Hello all my VSG'ers... In 2012 Im going to have Vsg in Mexico as i am a self payer and is doing this with my tax return money. Im 28 married and have 3 beautiful children.. I weigh 340 lbs and have a BMI of 54.9. Sine the age of 8 i've struggled with my weight. I would lose weight and put it right back on. Went to my consult today. Doc wants me to lose 10 more lbs and then I will be cleared for surgery. In the mean time, wait to be called to schedule my psych eval, and attend a wls support group once a month. This is better news than I could have hoped for! Yay!!

I recently heard a woman talking about people who say surgery is the "easy way out" for the obese. We, on this board, all know this isn't going to be easy! She mentioned people who are having double, triple, even quadruple bypasses, hip and/or knee replacements, diabetic related surgeries, etc. Aren't they also taking "the easy way" by having surgery instead of losing weight on their own and preventing the need for the surgery? Think about it! How many surgeries, medications, testing, etc. could be avoided by people losing weight? You know the insurance companies wouldn't be paying for WLS if they didn't believe it to be true! Remember this the next time someone…

I've been growing my dreds for 7 years now and they are quite long. I'm four months out and have been worrying all this time about losing my hair. I was wondering if anyone with dreds experienced hair loss? I don't really know what to expect -- could they just start popping off?! Do they grow more slowly. I heard that most people experienced shedding, but it's hard to imagine how shedding would work for my hair type. I know I should try not to worry about it because there's not much I can do (I've getting my Protein and taking Biotin the whole time, but I know it may be inevitable.

Looking for others who are here in St Louis that have recently been sleeved. My surgery was July 19 an just wanting to go through this transition with someone else that knows what I am going through. I will be going to try and try the support group at Des Peres hospital (where my surgery was) but I really do not want to walk into the room the first time by myself. And most people do not consider me shy but with this I am.

My nut told me only about 1% of patients have noticeable hair loss. Based on what I've read on this site, I'm not sure I believe her. My friend had R&Y five years ago and never had a problem. Are there any others on here who didn't have a problem? I'm hoping we're only hearing from the ones who do, but the majority don't? It's not going to change my mind about WLS, but my hair is the ONLY thing about me I actually like right now.

I've finally arrived at my next appt date. I have my consult with my surgeon, nutritionist, and wls program coordinator on Weds morning. When I scheduled the appt late last month, I was nonchalant about it, and told the assistant that I didn't need the first appt available and would prefer a mid-week one (easier on my job, Mon & Fri are difficult to take off). When she told me Sept 12, I thought to myself 'Eh, that's not so far away'. Well, I've been counting the days ever since. It seems time can't crawl by quick enough. Ugh.

Was sleeved April 14 of this year, and have been doing a pretty good job of cutting out everything I can, focusing on Proteins, etc, and even starting to finally work out for the past six weeks (Couch to 5k - running), and have gone from 333 lbs starting, to 254 lbs! I initially thought 240 was a good number to shoot for, and it seems to be one I'm happy with looking towards hitting if I can. This has been crazy fast...much faster than I thought it would have happened. I know most guys lose weight faster than women, but this is ridiculous! Just wanted to share some positivity with people that would understand. Keep working on getting healthier, everyone! You can do …

Thought I would introduce myself. I am 54 and in the process of getting the sleeve. My ins is approved., I have gone thru an info meeting and will be meeting with the nutritionist 7/11/11. I have gone thru the process before 6 years ago except for the lap band then the ins said no. Now that the gastric sleeve is available I think it is a better choice for me. I am really excited. Everything that I do now that seems a struggle or even summer cloths I tell myself next year WILL be different! I am looking at being sleeved sometime late Sept. I am 5'4" and 315 lbs. I have started taking Biotin. What I am mostly concerned with is the turkey neck! Does anyone h…

With each day that passes since my surgery on 8/1, I'm realizing that my life really, really, really is changing! Today i giggled at myself as I reflected on a few of the changes. Please feel free to join in! You know you're a sleever when... 1. You look forward to eating your gummy vitimins because it's almost like eating candy 2. You walk through the grocery store and nothing looks appealing 3. You get to the check-out at the grocery store and the only thing in your cart is Protein. 3. You can't find anything in your closet that fits and this makes you SMILE :Ds 4. You're thirsty but you can't drink because if you do you will have to wait 10 more minutes for…

I have been wondering this for awhile. I know that with healthy eating, exercise, and the sleeve, you will lose weight..I am living proof of that. However as your weight loss slowed, did you try medications or supplements, ei Ally, phentermine, hoodia, ect ect to help your progress along? Thought I would put it out there. Thanks for your answers in advance.

So, had a major dump session today. My tummy and back hurt so bad for awhile today that I seriously thought I was DYING. I even called my pulmonologist and tried to get in to see him. After I slimed, I felt some better, then I came home and had to climb into the shower fully clothed. I'll leave the why to your imaginations. Lessons learned: Dont take my Vitamins without that essential mini babybel cheese and easy on the veggies. I snacked on broccoli, carrots and cheese last night...along with about six pieces of chocolate halloween candy, over the course of seven hours. Today, I paid for it. No more junk food.

I had my band for yrs and had it removed because it slipped. I'm not sure if it eroded but I was a pretty sick lady. My surgeon said he'd never replace the band on me but if i was to gain (I was thin from the band) back the pounds he would sleeve or do bypass. I'd say it's 2 yrs later and I gained it back. Insurance requirments for sleeve is to do the 6 month diet log thing. Here's my question....If I was already banded, do you think I'd have to do the 6 month wait...did you have to after the removal of your band??? I recently had so many other tests (stress, endo, labs, ultrasound) that I'm not worried about having to wait around for tests, I'm just concerned about the 6…

i posted this in another thread, but thought that i'd post it as it's own topic so everyone could see it. http://www.cockeyed.com/photos/bodies/heightweight.html it's a chart that uses real people of all shapes & sizes, from all over the world.. they're all at various heights and weights.. i thought you could maybe use it to see how you could potentially look at your goal weight, maybe to help you figure out what your ideal look could be or maybe it would be fun to submit your own picture(s) to the site if there's open spaces in the height/weight chart, so you could be helping someone like you! it's pretty neat to see all the people across the world that submi…

Hello all, I could really use any and all advice and encouragement today. I had surgery 4-30 and was 219 on surgery day. I knew I was not going to be the fastest loser on the planent given my age (53), status in life (going through menopause) and just past history. I was ok with this. But as of 7-30 I weighed 195.8 and have been some version of 195.something for the last 6 weeks. I started exercise classes in mid July and all went well for a few weeks then I hit this wall. I eat about 1200 calories a day, sometimes a little less and sometimes a little more. Never more than 1300 and usually a little under 1200. I work out 3 nights a week for an hour and these classe…

So because of a prior abdominal surgery, my surgeon does not want to do the sleeve (or any other surgery for that matter) because of the fear of complications. While I am grateful for his restraint, I am so disappointed and hopeless about what to do about the weight. I had finally accepted that this was the answer, as I am carrying about 150 extra pounds that I have not been able to get off on my own. After being told that this was really the only way to get the weight off, I am just lost.

HI EVERYONE! I decided to give this month's sleeve challenge a shot and reach out to someone or whoever is interested. So here it goes....... I'm still at the beginning of my sleeve process and I have several steps to go before I get to the part where all of mypaper work is sent in for insurance approval. It's nerve wrecking to have to go thru so many hoops and hurdles. I was wondering if there is any out there, close by, that is at the same stage as I am with this. If so would you that would like to share your experience with this process and go this together. I do appreciate the information and tips from people all over the country and the world in some cases but …

Was sleeved June 14th at Abington Hospital in PA w/Dr G. I started out at 5'3" weighing 229 lbs & am currently 167.2. I'm feeling great! I had about a 3 week stall due to sickness/acid issues/starvation mode but I saw the scale start to move a little more!! Can't wait! So, according to my starting weight I am down approx 62 lbs in a little less than 3 months! =) Super excited! How are YOU ALL doing?? What are you eating?? Are you exercising? I've been very active BUT not exercising due to lack of time! Really wish I could/would....that's my new goal!

Hi everyone. I'm completely new to this site and to the concept of sleeving, in general! I went to an informational meeting last night, where they went over the 3 types of bariatric surgeries they do. (bypass, sleeving, and banding). I went into the meeting being all about the band and came out all about the sleeve! It seems that the complications with sleeving are less; than with bypass, and I can't stand the thought of a band in my body, and then having to willingly let someone stick me with a needle every month! They gave me a bunch of paperwork to fill out and I turned it all in today. And it scares me that i just came home from the meeting and filled it out and then…
