  3. Started by Caroline G,

After over a year of planning, my surgery is scheduled for 12/11. I am so excited that I don't even care that I can't eat during the entire Christmas season. (I figure it is probably better anyways so I am not constantly eating and can focus in my new eating habits.) But it also means that I need to tell more people than I planned to about my surgery because they will be questioning why I am not eating. I just don't want to hear other people's opinions and biases. And neither my Mom nor my husband will let me skip any of these Christmas events. Also, I have to tell my work, coworkers, and clients next that I will be out a few weeks. And I am having trouble putting toge…

Seems so far away and so close at the same time. Not looking forward to the holidays because my husbands family is Italian and everything is food oriented. AND I have chose not to tell them about the surgery which is causing a little more anxiety as well.

I'm about 12 lbs to my initial goal. I'm gonna exercise my butt off to make goal by Christmas. Who's with me?

  7. Started by Jen35,

Yesterday, I saw the nut and the doctor for my second monthly appointment (out of 3). I am right at a BMI of 39.9 (it was 39.7 last month) which is not enough to be approved by my insurance since I apparently don't have the co-morbidities they look for with a BMI less than 40. They said that RA doesn't usually count (only regular arthritis) and other than that I only have GERD. I asked the nut about feeling like I'm in limbo, since I can't really work on losing weight yet or I may not get approved. And apparently I need to gain a little instead. She said she doesn't want to tell me to gain weight by next appointment, but to bring a big bottle of Water with me and d…

Iggy, how are things? I know that you are still around and posting, just wondering how the claw is holding and how are the stages of eating working out for you? Hope your little boy is happy to have his mommy home and that you are indeed looking forward to the holidays, decorating and being alive!! Hopefully you will give us an update, there are a few of us that really care and loved to banter with you! I haven't updated my ticker but I am 100 pounds down now in just over a year including pre-op weight loss. I feel so much better, and I am used to my sleeve now, it feels normal. I know my fullness cues and try not to cheat (much) but a small piece of dark chocky mak…

.. and jumping in. Waiting to hear about approval from my surgeon and a surgery date for December, tentatively the 22nd of December, less than 60 days away! I am DW. I am black and I live in Atlanta GA. I'm having my surgery done by Dr Alvarez. I'm currently 248lbs. My heaviest was 273... I get to this point where I lose 30 to 40 lbs and then nothing happens. I haven't been below 230 in years. Looking forward to this journey!

Hi everyone I have been on the sight for some time recently found the group. I am 11 days post op. I am enjoying my journey. Although there are hills and valleys, I am amazed that there are not more people in the group. Does anyone know why that is? I would like to hear your experiences and challenges. I believe being in gage in conversation is essential to growth, knowledge and success.

  15. What are your tips and/or tricks in order to get through what is almost the hardest time of the year? THE HOLIDAYS! For me, it's an emotional time and it's hard not to want to turn to food. I am trying to be more mindful and have a list of ready made "good" choices should I be compelled by my urges, but ... how do you deal? Do you have a plan? If not, come up with one (or five) and share it (them) pls.... On all kinds of topics to address this one: with the food pushers, with just great food in your face, with old habits wanting to creep in via familiar environments (which are triggers sometimes for me)..... what else? I am surely not alone with this one! Wi…

So, I hit 50 lbs lost (YAY!!) and I started to think of how this would typically be the point where I'd fall off that metaphorical wagon of dieting. At this point, your clothes are hanging off and people are more than likely noticing that you're losing weight. Before, having people notice would scare the CRAP out of me. I felt like OMG, the pressure is on to keep losing because they expect it. Unfortunately, when I'm feeling pressured/anxious/scared/etc, I turn to food....cue falling off the wagon and gaining the weight back. Lather, rinse, repeat. It is SO NICE not having to worry about that this time around. Instead of being afraid or scared I'm hopeful and lo…

My CPAP setting is really high. Like 17. At times, when I wake up in the morning I feel as though I have been blown up like a balloon. I was worried this might happen after the sleeve and possibly cause my issue. Well, I was right. I don't know how long I had the thing on. But, It DID BLOW UP my little tummy. I suffered for many hrs because of it. The pain was miserable. Lots of walking, lots of walking, lots of walking. I will not be using my CPAP again, at least until Im healed. IMABear

So, I was reading a post about a gal's biggest fear, which got me thinking about my biggest fear. At this point I think my biggest fear is being thin. I have ALWAYS been a big girl, my first diet was age 10 when my mom took me to weight watchers. As an adult I take comfort in big sweatshirts and oversized sweatpants. I don't know know how to (as stupid as it sounds) to wear shorts or skirts or tank tops. I am use to hearing things like " oh, you have such a pretty face," and "you are so lively for a big girl ( thanks grandma!)." How am I going to deal with genuine complements? Am I the only one who has these types of feelings/ thoughts? I guess I just need some com…

I am age 56 with a BMI of 38. I am ready to have my sleeve in about a month. I have been reading alot where there are alot of stalls and I am worried that I may not be able to lose much of my weight. I, like many of you, have always felt like I don't eat that much and my metabolism is slow anyway. And especially now that I am older. I have been on the high protein preop diet and even now, the weight isn't melting off, I have lost about 10 lbs and seem to be stuck there. Anyone else been here or feel this way? I almost am thinking I won't lose enough weight to even have the sleeve, will it be worth it? I am self pay and plan to go to Mexico.

This hasn't been a problem till I got my surgery date. I'm holding on by eating tons of yogurt, but still, I know I'm eating too much. Is it nerves? I wonder. I'm just trying to stay under 200 for my surgery. I wish it was tomorrow! Katekakk

Sleeved 7/9, almost 8 weeks out. I still can't get fluids, Protein in. I am always full after just a few ounces,. Had ann EGD & an Esophageal motility test done 8/28. It showed food is not emptying from my stomach. The GI doc now wants me on a "gastroparesis" diet. No fresh fruit or vegs, lots of blended foods. I also have a follow up with him 9/18. I probably only get about 16-24 ounces of fluids in daley & just some Soup once or twice a day. It is a big struggle. My weight today was 168 so I'm losing. Just hard because I get so weak & tired. I had no health issues prior to my surgery..Not sure why this happening & I'm getting scared.

Hi, all, my surgery date was December 10th, but I just got a call from my surgeon's office asking if I can move to the 6th, so that he can do a televised continuing education surgery for webcast! How cool is that? I had a fear about dying during surgery, and this is so ludicrous, but now I feel that there is no way I will die because he will be on camera! LOL

I haven’t even had the sugary yet and I have already noticed my husband being distant. At first he seemed to be real supportive but now that he sees this is really going to happen I have noticed changes. He doesn’t want to talk about it and seems to get annoyed if I even bring it up! He says we will talk about it closer to surgery date. The other night he had the nerve to say he sees me changing. I just don’t get it. I am so hurt that he would feel that after I lose the weight I will crave other men’s attention. I tried to tell him that has not even crossed my mind! I mean even being overweight I get male attention so wtf is he really saying? I am trying to show him…

  48. Started by aldmb2,

Hello, I am a little over 4 months post op & I feel defeated. Yes, I feel fuller faster & cant eat as much, but I can still eat anything I want too. Nothing bothers me. I recently fell off the wagon & Im afraid I have stretched my sleeve. I can eat more than every before (an entire lean cuisine or smart one). And, I know most of it is mental. Temptation is winning my battle. How do I know if my sleeve is stretched?

  49. My throat is killing me. I'm a teacher. After many years of immunity I guess with the lower calories/weight loss my immune system is down (although I do take my vitamins) and I caught something. So I'm wondering if (I'm 2 and a half months out) you had any differences in symptoms, duration etc. of colds flu, whatever since being sleeved. I will keep hydrated. Thanks so much!

  50. Started by Simons....,

So I'm 6 days post op and I've definitely lost weight. I can feel it and my clothes are starting droop in different ways. I still have a pretty good amount of gas in me and it's been difficult to drink or eat. Eating is actually the hardest. I can maybe get through a few bits of yogurt and a few bits of apple sauce before the pain comes. I've come to realize it's not that somethings wrong but that the gas they pumped into me during surgery is desperately trying to get out, believe me, I want it out!!!! It does hurt and makes it really hard to get fluids in. Walking is also somewhat painful but I keep doing it in small intervals. Will keep you updated. So far so good.
