  1. 1) At rest, muscle burns 6 calories a day, while fat uses 2. 2) Being even slightly dehydrated will slow down your metabolism. Stdies have shown that people who drink 64 oz of Water a day burn more calories that people that burn 48. 3)Energy drinks DO work, but you have to carefully monitor your heart rate and it is of no benefit if you lose sleep, since sleep is much more important. 4) small, healthy Snacks in 3-4 hour intervals will keep your metabolism going better than big meals with nothing in between, and skipping meals decreases metabolism more. 5)Spicy food, specifically those flavored with chilis, speed up metabolim, but it is unsure how much. 6) It tak…

  2. Hey All - I had surgery last Monday and I thought that everything was going great. I went home with anti-nausea medicine and hydrocodone. I misunderstood that I was to only take these as needed and took them every 4 hours as was on the prescription bottle. They made me sleep my 1rst week away with hardly ever walking and waking only to drink a Protein drink or Water. When I ran out of medicine Saturday I stopped it all cold turkey. I've since tried to start walking and moving around but a simple trip to the living room has my heart racing like I ran or sprinted. I feel incredibly weak and it takes all the will power I have to get up out of bed. Today in the shower I …

  4. Next week I have my nutritionist and psych eval. So I assume I will be able to have surgery sometime either late Dec. or early Jan. This really isn’t what has been bugging me, so bear with me. I have been overweight probably the last 20 years of my life. Through all the obvious hardships, and ridicule, I have maintained the "I don’t care what people think attitude". During vacations, I have tried to act as if I wasn’t hurt by the fact there were many things I could not do because of my weight. About a year and a half ago, I attempted a very radical self diet/exercise program. I would eat less than 1300 calories and work out very rigorously to near 600-800 calories burne…

Please I need all the support I can get!! I'm a unique case, I have sever heartfailure and am having the sleeve in hopes of loosing enough weight to get on the list for a heart transplant! -G.

hi Everyone I am so excited I have my surgery date for October 16th!!! I've had a few people tell me that I failed the band so I will probably fail the sleeve too. those comments really get me down but they also make me want to work harder and prove that I can do it and that I can lose the weight!!! :-)

Well, tomorrow at 4AM, my sleeve and I are driving from west coast Canada to Missiouri. I have asked on the NUT forum about food ideas or travelling & I think I am set. I have shakes, cheese strings, hard boiled eggs, LF ham & turkey, US applesauce, LF greek yogurt and lots of water. My cooler will be well stocked LOL!! SO I will be away from the forum for a week & will miss checking in to see how everyone is doing, I won't be using the app, as I will be data/roaming and just not gonna incur those nasty costs while travelling LOL!! Hope everyone has an amazing week !!!

I just couldn't get into my deep sleep. Has this happened to anyone else - do you think I will need to re-take the test? I'm pretty sure I don't have sleep apena...

  10. Well went to see primary doctor and had blood drawn for the A1c test. My b/s levels have ranged between 77 & 117. Haven't gone over the 117 mark in about 2 1/2 months. Hopefully that's a good sign. I am about to go to spend the night in the hospital to find out if I no longer have to share my bed with a mask and a hose....alas C-pap machine. Gonna be 'wired' so the tech can monitor my every sound (oh joy ). Hopefully I can give them back their machine and wave bye-bye to it as I leave....sorta. Has anyone else had to do the sleep study to 'officially' be declared Sleep Apnea(less)? Plus, my primary said I only have to take my blood pressure meds for a while l…

Ten days until my surgery. I am so super excited and I can't wait for this! I think waiting is the worst part, knowing how much better life is going to be, I want it now! Apart of me is still very nervous though as well. The 31st my four hour pre op appointment. How did post ops deal with their anxieties before surgery?

I highly recommend "The Expert's Guide to Weight-Loss Surgery", by Garth Davis from TLC's show, "Big Medicine". It's helped answer a lot of questions I have regarding all stages of the process. I especially like the chapter called "The Honeymoon Period," which talks about ways to end emotional eating. Has anyone else read this or have other recommendations they'd like to share? books, blogs, websites?

I really hate to be posting this but I have to be accountable to someone. I am almost 2 years out. Started at 331 got down to 224 (107 loss). Well guess what? I am back up to 264!!! 40 gain!!! What the heck happened? It really hit me today. Cold front blew in so I had to put on my jeans. OMG!!! So tight but I refuse to get a bigger size. I am misarable. I decided to go ahead and wear them to show myself what a failure I am right now. The sad thing is I know exactly what went wrong.....I started eating the bad stuff again and no exercise!!! Where do I start from here? liquids again? Just start eating better? How did I let this happen!!!!

So to all you work out fanatics, when you are doing an intense workout, do you find that you need to eat more to fuel your body? I'm only a 2 weeks out but started back to a cardio drills class that I love. I know it's a little premature but i modified to fit what worked. Problem is, I'm HUNGRY!!! I don't feel like I'm getting enough food to fuel a workout like this. Thoughts?

I am still in the pre-op phase and today at nap time with my 3y/o daughter I had a horrible dream. I was going in for my psych eval and three "professionals" met me in this office. I use quotes around the word because they acted anything but professional, eating and drinking and interrupting me, it was ludicrous! Any ways I had to get two out of the three of them to sign off on my eval and I only managed to get one to sign off because, as she said, I was pretty and she liked beautiful people. The second one wouldn't sign off and she refused to tell me why. The third one refused to sign off because she asked me what my worse fear concerning the surgery was and I said "Deat…

So I'm a little perturbed by that.. I told my sister (which I KNEW I shouldn't have) so today I get a call from my aunt asking me 50 million questions. When she talks to me, it's like I'm STOOPID. Granted she is a nurse, married to an ER doctor, but d@mn, I can read and research too!! Why can't people keep their mouths SHUT??!?! Sorry for the ranting and raving....

I’ve done all of my pre-op stuff (I’ll be starting the diet on October 31), and my surgery date is scheduled for November 14. I’ve been keeping my boss up-to-date on my appointments, and I’ve been saving all of my sick leave (currently up to 157.75 hours, with 0.25 hours of comp time, and 58 hours of annual leave). I only expected at least two weeks off, and some change. When I call the hospital to make sure before I put the leave in the system, the nurse said that she would like me to take 4 weeks off! Whoa! Not that I mind having 4 weeks away from some of the idiots that I encounter on a daily basis, but has anyone else been told that they need this much time off.…

So if I could offer a little background first. I was banded in march of 2007. I quickly in six months time lost 120 lbs. I ran 20 miles a week and ate a very regimented diet. About a year later I stopped losing weight. Never reaching goal. I began struggling with food and eating. Chicken fish and beef became impossible. I turned to soft foods that caused me less discomfort. Weight began to slowly return. But I just increased my running to compensate. April of 2009 I had a fill to help control my appetite. It caused my stomach to be closed. No spit even went down. The tubing had been kinked and I had to have emergency surgery and spent 5 days in icu. I wished then that I w…

I've been researching and planning for this day for a year and a half. My brain can not possibly retain any more information. I'm lucky that my husband is supportive (though terrified) and my parents are so proud of me. I've been nothing but super excited until about an hour ago. The nerves are starting to creep in. I had a brief "Oh my God what am I about to do" moment that quickly passed. I think I'm mostly dreading the whole hospital stay. I know its only one night and it will pass fairly quickly and I guess if I have to be nervous about anything, why not my very first hospital stay?

Hello!!! I was sleeved on 10/18, so I am officially 1 week post op. since surgery I have been on a clear liquid diet. Today at my one week follow up appointment the nurse clinician advanced my diet to full liquids. I was so excited to go home and plan my first "meal" post surgery. I was absolutely shocked at how quickly I felt full and how great something as simple as tomato Soup tasted. Is anyone else out there recently sleeved? How is the diet progression going? Is anyone nervous about trying new foods?

So I went for my six month check up (a month late). I've lost 87 lbs...woo-hoo! My doctor said I'm doing great. While we were talking I asked what he thought my goal weight should be. He said the government guidelines say I should be 135. I started cracking up. I told him my skeleton weighs more than 135 lbs. Under 150 people start asking if I'm sick. So here is my question...what bobble head decided what I should weigh? No wonder we are never happy. Others have "goals" that are completely unobtainable for most of us. I don't want to look like a runway model. I call them hangers. I'm still a woman. I still like curves. I just want them in the right place at a healthy …

I am doing great, I remember pre-op being so worried at what life would be like post op,as much of my life centered around food. God if I only knew that all that worry was not worth it. Life feels so normal now. I have been traveling for 2 months now, so my at home reality is a bit skewed...but at home my day almost always includes a work out, it helps me get through the day, ESP at work.
