  8. Soooo this is my first topic and it is about how this all just hit me that I am really going to have it done. Just booked my flight, my hotel. and about to do car (my fiancé and son are coming as well and will hang out in san diego till I get back) Now to just pay for the surgery on Tuesday... I will be sleeved on 8/13/2012 in Mexico by Dr. Almanza, and will return home on 8/17 and will be back in school and clinicals by 8/22. I am so nervous about going back to school, having to lift and move patients... I have heard many people can do it... some can't... but I figure if there are some complications... God would have had something happen in my life sleeve or no sleeve.…

What are you most looking forward to after being sleeved? I want to be able to walk a distance or climb a flight of stairs w/out being winded. I want to FLY (w/out feeling like I'm encroaching on my neighbors) I want to ride roller coasters & hike w/ my family. I want to have the confidence that I’ll fit in that chair @ the concert or movie theater. I want to shave my legs w/ a razor, LOL. I want my bra to stop slipping off of my shoulders… my purse, too, for that matter. I want energy to do what needs to be done. I want energy to get me healthy & confident in myself again. I want to love my husband confidently. I want to stop hiding from people who hav…

Ad my nutrition appointment last Monday, I seem to be on track eating and in weight loss for the goal I set for myself of one year weight loss (200 lbs lost in one year)... Then the NUT said to lose 200 lbs in one year I should have lost 60 lbs by three months. Well, I've lost 59.2 and we aren't even a full 7 weeks out... So I've changed my goal on a trail basis and I'm going to try for a 3 month goal of 82 lbs lost... (crazy I know, but it's worth trying) I have the nutrition part of the sleeve down so far, now I need to add the excercise part. For the first time since I can remember I actually want to get up and go... I make sure my shoes are good, have some shorts a…

  17. Well, I had my first WLS class with Kaiser. When the nutritionist weighed me and computed my bmi it was 40.3. Since my blood pressure is under control and I'm not on any medication for high cholesterol (even though my LDL is well above normal), she wasn't sure if I would qualify or not and have to put my case before the OWC committee for approval or denial. What are my chances of getting approved? If they don't approve me, will they cover any complications if I get it done in Mexico? I am really tired of yo-yoing with my weight.

I turn 50 in a few months and I am so excited about life. I've lost 75 pounds so far - looking to lose another 100. I can't believe how full of life I feel, how hopeful, how energetic and adventurous. It's like I've lost 10 years too - and I am enjoying it so much. My sister just got married for the second time. She met a wonderful guy who is crazy about her. They share a strong faith, a love of travel, the joy of family (and extended family), a desire to build a warm and welcoming home, and a deep friendship. That's what I want too, and I am feeling more open and ready for that daily. Anyone else out there feeling like they have a second chance at life and love…

I am excited to find a Christian group - God's strength is what's going to be getting me through this, I feel. I am pre-op and just waiting on insurance approval. I called the company on Monday and they said that it was in the final stage of approval, so I'm hoping that I hear something today. I'm thanking God for my approval because I KNOW it's coming! Thank you for this group! God bless you all!

Is it back to liquids and purees after? I go in for egd and possible balloon stretch of the structure on august 10th. Barium swallow i just did shows sleeve narrowing/stricture. With all the problems i had finding a digestible Protein and lactose intolerance I am really bummed to find out I have a stricture now!

  30. Hi! I am currently 10 weeks post-op. I'm having trouble with the everyday ups and downs on the scale. I'm looking for a mentor. Someone who can offer encouragement and advice. While I am probably doing well, I feel like it needs to be better. I have PCOS, which really does affect weight loss. Also I have an injury that prevents me from working out like a "normal" person. Even going for a walk, boy do I pay for it . (Thank you roller derby or my torn PCL, MCL and everything else wrong in my knee. Lol.) I am having surgery for it in the fall. But until then I feel like I am wasting all the "good early time". I am struggling with the mental part. Which is where a lot of the …

I had my psychological evaluation on Thursday 5/31. After I left I started to become worried. I was completely honest and admitted to the psychologist that I had patterns of binge eating in the past. We also talked about my past history of emotional, physical and sexual abuse, and my diagnosis of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Depression and Anxiety. All of those things are under control now, I'm just so afraid he's going to say I'm not ready to deal with the surgery. Any advice, words of wisdom, encouragement? I know they say honesty is the best policy with the psych eval no matter how dark it is, I'm just afraid I blew it for myself.

Hi. I am looking for buddies that are in the San Antonio area. I moved here from Alabama two years ago. I was sleeved August 8th by Dr. Duperier. I am doing okay so far. I am on soft foods this week and then on to normal food. I cant eat very much at a sitting but its going ok. I had a set back two weeks ago with a kidney stone. I am feeling much better now just cant wait to get the stent out! Let me know if anyone wants to buddy up with me for the journey! I have no friends here and I am private about my surgery so it would really help if I had a buddy! Thanks!

But has any one else dealt with other mind games??? A: I'm not willing to take my "fat" 30/32 clothes out of my closet... They are my clothes, I feel like my husband is being evil by taking them away and putting them in a box.... Seriously when did I become so attached to these clothes??? They have been in the box in the middle of my bedroom for about a week now... I might be willing to. Finally let them go to the closet. B: I've lost 68 lbs... I haven't seen it until today... Just wanted to share this "Global Fat Scale" from BBC. It calculates your BMI, then tells you which country your health/BMI is closest to. At my current, pre-sleeve weight, my height/weight/BMI is most similar to the country of Tonga. =( Hopefully I'll be changing to a slimmer country soon! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-18770328

  42. Hi, I had the lap band in 2008 and failed miserably. My food was either stuck or went through and I learned to eat around the band. I lost 40 pounds but then needed an emergency unfill due to not being able to drink and I have gained all but 10 pounds back. I now weigh 210. My doctor recommended the sleeve. Without thinking too much, I had it submitted to insurance and I was shocked that they approved it right away (they gave me trouble with the band). So now that I'm finally here, I'm scared to have another surgery, this one with a lot more cutting. The other thing I'm afraid about is failing again. After all, I already failed once with a restrictive only pr…

  43. I'm two weeks post op and having a hard time with this new stomach. I can't drink anything without getting instantly full and then I feel either nauseous or lousy when my stomach is full. I was already in the hospital for severe dehydration which IDK how because I always have Water next to me. I can't get enough Popsicles or water because I am SO THIRSTY! Before surgery I guzzled water all day, water bottle after water bottle. In 2010 I had 3 surgeries to get rid of a kidney stone the size of a ping pong ball so ever since then I make sure I get enough water. Now it seems impossible since more than a tiny sip makes my hernia repair and sleeve upset. Because I'm taking…

  44. I had my 1st appointment in March 2012. So I have been on this journey for six months. I did my upper GI May 3, 2012. They found that I have stenosis of the esophagus (narrowing in the lower part of my esophagus). Than I had to do a Esophagael Monometry (they put a tube in your nose and run it down into the esophagus while you are awake). Than my Endoscopy Doctor got the results he sent the result to a friend at the Mayo Clinic to get his opinion. I talked with my Endoscopy Dr. a few day ago and he told me the diagnosis is Achalasia. Than he said I cannot have the weight loss surgery because of the risk. I immediately looked up Achalasia on several website…

Hi my name is Amanda, I have decide weight loss surgery is the best option for me. Unfortunatly, my insurance does not pay for this, so I will be paying out of pocket. I hear lots of talk about surgery in Mexico, and how it is so much cheaper. I would like some opinions of this, my biggest concern would be safety. I was also wandering if anyone has had surgery in Mexico, if so, how did it go? All comments are much appreciated! Thank you for taking the time to read this!
