Does any one have an idea of how long you should wait in between surgeries? I know it all depends on the type of surgery you are having and the anesthesia used. The reason i am asking is because i might need an arthroscopic knee surgery for my meniscus but i dont want to delay my sleeve. Hoping to get sleeved mid december. Wondering if i could do the knee surgery begining of november. Thank you

  8. I was diagnosed with Lyme disease a few years ago. A month before my surgery, I had another round of it. Now, it's back again! The fatigue, joint aches, headache and pain is REALLY messing with my head. I know that being 57 pounds lighter, I would be feeling so much better without this going on. I get sick to my stomach too, so taking my medication and eating are becoming more difficult. I'm just so frustrated, I want it gone now! Thanks for listening

I posted the novella/questions in the pre-op area, but after looking I see many familiar faces, so just wanted to say hi! Fairyface from LBT. 5 years out, band broke for the 5th or 6th time in Feb, instead of yet another fix/new band I'm getting the sleeve. I now have insurance that covers it (I am 99% sure), and calling the nurse Monday to get an update. Hoping to get it done asap. No fear, no glory! Is that the saying?

  13. Hi all... My surgery is scheduled for Oct 22... I am now feeling fear and anxiety... but not about surgery problems or complications... my fear is: What if it doesn't work? What if I go through ALL of this - I start my protein fast on Monday... get the surgery, am in pain, yadda yadda yadda... and I remain fat? It's a stupid worry, but that is my actual fear.

I am 26 and am at the very beginning of the process, waiting patiently( or not so patiently) for a seminar so I can get the ball rolling... I wish it was sooner, I am already excited and nothing has even happened yet! I am hoping to soon be the proud owner of a brand new sleeve!

I was banded in November 2008. I lost about 80 pounds and then all of a sudden I got swollen and couldn't eat or drink. I hadn't had a fill for almost a year at this point. Dr. Removed all fluid (8cc) did a swallow test and the band didn't slip and was fine. Gained a bunch of weight back and started the fill process all over again. Got back up to 7cc and was losing slowly. Then it happened again, swollen and couldn't eat or drink. Removed 2cc this time and I am gaining. I would like to get the revision but does this qualify as a complication? I feel like my body does not allow the band to be as tight as I need it to lose weight.

Married with 1 child, 5 yr old boy. I am scheduled to have my sleeve done on October 10th in The Woodlands, TX. I am pretty nervous but I am extremely excited. You see... I have never been thin. From childhood I have always struggled with my weight and it's something that has haunted me my entire life. I am 6' 6" and I weigh 441 pounds right now. I have definitely hit bottom. Six months later, I have lost 60 lbs since surgery. I've dropped from a size 20w to size 14. My bra size dropped from a 44G to 38DD. At my heaviest weight, I was 275, today I am 193. This has been an amazing journey. However, I don't see the weight loss like others do, so can be quite frustrating. Taking various photos and comparing them has helped visualize my weight loss. Other than that, I feel great. More energy, no more back pain. Having the surgery has been a great step toward A BETTER ME.

  19. I did not get to start this post on the 1st because the family made a quick trip to Branson,MO. So a year ago I was recovering from VSG and wondering if this time was going to be the last time I would have to lose weight. Would I be able to lose AND maintain? Went thru a few very tough weeks in the beginning but slowly things got better. Now a year later I am at Table Rock Lake in a bikini!!!!! Wow! Gotta love the sleeve life!

I didn't realize I was obsessing until I woke up this morning and as I rose from the bed I was holding my tummy like I just had surgery.. haha anyone else think I am excited or just nuts? Now only if I could actually eat as if I were already sleeved I would be all set! Just wanted to share, since I am sure many of you may be able to relate. Have a great day!!!

I'm not sure if this is where I start the posts. This is my first time starting a group. My BMI was 34 when I had my surgery. How did I get to this point? I never had to worry about my weight when I was younger. And I'm talking 15 years ago. At 44 yrs old. Then, I started paying less attention to what I was putting in my mouth, and not exercising. I knew that I was putting on weight, but never really saw myself as big as I was. Clothes got tighter, but I kept saying "I'll start my diet Monday". Then Monday came, and I felt deprived if I couldn't eat the foods I wanted. My comforting friend. I couldn't lose that friend. I could lose 20 lbs, but only to put them b…

Hello, I am one year out and have gone from a 44 waist to a loose 36 waist. I haven't weighed myself in months, instead I look at my body and absolutely love the increased energy. I have also gone gluten free and that increased the energy even more. After the sleeve my body settled into one BM every 3-4 days. It was an event of epic proportions and the smell could peel paint off of the ceiling. A month ago I got food poisoning and since then I know have gone to 2-3 days. Anyone else out there with these symptoms?

So I have had a lapband for 8 years... lost a little but never hit goal weight. I have gained about 100lbs back I went to my surgeon yesterday and discussed getting sleeved. He said he would like to do it in 2 steps. First remove my band, wait 3 months, and then sleeve me. He said he feels most confident doing this because of scar tissue. I found a way to pay for this (23k - ouch!) but now that I found the money I am faced with deciding if I should do it. A part of me is terrified of failing. I went out to dinner last night and all I could think about is can I really handle the sleeved life?? Will I be miserable like with my band? Also- in your opinion does the siz…

Hi Folks, I have been reading the forums and learning that many people rapidly gain weight between the period of time that the band is removed and having VS surgery. It will be four months between my procedures and I asked my general practitioner to prescribe me phentermine to help control my weight gain because my appetite returned with a vengance. I am wondering why this is not a general practice with revision patients to help them maintain their weight loss until the sleeve surgery. If anyone knows, I would appreciate being enlightened. Thank you.

After 20+ yrs in OA & still 317 lbs. this surgery was my last hope. I lost 32 lbs b4 the surgery as my insurance required & only 28 lbs @ 3 1/2 mos post-op. I can't find words for how discouraged I am with the results of this surgery. I've stayed the same wt now for about 5 weeks. I am so afraid this is it for me when I have sooo much left to lose (100 lbs). I wish now I'd gone with the bypass choice or lap band. I am so frustrated & ready to give up & go back to eating sugar & junk. I've already mentally thrown my hands in the air. This surgery was meant to save my life in more ways than one & now I don't care anymore.

  36. I'm curious to know what constitutes a food addiction. I'm morbidly obese, but I never obsess about food. I do have occasional anxiety and sometimes eat to soothe the anxiety, but not often. I never CRAVE food -- I don't get obsessed about a brownie or a burger or whatever. Mostly I just overeat -- I eat a normal portion of food, and then two more portions besides! Also, I'm extremely sedentary (this is sort of the bane of my existence, my own physical laziness). From what I understand, I don't really have a food "addiction." I just eat like a starving wolf, and I'm kinda lazy. Does this ring true to you guys? Mostly curious -- I'm not going to really change m…

9 Ways to Deal with Hunger on a Diet Diets fail for a lot of reasons but one of the primary ones is simply hunger. I discussed this sort of tangentially in the research review Why Do Obese People not Lose More Weight When Treated with Low-Calorie Diets and one of the comments on that article is what prompted me to write this article. What is Hunger? To say that human hunger is complicated is a vast understatement. To cover it in detail would require a series of articles or perhaps an entire book. Research continues to uncover numerous interacting and overlapping hormones (such as leptin, ghrelin, peptide YY, GLP-1 and others) that monitor how much and what someone i…

So, mine has been pretty bad lately. I am 3.5 months out and down 50 lbs. It started at around 2 months but has been getting worse. I have shoulder length layered hair and it (was) pretty thick. I have even been eating a bit more than I should (about 1200 cals a day) for the past month. My hair comes out in clumps every day when I take a shower, and is constantly shedding if I brush or run my fingers through it. I've been taking biotin since day 1. I'm just afraid it's not going to stop and I'm going to end up bald soon. We will never be able to eat the same way so I don't see how it will ever stop. Any advice? What can I do?
