Hi I'm 51 yrs old and I have a bmi of 38 and would like to lose about 70 pounds. I am all done with my pre op classes, tests, meetings ect.. I went on Fri to get a date for my surgery and went from thinking I would have a Lap Band to walking out with a date of Oct 10th to have the Sleeve. I was all for it when I was talking to the surgeon and now I'm scared to death. My family thinks it's crazy. My friends think its' drastic. The surgeon told me that the Sleeve is becoming more popular now than the Band. He said I was a good candidate for it. And now I can't sleep worrying about making the right decision. Am I losing it or is this too drastic. I'm scared of makin…

Hey Club 50's! I was sleeved on 10/11/12 and returned to my secretarial job yesterday and I dont think my body was ready! I felt great all day-nothing my Tylenol couldn't handle -then POW! At 3:45 (I work 8-4) I got the dame pain I get after I sneeze or cough too hard, except the pain didn't go away after a minute or two. Thank God I live 4 minutes from work-crawled in bed, called my dr. They said to stay home snd rest and call later today. They recommend a min. of 2 weeks off, no one told me that snd they gave me a back to work letter stating the 22nd! Anyway .... what is the burning feeling? Is it the stomach or hernia repair?? Feeling scared-I was doing so well!

Hello, I am soon to be sleeved and it seems that I may have the choice of a surgery center, which is located across the street from a large hospital or in an actual hospital. I have thought of many pro's and con's to each environment. I am curious what your thoughts are!? Where did you have your procedure? How do you feel about going home the day of the procedure? I was also told this may be an option. Thank you for sharing!!! Best, Sannah

Anyone else going to have their sleeve in May? I'm excited and now the nervousness has set in. I am reading a few posts that people are in the hospital for like 3 days. My dr said I would only be in the hospital one day. And that I would walk the same day as my surgery.... Is this something they tell everyone or should I plan on more than one day there? Either way, my life changes May 16th and I'm excited

I am now on the countdown- 7 weeks until surgery. I am so anxious and just want to start getting everything prepared and ready. What are some things I should be getting ready now? I have been asking the coordinator (whom I think is great) if I can get a pre and post op diet information and she keeps putting me off saying she will get it to me later. Should I be worried about this? I have a low BMI so I think I only have to pre-op diet for 3 days, but I am cutting out all alcohol, sweets and grains starting Nov. 1 (Surgery date Dec. 17 with Dr. Ponce De Leon). I cannot lose more than 6 pounds or I will be below my BMI for the surgery. Any help would be great. I think I wo…

I am still researching my surgery options. I am confidant that the sleeve is right for me. At this point I am looking into surgeons and their techniques. I am self pay. I am considering dr. Alvarez in Mexico. He oversews the staple line. I just watched a video of a surgery dr.hoehn in Kansas City performed. Dr. Hoehn used fibrin glue over the staple line. Another difference between the two is dr.hoehn leaves a drain in for a day and I don't think Dr. Alvarez does, does anyone know the advantages/disadvantages of each technique? Any info would be greatly appreciated!!!

So I just did my preliminary sleep study this weekend, and I started thinking today...I have one last dietary session and then my application can be submitted to the insurance. I'm super excited to be getting through this process so quick...but then it hit me...the feeling...I will be having surgery that's not required, and that its something I signed myself up for (my thought process..."OMG... what did I get myself into")...I am having a surgery to have more than half my stomach removed (I also found out that i'll be having my gaulbladder taken out too because of gaulbladder poylps) ... and all the sudden I got a nervous/scared type of feeling. My question is did any of …

After adopting 2 children and 16 long years of trying to have a baby, my niece finally gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. There have been alot of complications. We found out today that the baby has stage 3 IVH (intra-venticular hemmorage). I don't know alot about this condition but I was told it is in a serious stage. I'm reaching out for prayers please. Also, if anyone can tell me more about this condition, I'd like to hear about it.

Well....I have finally gotten sick of eating all the stuff I probably will never eat again......I had a food funeral this week and am so glad I got to do it.... I can't wait until Monday to start my 2 week pre-op liquid diet...... It feels okay to say good bye to all the past and leave this old me in the past...when I read on here about others having food funerals...I did not understand...but I do now and am happy to have gone through it.......I planned carefully every thing that I wanted to taste one more time.....it was good.......but I am so glad it is over..... The first time I was booked I did not get a chance to deal with the last meal and possible missed food…

Ok so for the past hour I have been in the bathroom six times and when I say it's liquid I mean liquid. Getting very graphic here. I can't tell if I'm tinkling or what. Soon as I'm finish five minutes later my stomach gets to rumbling and I'm back in the bathroom. I am afraid of dehydration considering how much if an effort it is for me to get my 64ozs in a day. Am I the only one that has had this problem. Sleeved on 9/19 almost five weeks.

Hey yall!! I think my biggest fear or what I'm most hesitant ab regarding this surgery is to have all this extra loose skin hanging. I keep hearing people say 'Oh you're 23? You'll snap right back no problems' but i guess I was wondering and hoping for some legitimate clarification. What do yall do to prevent the excess skin and are their ppl around my age who didn't have a problem and DID snap right back?? Thanks

When it is you can start cutting down all the protien shakes? I am only 3 weeks out and I know I still need a lot of protien but just wondered if you have to have 80 grams or more of protien forever? Also any advice on what to eat at 3 weeks out? My Doctor gave me the go ahead to start eating regular foods now but to start slowing with softer foods. Any suggestions?

Hi just wondering what sleevers in the uk are using in the clear liquid stage and has anyone been able to try the unjury chicken broth that i have been reading about in the posts from usa, and if so where do you get it from. How are u getting your protein quota, and where have you got this from. A lot of products are talked about that i have never heard of here in the uk, would really love to get as many replies as i can so that i can have a good idea what is good to use and where from, thank you so much. x

To keep everyone motivated as we begin our new journeys, I thought we could keep up with everyone's stats and other important information weekly. For me my weekly weigh in will be on Monday. Some ideas I thought of were: SW/CW/GW Measurements What stage of diet are you on now? What are you eating NSV New recipes that your are learning with your diet stage I thought these might be fun to get to know about everyone. If anyone is interested in a Facebook group that could work too. If anyone else can think of any others lets add them to the list. Thanks

I weighted 397 when I finally got approved for surgery. I lost 30 pounds pre-op eating two shakes, some lite yogurt, and a McDonald’s southwest grilled chicken salad a day. I had my surgery on 6/12/12. It has now been just over three months and I have lost an additional 56 pounds - so 86 in all. I had various goals that meant a lot to me over the past three months. One was getting under 350. One was getting under 340 which is what I weighed when my mom died 19 years ago. Then it was getting under 320. Now it's getting to 307 which will mean 90 pounds lost. My other goals have revolved around movement. When I started this process I had to illegally park in the vis…

Long story short: 4.5 weeks out from surgery. I ate lobster bisque (less than half a cup). My heart started racing, I started sweating and my stomach is cramping. I feel soo sick right now. I still feel like my heart is going to come out of my chest... what is happening to me? Has this happened to anyone?

Im just curious if those of you that have had the VSG and started at 220 or less have less of a problem with excess skin. It would seem to me that if we have less weight to lose, we would have less excess skin. Also, I was reading something about Protein injections. This is the first time I have read anything about that. Im not sleeved yet, planning on going 3/2013. Also, If you went to Mexico, did you tell your doctor before you went, needing much post op care from your primary? Thanks Robyn

Just wanted to say "hi", since I'm new to this forum. Sleeved August 6th by Dr. Trace Curry, have had no complications, have never gotten sick, no food intolerances (hence the "sleeve of steel" nickname) and hope it stays that way. Down 52 lbs. in 11 weeks. Best decision I ever made!

This is my update on band revision. I met with Dr. Clayton Frenzel in Arlington for the first consult. He was NOT the Doctor that put my band in. My original band doctor wouldn't return calls and I felt abandoned after he got my cash payment for the band. I've been having problems for about a year now. I had band surgery in 2007. I lost a total of 75 lbs and stopped losing about 18 months after the band. Dr. Frenzel did an endoscope to find out the problems. Seems my band was placed really lower than it was suppose to be...I was overfilled to the point my stomach has prolasped. They did find I had a hiaital hernia but even if they fixed it and did the sleeve....insuranc…

I am wondering after all the tries, fails to shed the excess and the final decision to have WLS...have I really prayed about it? I have had a tendency to pray and not really wait on an answer. The way I viewed WLS was probably the way many naysayers have, but ONLY regarding myself. I would never discourage another to do it for themselves. So why now has my view changed?? It's because 'I' can no longer do this alone. In the last few weeks where 'I' have made the decision, I have been gung ho about research...on the websites for hours on end, forsaking FB and Twitter(need to dust that off). I have filled myself with YouTube, VST, OH, 2 friends in conversation, m…

Hey guys, I am new here, well new writing here since I have read pretty much all over this site... I am from Quebec, Canada where there is a lot of obese people but almost no surgeons for weight loss... There is actually a 7 year wait for those that want to go in surgery covered by the medicare or there is self pay options that are pretty expensive 21 000$ to be exact. I am 20 years old and I have always been the fat girl in my group of friends and I have this huge lack of confidence because of my weight. I have always been the shy girl and the girl that makes fun of herself so that people don't feel the need to make fun of me. I was actually bullied when I was in Pri…
