Does anyone else have problems with their bodies regulating the heat outdoors after surgery? Even with the 64oz of water and sunscreen, I will over heat, everything in my stomach turns bad and I end up sick all day. I was never like this before. I am 13 wks out. Just wondering if anyone Has gone through the same thing.

Has anyone had their surgery canceled the day of surgery because they did not lose enough on the pre-op diet? I am afraid that its what is going to happen to me. I have major pms bloating (should start the day of surgery), I am fighting emotional eating and I cannot take my medication that fights that. Needless to say this week has sucked and im sure I will be sent home crying on the 22nd. Oops, I also forgot that I am leaving tomorrow morning for a business trip and will not be home until 7 hours before set surgery...

I called my coordinator and she is out until Friday. I am so frustrated!!! I was supposed to have vsg in September. Now I am wondering if that will happen or do i need to start this process over with a new doctor???? I just want my life back!!! I am tired of feeling like i am being held back due to my weight. Thanks for letting me rant..lol

Hi Everyone I am new to the forum and the sleeve process. I began my journey considering the lap band and was soooo happy to find out about the sleeve. (umm extremely nervous too) I am beginning my blood pressure and 6mos weight mgmt process and I am sooo confused. I have a bmi of 36 with high blood pressure and I am being put on the 6mos, doc supervised diet for insurance submission. Am I REALLY supposed to go hard at dieting?? I mean I know how to lose "some" weight but it's the keeping it off that is (litterally) killing me. I am afraid if I lose weight on the program I will go to low on bmi and reverse my BP problem, although that is the goal, I know doing it my…

I just received my surgery date for October 9th. I know this is the best thing for me, but I still have worries. I especially worry about complications and getting all my nutritional needs, i.e. protein. I know the first few months post-surgery are the most difficult time emotionally and physically. I feel that if there is a light at the end of the tunnel, I can do anything for awhile. Most of the posts that I have read are very possitive and helpful. That makes me feel good but I would feel better if I knew what life and the dietary restrictions will be like 2+ years out. Will I ever feel normal again without worrying about what to eat?!! I have talked with my di…

Ok..,so we all fall off the wagon...so last night..my daughter is having some flan...that stuff is like mermaids signing a siren's song to a horny sailor to me...love it... Anyway...I keep telling myself...don't touch it...it's milk(I am lactose intolerant since having my surgery)...."You'll regret in the morning"!!!! I find myself saying.."just one bite won't hurt...just one". So course..one bite I took...and what do you know...it went down great...tasted even better. So what do I do but have another bite...then another...then another...and stop...4 small bites. Sigh..while this is certainly less than I would have ever done in the past, I felt satisfied. But the sto…

Ok guys, I've had enough medical crap going on to last me a freaking lifetime - at least for the next 10 years at minimum I want nothing else to be wrong with me. Through all of this, I've been focused on my goal and trying to remain positive. But I have something that is bothering the obsessive compulsive part of me. Dare I come to post it to get a proverbial slap of sense into me? Ok I'd RATHER some polite perspective on ways for me to reframe my state of mind. I'm finally at 160! (Yay me!) I am 5'7" and FOR ME that equates to a size 12 (I wear a size 11 shoe, yes trannie territory I know... but gives you a point of reference that I'm no string bean.... women's …

So dr. Joya said because of my weight that i might need a 2nd vsg down the road a year or so to lose the leftover weight. Has anyone gone through this? The way i factor it is ill be down to about 300 lbs from 479 after a year im 3 months post op and down to 420 lbs right now im losing about 4 lbs a week so in a year ill b at around 300 is how i figured it and i know the first year is when u lose what your destined to lose.. So yea i think ill try and save to get the 2nd surgery in 9 months to go from 300 to 220-250 then skin removal to 200 or so...so anyone have a similar experience?

Hello all, I am about to go to the hospital to get my band removed and be sleeved..I am so nervous of how this sleeve is going to be compared to the band..I've had my band since November of 2008 and it's been a rough road with complications.. band sucked no doubt! I lost 25 lbs on my optifast diet in tell weeks...I've learnt a lot while on my liquid diet about myself and how society views and uses food over the past 2 weeks while on my diet...well wish me luck! -Ryan

I went in for my 3 month check up this week. Blood work was great! My doctor said that most patients have lost 20-30% of their excess body weight by this time. I have lost 55%!!!! My doctor did not seem concerned about that, but my NUT did. She said that I should be eating 3 small meals a day and one snack. I tried and tried to tell her that I just can't eat very much at all. She gave me sample meal plans, and there is NO WAY I can eat all that at once. I was eating small Protein enriched Snacks every two hours. She wants me to stop doing that because it can cause me to make a habit of "grazing." What is the problem with grazing if you can only eat an ounce or two of anyt…

I have two questions for the already sleeved. 1. How is going out to eat with friends after the sleeve? I have a group of friends who go out to eat every Saturday. We can sit for hours eating and drinking. That is my entertainment. I'm scared that I will no longer want to go since I can't eat or I will over eat and get sick. 2. Have you replaced your eating addiction with another addiction? I'm hoping to replace mine with exercise but I also hoped to loose weight without surgery.

Hello fellow August sleevers... I hope everyone's journey is going well! Up until the last 4 days I was doing great, I've lost 25 lbs so far in my new way of living... but I appear to have stalled....already! I'm doing everything exactly by the book and even walking about an hour a night (about 5 days a week)... ugghhhhhhhhh I know I need to just keep my chin up and it will get better soon...but I just needed a safe environment to gripe! Happy losing everyone!

Alright fellow sleevers I'm ready for you to chime in your thoughts below on my VSG story. November 7th I started my liquid diet at 198.6 pounds. On November 14th the day of my VSG I weighed in at 190.6 so I'd lost 8 pounds in 1 week!!! Wahoooo!!! Had the surgery that morning out in Dallas, TX. Came back home to ATL, GA on Friday morning. On the following Tuesday (the one right before Thanksgiving) on November 22nd, I weighed in. I was now down to 177.6. Great Job for me! 21 pounds exactly. But heres where it gets very discouraging. I HAVE NOT and I REPEAT HAVE NOT lost any more weight since that day November 22nd!!!!! Had my first Doctor Consult with my surgeon on Monday…

My name is Natalee from Birmingham, Al. I was banded May 2008 and lost almost 100 lbs within a year and a half! Everything was fine but then lost my insurance and was unable to have a fill for 2 1/2 years! But during that time due to family stress gained 80lbs back! Recently I went to a doc in the box because I was constantly nauseous and sick. Doc said it could be related to my band but I told her it couldn't be! Sure enough, went to Dr. Touliatos at Trinity Medical Center in Birmingham and the band had started to erode!! So he said it had to come out and he recommended have the sleeve at the same time since I'm still morbidly obese. Within a week the insurance had ap…

I love looking at people's before and after photos for two reasons: 1. It is amazing to me to see the confidence difference in people from their before to their after picture. All of a sudden, people are wearing jewelry, they have on trendy clothes and big smiles. You can just see that their entire demeanor has changed. This is the main reason why I like to look at the before-and-after pictures. 2. This one is weird. I like looking at the backgrounds of people's pictures. I feel like I can get a general sense of who people are by looking at what's in the background of their pictures. It cracks me up how many people have crazy things in the backgrounds of their picture…

Have you ever pondered on that little things that can change so much in your life over time? Well I was having my Soup tonight, I have always used a Tablespoon for Soups, cereals etc, Why? Well my grandfather did it. Well Why did he? cause he was older and shaky and it helped him get some to his mouth unlike a teaspoon he would loose most of it before it reached his mouth. So I was thinking how so many things are like that that changes how we eat and don't even realize it. The Bigger plates that we fill heaping at times. Bigger cups. Larger Serving sizes. The fast food restaurant on most corners, so when your driving home from work and tired and still got to go ho…

Hi, I was banded in February 2008 with a start weight of 220. My lowest weight was 180 and I never lost more than that. Due to other problems with the band, like food getting stuck and vomiting, the Dr. suggested the sleeve. So I am seriously considering it. My concern is that I failed with the band. It did not erode or slip like I see so often. I just didn't lose the weight and I ate around the band. So I'm seriously wondering if I will succeed with the sleeve. I would like to think that part of it is the band in that the food got stuck and I never felt full. But it would be comforting to me if I heard from someone who didn't lose a lot of weight with the…

Hello everyone I have an appointment next week in Greenslopes. The doc at the seminar had some girls that had been banded or sleeved who said there was a combine support group in Brisbane. I would really love to hear from any brissy people or even Aussies that have accessed there super to pay for there treatment. I have the APRA forms and will be seeing my doc on the 19th where he will be giving me the extra paperwork for lodgement with APRA. Does anyone know how long it takes for the lodged application to go through? If I had my way I would of had the surgury yesterday. Sooooo many hours researching the ins and outs of band vs sleeve, finding out pros and cons ei…

I have posted a few times about this topic, but I'm still looking for some sort of similarity between someone else, because I am losing hope that I will ever ingest food again (I am not exaggerating). Surgery on Monday, 8/6. By Friday, I can't keep any liquids down, so I go to surgeon's office. We find out through a barium swallow that I have a stricture. They think it is due to swelling so they send me home, hoping I can hydrate myself through the weekend. Monday morning, I'm admitted to the hospital for dehydration. All weekend it was a constant pattern: 1 sip every 10 minutes, then 30ish minutes later, liquid would come up. No pain. Monday, I rested and hydrated, min…

Interestingly, have been having a few issues more recently, four Vitamin deficiencies (not great, but manageable), plus random episodes of severe shaking, sweating, disorientation etc etc. I was advised that this was almost certainly 'late dumping syndrome', so have really tried to get back on track, and keep everything in check, however it has continued to happen - tonight i got the usual symptoms, and after borrowing a blood sugar monitor ( presuming I was bingeing inadvertently) discovered that this 'dumping syndrome' was a blood sugar level of 2 - ooops! I understand that this is essentially hypoglycaemic, although I have no idea what this means in a wider sense, …

I am in the process of making the decision whether to have the sleeve or lap band. At the center where I am having my surgery there are no staff members who have had the sleeve. I was wondering if anyone could share the benefits of the sleeve. I have been told that weight loss is limited with the sleeve. Everyone at the center is a little partial to the lap band. Help!

while i know i'm not the only person who has had the compliction of a stricture after sleeve surgery, i am however the only one in my support group and since it happens only in about 1% of the patients, i'm not forseeing anyone joining my any time soon. nor would i ever wish this on anyone. i had my sleeve surgery in december 2011, my first stricture surgery 6 weeks later, now after being on only soft/pureed foods i go for my gastro check up today and find that since i still continue to throw up 1-2 times a day that they want to go back in a do a second stricture stretch surgery next week. i'm so disappointed, frustrated and really feel like i'm on the verge of a menta…

Hi everyone. I hate to be posting this but I really need some help getting motivated again. What I don't need is hateful remarks from anyone. I don't mean to be rude but a lot of people on here have been very negitive and that's why I have strayed from this website in the past. My problem... I have become a grazer. I eat close to 1300 calories a day at last count and I only started counting because I felt the weight coming on and started weighing myself again. I have gained 10lbs from my lowest. This has all happened in the last month. I have been under a lot of stress which has contributed to the problem but I thought I was past the emotional eating crap. Part of the…

Hi everyone, I just got home from a good friend's house and it was the first time I've got to see her and sit and chat since I decided I was definitely going ahead with surgery and got a surgery date.. I was hoping she would be excited for me but instead I got the "why don't you take that money and spend it on a personal trainer and a nutritionist instead? I can show you how to eat vegetarian and you can come work out with me whenever you want." She just doesn't get it and I was so disappointed.. I really shouldn't have expected her (or anyone for that matter) to be supportive and excited. But seriously, I can't believe that in this day and age there are still SO many peo…

My story is not so different than most. Band in 2007; my surgeon left the practice and the single remaining surgeon was juggling everybody for about6 months until the hospital closed thermogram and all the patients transfer to another surgery group about 45 minutes away. Along the way I never felt restriction or achieved that "sweet spot" but was unable to tolerate solids with any meal and eventually got to the point that protein shakes were toothpick to tolerate. Next we moveacross country (had band unfilled just prior to move) and I decided that I would finda new MD to remove band as I was developing severe anxiety and depression associated with eating anything. After s…
