Here's an interesting article that talks about various different types of aerobic exercise.....of course from the authors point of view. A good read. I believe the one you will continue to do is the best.....As always, YMMV. http://drsimpson.net..._comparison.htm

Walking!! I walk a minium of 3km a day, ususally closer to 7km. I entered a 10km trail race on Sunday. Only fell in the mud once, very challenging course with hills that took my breath away. Played golf all day yesterday. 3km in this morning with another 6km planned for tonight with my husband. I am signing up for 10km challenges every other weekend. This all from someone who did next to nothing in March! I am down 40lbs and keep my Protein intake around 80 grams per day. Only had 1 fill and feel wonderful! What a new lease on life I have! Soooo happy to be banded!!!!! Happy Tuesday everyone!!

So I am 5 weeks post op RYN, 3 weeks post op bowel obstruction. I am ready to slowly start adding strength training but I'm a rookie... Does anyone have a suggestion where to start? Does yoga count as strength training? I don't have a gym membership and I'm not ready to get one yet.

I cleaned out some drawers today and came across some 2x size Danskin brand workout clothes that I bought from Walmart.com and didn't care for, but never returned (WTH is wrong with me!?) Most still are in the shipping bags/have tags on them. anyway, I am offering the lot of them to whomever wants them...I'll ship them to you for free, too! I've got 2 T-shirts, 2 sports bras, 2 boot cut pants and 2 Capri pants. Feel free to PM me if you are interested.

Man am I pumped. Down 60lbs since feb. 27. Training hard and getting ready for some serious mountain bike races this summer. Dropped 2 of my riding buddy's, both serious mountain bikers and the oldest one 10 years younger at the 18 mile mark today on a 28 mile ride. Finished the double loop in record time and holding my own at the ripe age of 42. Gym work outs are coming together nicely, body is changing exactly how i want it to. Love my sleeve!!! Wish I had done this years ago! No lack of energy issues here! Keep working fellow sleevers! Enjoy the journey!!!

Hey everyone! I am 3 months post op and have been doing 5K training for 8 weeks now. I normally have all day to hydrate and get good nutrition so I have been feeling ok after our walks in the evening. On Memorial Day we had a celebratory practice that was at 10am. I never recovered for the day and felt horrible the entire afternoon. Then, last night at practice Summer was finally here and while we only did 2.5 miles I was light headed when I got home and it took about an hour of sipping Water and eating a Protein bar before I could stand without getting cold sweats. My actual question is, I have two 5K's coming up in the next two weekends which of course are in t…

I burned 899 calories today. It's 7pm and I'm in the negative. How is that even healthy? At what point are you exercising too much?? I'm a believer in eating the calories you burn while losing . That's usually impossible for weight loss patients in the first year or however long though. I dunno. I'm mostly wondering if you're in the negative, are you exercising too much? I should probably ask a "professional"

I'm not a runner...by any stretch of the imagination...but I want to be...or at least want to learn to tolerate it better than I have and incorporate it into my repertoire of exercise. So...I started the C25K and have been doing ok with it and I decided to reward myself by signing up for the Nashville Color Run this fall! I'm super excited!

I have been walking everyday since surgery. I am only 2 1/2 weeks post op but my surgeon has cleared me for all exercise. I really want to start done boxing classes and the surgeon said that would be fine. But this just seems so soon how long did others have to wait? Surgery: May 9, 2013

You wouldn't know it from looking at me but I really enjoy long bicycle tours. I'm talking rides that last over 2 days and run up to 250+ miles or more. Caloric intake and hydrating is sooooo crucial to completing these rides. On an average summer day i might need up to a quart of water and 600-800 calories to Keep me going. Have any post surgery folks had any experience with events that run 6 hours and more? Thanks in advance for weighing in!!

I currently walk average 40 minutes a day, 6 days a week. I have noticed on this forum that some people exercise a lot more. I understand you need to move and exercise, but I don't want that to become my addiction in place of food. I truly love walking and feel that is the best way for me. I was just wondering what everyone was told they should do from their health care professionals?

I've seen a lot of weight loss success stories and in nearly all of them running has been a huge part of their success. I really would like to work up to eventually doing a marathon. I know, at this point, a marathon is a longggg way off, but I'm willing to work to get there. I was just wondering if anyone had any tips for beginner runners ?? Thanks!

My surgery is scheduled for June 28, but as soon as I'm allowed I can't wait to get back in the water! I had a phase last summer where I swam laps a few times a week with some friends but the gym I belong to now doesn't have a pool so I might have to find another one. I really love swimming laps but am always embarrassed to be a swim suit in front of all of those people and teenage lifeguards. I'm hoping after I get banded and start losing weight I will feel confident enough to get back in the water! Anybody else use swimming as their main form of cardio? I know walking is really good to start but I can't stand walking in the 100+ degree heat lol.

Millions of people of North America have already been influenced by the Visulas 90 Day Challenge. The good news is that as of 2012, this program scores ahead of Nutrisystem and Jenny Craig in the race as a weight loose program. And it’s obviously a positive achievement. Watch out Weight Watchers, a result from this trend is irresistible. The truth that’s been proven is that THE 90 DAY CHALLENGE WORKS. Body By Vi The matter of charm with the Visulas 90 Day Challenge is that it’s quite affordable, flavorsome and cool to carry on, whereas other conventional programs are costly and contains many tracks to follow. We just move out of track! 90 day challenge[/url In the Vis…

Hi Everybody! I have been training for my first 5K and I am trying to work all of the bugs out! When I first began running, I was having problems finding the right sports bra to bind my boobies so they would stop flopping and pulling and hurting. I found that wearing two sports bras (one that is really snug and the other for extra support) along with a tight active wear top works well, but now I am noticing my other problem: My Pannus. It's not huge, but it is enough to bounce around and make my shorts pull down and push my shirt up while running. I thought about wearing Spanx while running to try to combat this and was wondering if anybody has experience with wearing t…

HI guys, it's been a while since i posted anything, but need some feedback. Background first...banded in 2007, had a fill here and there, dropped total of 80 lbs...realized was too tight (for too long) got an adjustment and gained 40lbs within 2 months. (all this happened end of 2011/start of 2012. Wasn't working out or anything. Then decided in July of 2012 that I am going to drop the weight without a fill and get working out and discovered boxing...I got hooked right away and for the first time in my life I work out (since then and continue to) 4-5 days a week at last an hour a day and it is not just boxing, we do strength and conditioning too. (NOT kickboxing-act…

I'm coming up on my 1 yr bandiversary June 13th and have lost 68 lbs so far, maybe I can break 70 by then, woohoo, hope so! My question is, I've started walking but everytime I walk for exercise I get very lightheaded or dizzy like I'm going to pass out, does anyone know why? This is the best I've ever felt in a long long long time and finally able to get some activity but then this happens. I always have to stop a moment on the street, take a few minutes then start back up. All that runs thru the back of my mind is my daddy, he's no longer with me, passed away in 2002 of a massive heart attack but early on he was obese then lost over 100 lbs on his own but I can reme…

OK, I work full time and have 2 young kids, my workout time is super limited. I am really trying to get in my exercise, so I thought I would get a workout DVD and do it in the morning before the kids get up. Being that time is such an issue I was trying to get like a 30 minute video that is not all jumping around. I looked at Tracy Anderson workout, as I really want to tone and tighten up but the reviews were so mixed --I just don't know if I should order it. Any recommendations? Thanks!

This topic may have been addressed here already but I couldn't find it. Due to my knees and now a foot condition, the treadmill and bike are too painful. Do youthink it is possible to get an all over workout with just lifting weights? Will circuit training do the job? I think I may also be motivated to workout if I stick to lifting. I was getting bored with the bike so avoiding the gym. Now my foot is acting up. My work involves being on my feet on cement floors for 8 hours which may have some impact on my motivation to jump on the bike or treadmill.

I read a good strength training book over the weekend by Mark Lauren called "You are your own gym": http://www.amazon.com/You-Are-Your-Own-Gym/dp/0345528581/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1370266234&sr=8-1&keywords=you+are+your+own+gym It is an awesome approach to building elite fitness. Mark Lauren shares his years of training elite SpecOp military forces with the rest of us. I really enjoy these exercises because they can be done anywhere at anytime with just your body and some common household items like phone books and broom handles. His approach is not a very long program -about 6 weeks- and is designed to get SpecOps ready for the battle field as quickly as …

My wife and I bought some medicine balls of 6, 8 and 12 over the weekend as an alternative exercise we can do together. Short of just playing catch, what are some good exercises that you have done with the medicine ball involving 2 people? These 2 person exercises do not need to be challenging, but more on the fun side. I will do the challenging exercises individually with the 12 lb ball, but would not mind some suggestions there also.

So, now that I'm at (below) goal, I want to get a 'bucket list' item checked off and do a pull up. Have never done one before, even when young and fit. Certainly wasn't even going to try at 362. But now that I'm down near college weight again and more focused than I was at 19, I'd like to build up to that. Tried one over the weekend and could only get about halfway up. I've found a number of sites with various exercises to build up to it, but what's a realistic time line? And any general advice? A chinup would count too. I'm 6'6", 42, and thanks to the elliptical, much better in cardiovascular than I ever dreamed I'd be. But obviously, my arms need some work.

Who knew!! I downloaded a couple Yoga apps to my phone and have been doing them sporatically over the last few months. But in the last 2 weeks I have completed 8 Yoga sessions and have noticed a crazy side effect... My band feels tight! Tight like it is a week after a fill. Feeling full is a sensation that is over powering now kind of like when I was first banded. Of course, it could be that my abdominals are getting tighter around the band and that is causing the sensation. I have also been told that Yoga raises awareness to your body signals. Maybe I am being a better listener? Either way, I am happy for the side effect as it is helping me use my tool better. …
