I was sleeved on Monday, July 30 and came home Wednesday afternoon, August 1! Aside from a couple bumps in the road, this was quite doable! First bump: deferred, strong pain right over the upper left chest. After going through some cardiac precautions (blood enzymes and echocardiagram), was determined to be gas pain! Whew on that one! Second bump: I have atrial fibrillation and woke up last ***ht (my first ***ht home, sleeping in my own bed) with definite atrial fibrillation, something I hadn't expereinced for almost a year! The episode lasted only an hour and the cardiolgist from bump #1 said that it was asymptomatic and was not a medical emergency unless is persis…

I had to get out of bed for a bit. After laying around in the hospital bed the last few days my back is just killing me. Anyone else restricted from using a CPAP while healing? It is making quality sleep a challenge this week.

Hi All, I was sleeved on the 18th and I can honestly say today is the first day that I find myself struggling. I want to eat lol. I want to eat more than I can. I won't but I want to. Feeling a little bummed... What to you do when you are having a tough day? What helps you get past it?

I'm curious to know how those of you who are in college adapted to the change. I'd like to say that I'm a pretty outgoing person, but being so vastly different from most people in college (I went to a private school, and everyone was rich, thin, super active, and extremely weight conscious - it was terrible ) I kind of became a shut in. I didn't want to go to parties, I didn't want to even go to the caf. I really felt like everywhere I went people were staring or laughing. I'm looking forward to starting a new program at a new college this fall with a brand new body. Well, with the workings towards a new body! It'll be super interesting to see whether or not I can…

It is so easy for me to go through my day without communicating to others. Especially easy to go by without sharing what I am really feeling. Why is it so much easier to eat a sandwich, than reach out, touch and be touched back? {:>} rd

I was just sleeved on July 17th. I'm actually really surprised I'm here now and didn't chicken out... But so very glad I didn't! I was sleeved in Orlando by Dr. Jawad. They did an excellent job and have been there for all my questions but it would be nice to have someone who is going through the same thing at a similar time to talk to and help motivate each other. Any takers?

Well....next week I will be 8 weeks out....so far I've lost a total of 46 pounds since my surgery date, June 11th, 2012...my family suggested that I take a picture, but I am not a picture taking person.... I know one suggestion is to take pictures along the journey so you can see the difference....but I've been big my whole life, well since age 6, and I just never liked taking pics....others usually take a pic of me and catches me by surprise.... Well let me get to the question...when was it that you were no longer running away from the camera??

Ok, so it seems I can rarely do anything in moderation. Since being sleeved, I'm somewhat lactose intolerant which actually helps me stay away from what used to be my BFF (ok, maybe not - but awfully close)... meaning chocolate felt like my BFF. I have developed a taste for crunchy / salty things in the past several months. In the past month and a half or so, I have really started craving whole zesty dill pickles in a really bad way. I slice the whole dill pickle usually in 4 spears, then fold a piece of cheese in half and eat it like a little sandwich. I would add a cracker to that, but know that that's even MORE sodium. It's gotten worse, I went through a whole …

Was just picked up at San Diego Airport! On my way to the Obesity Control Center to do pre-op tests with Dr. Ortiz and then off to surgery!! This feels all very surreal! Im nervous and excited. A little scared. But i think it has to do with my being alone. My auntie wont be able to fly in until tomorrow, if even possible for her. Heading towards the US/ Mexico border right now!

I wanted to thank all my fellow sleevers for all their support with my Dad. He passed away Thursday am. I am doing suprisingly well, he is in a better place. Of course I miss him but the wonderful memories are keeping me going. He was a wonderful man that everyone liked, he had this charisma about him. Make sure to spend as much time with your families as you can...life is too short. I love you Dad!

I'm so discouraged right now. Had VSG May 8, lost 20 lbs in the first 3-4 weeks, then stalled since. I've had 3 periods in those 6 weeks, even though I had novasure to remove endometrial lining in January. Saw the NUT last week and she told me that my weight loss was too low (of course, it was lovely to hear this after she told me how she'd never been able to gain weight til she was 40 which means she totally doesn't understand where I'm coming from.) I was so encouraged and excited by the weight loss in the first month. I know that I did a TON of exercising right after surgery, walking around shopping with my mom. I'm not exercising 60min/day 6x/week like my NUT w…

Has anyone been sleeved by Dr. Blaine Neese out of Huntington West Virginia? He is doing my surgery. He comes over to the VA hospital on Thursdays to do surgeries. I just feel funny because I have never met the man that's gonna be responsible for changing my life. I met the VA surgeon that will be assisting him. I'm on the countdown with 19 days before the big day. I was so excited and now I'm scared and on the verge of changing my mind. My only sister can't go with me now because she just had major surgery on Thursday! Can I really do this by myself? Please help, especially post sleevers that have gone through surgery. Freaking out in North Carolina!

I have a 4 year old, rambunctious son who drives me nuts on a daily basis as is! I can't imagine tending to his needs post-op and surviving on liquids and very few calories. Anyone have any tips to make that transition a bit easier??? I love the boy but not looking forward to tough recovery days coupled with a small child.

I will, for the first time in almost 20 years, step into an arena to demonstrate swordfighting for my group "Dagorhir". It will be at Space City Con in less than two weeks. I. am. so. scared. I still can't see myself as a size 14-12. I am working on this really great costume, leather fighting corset, and the whole nine, and I put it on and I FEEL like it doesn't fit...I don't understand this, and so far no one has really been able to help me with it. I am in the process of cutting the costume DOWN, because I can see it has become too big, even recently, but I FEEL like I have somehow fit a size 20 or so into this 32" corset I want to represent my group and myself…

So I'm about half way through my 6 month process. I'm expecting to be sleeved around November with the intent of taking all my pto at that time, just 2 weeks then back to work. I have not ever mentioned wls at work and I'm just wondering how and when to broach the subject w/ my supervisor. She's a great mentor and everything but the environment is full of women and it's very high school. I mean she can deny my pto request I guess. I'd just like to have some sort of plan before i just go blurting it out or screwing everything up because it's a busy office and people will have to cover my job when I'm not there. I have under a year there so I don't qualify for FMLA and I'm…

Hello All, I Kinda introduced myself in another topic on here. But, here is some more. 42y/o (43 in Aug) Been heavy most if not all of my life. Except up through High School with Swimming and Waterpolo and a Cali State Lifeguard. Ever since college started gaining. Had to lose for the military, man I looked good after bootcamp. Anyone from the South Florida area. I am in Davie but being sleeved in Hollywood Florida this Thursday 6/7 (i can hardly believe its almost here) I keep reading posts about people finding different "supplies" at Walmart, target etc. Every time I check I can't find any of the items mentioned. I can't figure out why I get very shaky and lightheaded when my blood sugar is in the 90-100's I almost feel like it's in the 60's... That same groggy, tired, shaky almost confused feeling. I am a diet controlled diabetic so I don't take medications to assume they are dropping the bs. I am on the 1000 calorie meal plan. But I am making sure I eat enough protein and carbs in my meals. The thing is my bs doesn't really drop low it's actually very good at least that's what I think when it's in the 90-100. Has anyone else experience this?

I figure we are all on the same timeline for pre-op....I can do Atkins (induction) if I don't cheat, not even a little (says the nutritionist). I am wondering if I shouldn't just do liquid the couple days before to make sure all is "empty" What about y'all? Liquid or non-liquid for your pre-op? Karen

My hubby who is 6ft 4in and not overweight keeps eating my food that is meant for my weight loss. It started when I was drinking Ensure High Protein during my pre-op diet. He would take one every morning and drink it on his way to work. Now he has started eating my string cheese, and my Greek yogurt cups, my crystal light. I know it shouldn't bother me but it really does. There are so few things that I am supposed to eat, and I have to get a certain amount of protein in, and he keeps eating it!!!! I know that he doesn't do it to get under my skin, but he does it because he grazes and he likes convenient foods. He is the kind of guy that would rather have juice boxes in t…

I am having my surgery on July 30 and I am really worried that i haven't lost enough weight and my surgeon will tell me that my liver is to big. That's the main thing that I am worried about right now. My scale at home says that I have dropped two pounds since like Thursday (I think) but I'm still worried. Is anyone else having last minutes anxiety? Amanda

Check in time! If you see any of our fellow August Allstars around the forums let them know about our check in! I am trying to spread the word in my signature below too! I am down 5.2 lbs to 134 since June 2nd check in. I'm 10.2 from a normal BMI which is my goal (for now)! I went on vacation to sunny Florida last week and wouldn't you know TS Debby was there too - BOO! But we did lots of indoor walking at malls and we did spend a couple days at the beach which was nice. I felt great - not exhausted and sweaty the whole time like it has been the last few years. I did good with food. I am so happy to have my traveling life back! I am so glad I had this surgery just u…

The first few weeks on liquids I never got that full feeling...the I ate enough feeling and I wondered if something was wrong with me. Now that I'm adding solids I feel the "you've ate enough" kick in. My weight loss has been slow which has discouraged me some but I'm really trying to see the whole picture. I'm just so glad I feel what I've been looking for.

Two really good reads on slowing down and eating with intention. "So when you sit down to eat, notice the colors, smells, flavors, and textures of your food; chew slowly; and turn off the TV, put away the book and certainly step away from the computer screen,- learn to appreciate your meals – hey you may feel fuller sooner than you think, putting your overeating habit to rest." http://www.supermarketguru.com/index.cfm/go/sg.viewArticle/articleId/2962 http://amihungry.com/mindful-eating.shtml

My surgery is tomorrow. I've been attempting to explain the liquid diet to my 2 tots and it has been difficult. The doc gave me the reasonable expection that I maybe out of commision for at least 5 days. My spouse has been unsupportive in the whole process and I think will do anything to hinder me. For anyone that has had surgery, how long were you out of commision and were you able to take care of your kids? I don't have help and am a stay at home mom.

So i am about 4 weeks away from surgery, i have not gotten the actual day but surgeon said toward end of august. (i find out monday) so i am clearly super thrilled with getting my useless band out and having a second chance at losing weight but i am finding it really hard right now toget motivated to start an exercise program. I had it in my mind that i would really try and lose before surgery but i cant bring myself to get out of the house. I am so incredibly hot as it is over 100 degrees in virginia rigt now and the thought of walking outside....yes even in the evening...is unbearable. So i am inside trying to stay cool. I havent really changed my diet like i had hoped …
