As I approach surgery time (late September/early October) I continue to constantly worry about throwing a blood clot or dying on the OR table. I know that is a terrible thing to say, but I can't help but think "what would happen to my husband and 4 year old son should something terrible happen to me." Anyone else worry about this? Or anyone post-op worry about it right up until and going into surgery? I don't want to get worked up about it and be so nervous going into surgery that I make myself physically sick. Any suggestions on how to move past this fear???? Am I needlessly worrying???

I was sleeved on May 21st. I am off all food restrictions. I really need to eat more than I do. A couple of small spoonfuls of something, and I am BEYOND full. I don't want to live the rest of my life on supplemental protein shakes. When I eat...it makes me feel just ugh. Not sick..just the feeling of...I would rather not eat again for the rest of the day. Will I be able to tolerate more food as time passes? Or are there any tricks to help me get in a little more food? I eat healthy and follow all the rules.

I found this somewhere on the world wide interweb. Feel free to take, modify and share. I have been using it as inspiration on my first few post op days. The part in the italics are where I modified it and made it personal. MY BODY PLEDGE I vow to love my body--starting now, however I feel, where ever I am, whatever size I am in. I vow to stop bashing my body & fight back against my bad thoughts--I have to learn to love myself, if I cant, how can I expect others to? I vow to stop snide comments that make me feel less--I am not less, I am a whole hell of a lot more then that. I can lose weight, I AM losing weight. You are ugly and cruel on the inside.…

  5. I'm going to be brutally honest here. I was in traffic court yesterday and there were these two very large women. One had a cane and the other a walker. They were in their 30s-40s. They had to sit down in the seats and they could only manage to turn sideways and somewhat sit on the edge of the seats. One young man in his 20s didn't even really fit through the gate to go see the commissioner. I was considering my life and how it has changed dramatically in only 6 months. This past week I reached the summit of a 10,000 ft. peak.. Seven months ago, you couldn't get me to walk down the street. I was even starting to avoid friend's parties. I wasn't rude and didn't stare,…

I Can't seem to lose weight unless I'm on the liquid diet. It's frustrating!!! I'm 3 months post op. I'm 287 from 346. Yes. I'm proud of the weight loss, but that all only happened while I was on a liquid diet. 10 of that came from the monthly diet. Then 20 of that came off on the pre op diet. At my week after surgery I weighed 311. I stayed at that till 2 weeks ago when I went back on the liquid diet. Lost 20 and now I'm rethinking going back on the liquid diet. I miss food so much. And I really have a feeling it has something to do with this stupid pcos. Ugh.

Currently, as a pre-opper I think nothing of slamming back a bottle of Water after a long walk or workout to quench my thirst. I have often wondered how this will work post-op. Are you still able to slam a bottle of water? Obviously I know that right after surgery and probably for a few months out it is all about sipping, sipping, sipping BUT with that said what about being months/years out - are you able to turn up a bottle of water and "chug" it?

I got my sleeve on June 5, 2012. I really started getting serious with my nut April 1, 2012, when I tipped the scale at 373. (5'6") I've lost a total of 100 pounds since. For any pre surgery folks that are reading, this is what you can look forward to. I can tie my shoes without holdin my breath I can cut my own toenails I can go up at least 6 flights of stairs and not pass out I can hug my kids and their hands touch at my back (first time in their lives) I can sit at a booth when we go to a restaurant I can buy pants off the rack, without going to a big and tall store (on a funny note) I can put on my 'starter jeans' and my 14 year old son can get in them with …

  12. Hello, I was told that my umbilical hernia could be repaired at the same time as the sleeve surgery. Then I was told (by another source) that the hernia repair would last only about one month. Which is correct? If the latter is true, I will put off the hernia repair until later. Thanks, Paula

I did it. I lost it on July 31. Feeling like I had another cesarean birth. I'm just glad there isn't a newborn to take care of. I've finally lost all the operative gases and can feel my bowels again. No movement, but I can feel them. Hubby had to help with the shower which made me feel so much better. I am below my presurgery weight. The tots are coping well with Mommy not being active and Dad doing the cooking. I think they are tired of turkey sandwiches and hot dogs. It has been encouraging for the tots to say I love you Mum and give kisses while I slept it off on day 3 when I got home. I was extremely nauseated days 2-4, but keeping up on the antinausea me…

  20. So glad someone made this group. I've missed you all so much! I apologize for not getting the contact information out. US Airways lost my luggage and they were in there. It's been over two weeks and still no word on where my luggage is. They think it could have been stolen since they made me check it in as the staff wouldn't help put it up in the overhead bin since if they got hurt, the flight automatically gets cancelled. Ugh! Never flying them again Hope everyone's recovery is going well. I was doing great until this week when I got my stitches out. Just wondering ( and not sure if I am posting in the right place) are any of you bakers, chefs, cooks? If so how do you deal with making your recipes without trying them while you are trying to loose weight or while you are on the soft food stages? I am an instructor and while I teach I don't sample any of my students cakes. I do however love to try new recipes at home and of course I try them out before I can have other try it out. I just realize that that has got to stop but how?

I get a pain on the left side of exactly the middle of my back and sometimes my left side of abdomen but I thought that might be because thats where my big incision is. I just have one more NUT/PA appt and hope to be sleeved in September (should find out by the end of August the latest if it's approved). Anyone wanna be my pal? I tend to talk things through a question a lot. I also tend to want to post about personal things at times and then will delete. I think this is where a buddy will come in handy for me

I'm 100% sure that I want this, and I'm 100% sure this is the most nervous I've ever been about having a medical procedure. I think the difference is that a lot of the success of this procedure rests on my shoulders, with past procedures I I had to do was rest and let my body heal. That will happen this time too, but the long-term success is totally defendant on my compliance with the diet and exercise program thats been laid out for me. I'm still excited, but now the enormity of the decision I've made is in the forefront of my mind. I will do this and I will find success this time, and I feel…

So after my husband and I both dealt with that for the past 24hrs we finally got me into their system (I was in the system all along, not sure what happened). I called the dr today and they told me it sounds like it is upper GI bug and to call back in a week if I am still feeling this way and they also called in some anti nausea meds. Do you ever wake up second guessing your self? For the past couple of days I have been contemplating not having the surgery thinking I can do this by myself. In reality I know I can't. But I think to myself that since I don't have much weight to lose I don't need the surgery. Then I know that losing the 50+ lbs. will help me control my comorbitities. I've been driving myself crazy with this. I almost think that's why the dr.'s give so much time in between appointments so we can think things over. Have you been thru this? Maybe I'm just scared of the after math. Maybe if there are any complications I don't know.

At first I thought maybe those people who were struggling didn't make the first six months count because they were told to eat 1200 calories. I DO NOT advocate eating that many calories!!!! But besides the fact that I did not eat that many I looked at what other people say and in another way I differ from some people is that I would never sit around eating for an hour in order to get all my food down. I literally eat 10 bites of food...pretty quickly, and I stop. I feel satisfied and in two to three hours I am eating again, but again I eat a couple bites, quickly and then stop a…
