (8 rounds: 20 seconds on, 10 second break): Pull-ups: 45 Push-ups: 102 Sit-ups: 122 Air squats: 150 I RXd the Tabata WOD with a good total rep count, but still am struggling to get my pull-up numbers up. For those who are really into muscle anatomy, what muscles are allowing me to kill push-ups and which muscles are causing a much faster failure rate on pull-ups. After a while, I cannot lift my body above arms at 90 degrees from a hanging start. I am really good at planks and can hold them for 5-6 minutes. What muscles are helping me hold these planks? I assume they are the same o…

For years I wanted to go to a Yoga class. Yesterday I attended my first class! I was able to hang for the whole class. So I was beyond thrilled! Afterwards my sister and I walked on the treadmill for a couple miles and spent some time on the stepper too. We finished up with a healthy fruit Protein smoothie from the gym's bar to celebrate! Can't wait to try Zumba and Pilates!!! Loving this sleeved life! Blessings! Surgery - 05/15/2013 Down - 63 lbs

I'm gaining weight. I know, I know. I'm not sweatin it. I'm 6 weeks out and averaging 600-800 calories a day. It could be hormonal or it could be I'm not eating enough calories to burn calories. Yoga and rigorous physical activity are my exercise at the moment. My question is do I add routine cardio? If I'm not getting enough calories already will cardio help or hurt? I hate math.
