I personally don't tend to eat before my workouts but I believe it varies depending on what your goal of the workout is. At first I used to drink a protein shake or eat a protein bar immediately after workouts because the protein helps with a faster recovery of the muscles and helps to build muscle mass, I don't do that as much now because I am alright with the muscle mass that I have and am just trying to maintain it and burn fat. I have heard of people loading on carbs before a workout to keep their blood sugar up but have never had issues with sugar myself so maybe someone else can give better info on that. Good Luck, enjoy the journey.

I have hypoglycemia also and I don't eat before exercise but that works for me because my treadmill and weight set are in my garage. I drink a large glass of water and keep my workout to under a hour and then I eat soon after finishing. If I had to go to the gym I would definitely eat a snack like yogurt.

my trainer recommends oatmeal or other slow digesting carbs. I always eat oatmeal before I work out with her and it has made a difference. If I don't I tend to have severe blood sugar drops and almost pass out. If I eat protein before I just feel more tired. I always drink a protein shake right after our workouts.

I like the idea of oats before the workout.

However, I have an interesting question.

What if we were to drink a casein shake before working out along with some good carbs and fats (I prefer energy squares). As casein is slower to digest ( I take at night for this reason), would it help before a workout to release gradual fuel for the muscles?
