Insurance paying for gym memberships?

I know all plans are different but I'm curious if anyone has an insurance plan that helps out with gym memberships? I have BCBSNC, and can't look through my plan right now. It makes sense to me that plans would cover (either fully or partially) memberships but I've never thought to check.

My BCBS plan will pay up to $150 a year for gym memberships. It works out to cover everything for my Planet Fitness membership ($10/month + $29 yearly fee = $149 a year).

I just saw something online about that. Thanks!

My insurance covers all but 13. a month of my membership at 24 hour fitness. I totally get my moneys worth I'm there just about everyday and I take zumba 4 days a week. I go to a super sports club and my friend pays 59.99 a month for the same membership as I have. Many insurance companies cover it, it is call the wellness program so that's what you need to ask for when checking with your insurance.

Wow! I had no idea.... Thanks for the info. I'm going to check into this. I have Aetna.

Check with your work benefits also. My company pays a total of $300 yearly for gym and other fitness/weight loss plans.

Thanks everyone! I can get a discounted rate at the Y plus get reimbursed $150 from insurance. Unfortunately my small town doesn't have a lot of gym options!

I called my insurance company today. They dont pay anything towards gym memberships, but i do get a discount for being a student. That sucks i like my gym but it is very expensive.

Yes my plan is up to $150/yr per family. We belong to a Y with a family membership so it covers about 2 months worth of membership but it's a great extra benefit.
