I always dread working out. Every single day. I don't enjoy it. I never have, though I wish I did. However, I just got done working out with my trainer and I feel sooo much better (more energy). I just wish I could internalize this feeling BEFORE I work out so I didn't have all the dread..... ugh!

I took my kids (ages 4 and 6) on a float trip yesterday! 50 pounds ago you could not have convinced me to get in a canoe! We had soooo much fun. Just thinking about the memories that I am making with my kids now brings me to tears! No more hiding in the house and wasting life. I look forward to each new day!

Day 24 (today) and up another 1.4 lbs...WTH!! I have noticed that I am getting a little more hungry and able to eat a little more. I journal daily; meals, exercise, weight to stay honest. I'm new to the forums and am loving the community and the help everyone gives. I'm 34 year old black male and was 497 at my largest and 493 at the time of my surgery on last Wednesday 7/3/13. After I came out of anesthesia all I thought was I can't believe I did this to myself on purpose. The pain was intense but now things are so much better. I'm able to get enough liquid and my stomach seems to handle a good level of broth with no issue. I'm really interested in amateur bodybuilding. It's a dream of mine and I want to start out on the right foot. So if anyone has info on how to start off on the right foot I in that direction I would love to hear from you. How is…

Did anyone make a point of working out prior to their surgery? I have three months between now and when I anticipate having surgery. I wanted to challenge myself to incorporate working out into my daily life prior to surgery so it's one less life change to adjust to after surgery. Has anyone else done this and been successful?

In the hospital for two days while my wife is getting sleeved. A good quick exercise I found is to jog up and down the 15 flights of stairs in the east wing of Swedish hospital. I jogged up and down 3 x and it only took a minute or two each direction. Not too bad and was able to get my legs stretched a little in the process. Now I want to find a 100 flight building in downtown Seattle and try jogging it over the summer.

So a lady stopped me this morning around mile 4. She lives right around the corner from me. "I see you walking every morning when I'm getting my coffee. You look great, you're losing weight, your posture has improved, your gait is faster. You are doing great, it motivates me to get off my butt and get moving" man that made that last mile easy! It reminds me to show up and work hard because you never know who's counting on you for motivation! I remember that I used to be embarrassed to exercise outside. I thought people would think "oh look another fat guy trying to lose weight, bet he gives up in a couple days." I don't know why I thought that just did. But I've bee…

Hey all... I finally took initiative and joined my local gym with a lap pool. I was on the swim team in high school (I swam in the slow lanes, but it kept me in shape!) so I know "how" to swim and I can honestly say it's the most confident I feel about. Anyway, I haven't truly swam since high school. That was 100lbs ago. I am pre-op and starting to get nervous for my first swim tomorrow. Thoughts of "how will I get in and out of the pool?" "Will the ladder break?" "What if I slow others down trying to work out and swim around me?" Are starting to consume me and I have to be awake to leave for the gym in seven hours! These thought patterns are what got me to this weig…

I really don't get it. Down 17 since banded the end of March. Started exercising 5 days a week about 3 weeks ago and haven't dropped 1 pound. Nothing. Nada. I do spinning like 2-3 days a week and walk/run on treadmill the other days. I'm sick of this muscle/fat explanation. Ugh!!!

So I was banded 4 months ago and I am down 25 lbs. I started out walking about 30 minutes 3-4 times a week. I have gotten in a rut and I haven't been doing any type of exercise. Does anyone have any recommendations of what I need to do so I can jump start my weight loss again. Also, I have gotten out of the habit of taking my lunch with me to work, and I will just grab something. Can anyone offer any advice for that as well. Any help with these issues is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

I work out at home. Yesterday I did my Max of squats and some butt moves. I wanted some DOMS today but- nothing. I "think" I read before that a lack of DOMS doesn't mean you didn't work out hard enough, but I seriously wanna KNOW that its working. I has saggy bum. Lol So, what are some *awesome* butt moves at home? I miss the gym.

Hello my friends! Well I decided that I'd try out this FitBit.. it a "bit" interesting.. and have had it all but 45 minutes.. and now? I need to get some "friends" that are using this thing too! I did take a look at the forums to try and find some users that have posted recently.. but nothing since 2012.. so hopefully this rouses some interest - please add me as your friend! I haven't been to a gym in years-7 to be exact. Today I joined I the hopes to maximize my pre-op weight loss. I know I won't be able to workout for several weeks post-op so I got a membership that would allow me to freeze it for a while. I'm so excited about getting sleeved, I hope my insurance approves it for July 31st.

We're talking walking, cycling, elliptical etc here- not heavy weight bearing exercises! I just got back from my surgery consent signing and nutrition classes (surgery July 2nd), and my surgeon explained it like this- after surgery, you're going to be at a severe calorie deficit. Your body is going to take the energy it needs from your muscles or your fat stores- it will take from your muscles first unless YOU tell it to do otherwise. How do you do that? By becoming active with walking and other low impact exercise as soon after surgery as possible. Exercise will help you retain muscle and as you lose weight, that muscle will start to be visible and will prevent you …

Cardio is 100x my favorite exercise. Walking, running, biking jumping in the trampoline, that hardly feels like exercise because its so fun! Strength is nice sometimes because it calms and centers/focuses me, but it's pretty dreadful otherwise. I like it at the gym but can't afford that atm, so I'm doing it at home with hand and ankle weights. I think my ADHD has something to do with my lack of interest in standing/laying still and counting to 15-30 for an hour. Oh my gosh just thinking about it makes me shudder. I LOVE the after workout high I get from it and I DO it because I know how good it is for me, how it burns calories when I'm sitting still afterwards an I wan…

So I got my new sneakers and I was excited to get out there and try the couch to 5k training. I have to admit that I couldn't finish it. I was a little embarrassed at how hard it was. I thought with all the walking and kickboxing I had been doing that I was conditioned enough. I was not prepared at all. I did a brisk 5 min warm up and then alternated jogging for 60 sec and brisk walking for 90 sec. I was only able to alternate three times. I'm going to try again tomorrow morning but this time I'm not going to stop I will just continue brisk walking if I can't jog again. Did anyone else trouble in the beginning?

I've made the decision (and it was an easy one to make) that I'm no longer aiming for a specific weight but a specific body fat percentage, which for me, is a goal of 15%. Some background - when I was losing, I got a little bit addicted to it. I eventually got down to a BMI of 21 and a BFP of about 22%. At a weight of 118lbs, I was 'skinny fat'. I now weigh 144lbs or 27lbs more than my lowest weight and I have a BFP of 19%. I know what I'd rather be! I've broken that mindset that skinny is what I want to be any more. I want to be healthy, that was my first motivation and it will continue to be henceforth. Which is why I now want to monitor my BFP and get rid of my s…

I'm 5 weeks post op and really trying to do everything I can for my body right now. I've started working out 4-5 nights a week and slowly building my endurance back up and work on getting in shape. To start I could only do 30mins and tonight I hit 45mins. I'd like to keep building till I get to 60 mins but I know I need to start adding strength training in. My typical cardio consist of spinning, elliptical, and lap swim. Is this ok for right now? At what point should I add in strength training? Thanks!

I'm about a month post op and right now I'm walking about a mile and a half everyday. I'm just curious to see how many of you do any other workouts (zumba, weight lifting, crossfit) besides walking and what you are doing. I guess I'm ultimately wondering if I can just get away with walking or do I need something extra.

This morning I walked/jogged my first 5K!! It was even more awesome than I expected it to be. I've never really been a runner. Never in a million years did I think that I would voluntarily run/walk a 5k. But, today I for my butt out there and did it!! The feeling of running through the finish line and seeing my wife and son cheering me on was AWESOME!! I have already signed up for another one!!

A while back I posted about 5-hour energy and Gels....well, I'm here to report that I am now up to 9 miles and using 2 gels during my long runs. The gel that works the best for me (since I dump) are the Cliffs brand...they are 90% organic and do not kill my stomach. So happy that these still work for me as I have a few half marathons planned and now I don't have to worry about losing fuel.

After years of trying my luck to get an invitation, I'm in!!!!!! Just doing the half, haven't done one in over 3 years (and hip surgery since then too). Game on! BTW, I just tried out a new app, Runtastic. Had to load in my version of C25K intervals but I really love this app. It synchs with my Mio HRM and then with MyFitnessPal upon completion. It's pretty slick. Sometimes a new gadget helps with motivation:-)
