I'm getting ready to get picked up in 3 hours to be taken to the hospital. I have a major caffine headache and would love to drink Water. Other than that, I'm actually a little excited. I'll post my journey throughout the next few days here for others interested in Dr. Kelly. So far they have been great. Don't be jealous, but they are actually picking me up at my house, since I live closer than the airport.

Household chores: can it get better with weight loss? I feel like my house has gone to the birds since I am so heavy. Picking up after my 4 year old, laundry, mopping, sweeping, cooking, scrubbing toilets, etc. It all seems to take so much out of me. Somebody tell me it gets better and easier and houses are a little bit cleaner post-op?!? My house might evict me if surgery doesn't come soon... LOL

I'm glad I found this app!!! I read all of these great weight loss stories and I feel like a little over 50lbs lost just isn't enough for five months out. I really go through a variety of emotions, however, I am pleased these past few weeks since I've lost 8lbs in two weeks after being stalled for two months. I like the benefits of the sleeve, however I find thAt I experience what could be hyperglycemia. I eat right, drink my shakes and then around two pm I want to hit up Dunkin Donuts. Has anyone else experienced these cravings and how did u deal with it? I look forward to spending a lot of time on this app 285-pre op 264- two weeks post-op 233.4- current weig…

Hi everyone. I have been away for awhile. The last five pounds is the DEVIL!!!! I have done everything from change in what foods I eat to what days I do cardo and weights, how much Water I'm taking in. I have journaled everything for the last 16 months. Yep nothing, nada, zilch. This is so frustrating now. Sixteen months post op and I'll be damned if the last five pounds will win. LOL!!!! If anyone has any suggestions by all means let me know. This has got to be hardest part. Thanks everyone!!!! Deb

Hey everyone, just found this forum. I am 31 years old and live in buffalo ny. Pre surgery I have lost 28lbs but have since stalled out for two weeks which does happen I know. I have my sleeve surgery on monday at 2pm. I am terrified! I am excited about having this done and to start the next chapter in my life but I cannot get over the overwhelming terror that I am not going to wake up on moday. I have had surgery before; my gallbladder, a hysterectomy and before that a tubal ligation and I was only moderatly nervous for those. Is anyone else feeling this way?

Hello everyone, my name is Holly and I am in the process of getting approved for surgery in the fall. I have to take all these steps with my insurance company first, before I can have my surgery. If everything goes right I should be able to have my surgery in October, so I'm excited and nervous at the same time. I have a couple questions though. I have breast implants and I'm worried about what will happen when I lose weight, I'm wondering if anyone else is going through this or has been through this that could give me some input? Also, I'm worried about having sagging skin. Anyone else worried or have any tips? Hope to make some new friends here on this journey. Goo…

How soon can you drive after the surgery? Im having my surgery in Huntington, WV which is an 8 hours drive from home. My surgeon is making me stay 2 extra nights due to me not living within 100 miles. I go in on April 18 and surgery is the 19. I will leave on 23. Unfortunately, the person that volunteered to go with me doesn't drive. Will I be able to make that drive home? Please help!

When I met with my dietitian at my 8 week post op visit and she told me that I would need to eat 1600-1800 calories a day eventually. I wondered how i was going to ever get that much in. Well here it is 10+ months post op and I am probably getting 1500 or so a day in. I am thinking I am at where I should be in weight loss, BMI is still 27 but I am starting to look a bit on the thin side. That being said, I hit goal 6 weeks ago and have lost another 7 lbs since. I am eating 4-6 times a day, 3 meals plus 1-3 good snacks a day. Still following the protein rules and hitting the gym 3-4 times a week. All of my lab work is perfect and I have no health issues at all. Do I worry…

I haven't posted in a while. I was sleeved on Jan 30th 2012 by Dr. Garcia in Mexico. I've lost 60 pounds so far and I've hit many stalls, especially when it is that time of the month. I go up 5-6 pounds and then go back down, never breaking over 60 pounds. my hair is thinning even though I take all of my Vitamins and buy good hair products. I drink a Protein shake every day for Breakfast, but usually eat a small meal for lunch and dinner. I am glad that I am making progress even though I have a long way to go. I need to lose about 140 more pounds to be at a comfortable weight. I know we are all different, but I wonder if I am on target. I wonder if I am the norm. I wil…

OK, so at work the other day I was asked by a co-worker if I've hit the depression stage yet? He said his son had bariatric surgery and he's in a deep depression because he's at a point where he has realized that he cannot be "normal" anymore. I have never heard of this "stage" before and I was curious as to whether it was real or not? I believe that this is something that is possible BUT I also know what I've put myself through by getting this surgery but I know that I will have a new "normal." I felt like this co-worker was trying to set me up for what his son went through. I told him that with each day, I get happier and happier with my progress and I don't see wh…

I was sleeved on March 27, 2012 and im down 66lbs since surgery date... however that is deffinately due to the fact that I barely eat at all. I have tried hard boiled eggs (get about 1/2 of the white down and I'm done), mashed potatoes (can have a spoon full or two), I'll snack on some nuts or apple slices, maybe am able to have 3 or 4 very tiny bites of meat before I have no desire to eat any more... I just drink, I drink a lot of green tea, a little fruit juice, the occasional 4-3 ounces of a protein shake before im sick of it, a little coffee (iced)... oh and i had 2 nachos with cheese for lunch the other day... yes 2 nacho chips dipped in melted cheese. I read all the…

I have had two of the tests so far. I had the psyche consult and that went fine. He sent the eval to barix and said I am an excellent candidate. Last night I had the sleep study test. Slept better than I thought I would! Place was very nice, comfortable and even had a flat screen tv in the room with cable tv. They told me that the only way they will call me is if I do not have any sleep issues and that if I dont hear from them I must go back next Friday night for the test with the cpap machine. I will be surprised if I have sleep apnea, I have never been a snorer and have none of the other typical symptoms. I really hope they call so I don't have to do this again next wee…

I was scheduled for surgery June 25. I got all the way into the operating room, and went into atrial fibrillation. They cancelled my surgery. I was told I needed an echo cardiogram before I could get rescheduled. This, I did, then called to get rescheduled only to learn my surgeon had resigned. I'm telling you, it was really rough. Well, I am having surgery in 2 days by Dr Scott Shikora, the director of bariatric surgery at Brigham & Women's and the former president of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. I think I'll be in good hands. Down 25 pounds from 2 rounds of presurgery diet and raring to go! Do I have any sleeve siblings on Ju…

I was sleeved 06/26/2012 and have had no problems, I have kept my protein intake at the doctors recommendation of 60 and above (most days), i am taking my multi-vitamin, sub-lingual B12 and calcium citrate. I have religiously walked 10,000 steps every day since one week post op. The last 2 weeks I was able to walk 12,000 steps, but as of Monday I am extremely tired, (tired enough to not want to get out of bed) i am really struggling with getting 10,000 steps in. I had stopped taking the unjury protein and was getting most of my protein from eggs, chicken and fish. As of yesterday I started the unjury again and have started to feel slightly better but am not where I would …

Wow I did it! I had my sleeve surgery done on Monday in Mexico! Dr. Ponce is fantastic. His bedside manor is nice and light. I had my surgery at INT hospital. It was clean and the nurses were helpful. I don't feel hungry at all. the only issue I had was nausea. The only pain I have is the drain incision healing. I had no gas pains and I thought my stomach would feel like it had been removed and it doesn't. I'm a lil tired. Im having no problem keeping water, broth or juice down. I'm so excited. I stayed at the Lucerna Hotel and it was extremel nice and comfy. The pool area is beautiful. The bed was so comfy! Trish from WLS was fantastic as I knew she would be. She t…

Hello! Looking for a sleever who is further along than I! This is not hard considering that I have yet to be sleeved! I am still enduring all the testing and meeting of insurance requirements. You: Sleeved and in the process of weight loss, perhaps female, open, and easy to chat/talk/e-amil or text with. A little about me: I am a Mom, wife and college student (almost done!). I am trying to decide if I will enter into my Masters or Doctoral program, but none the less I need to take some time to work on my health and well being! I have done a great deal of reading about the sleeve and I am thrilled to have this option afforded to me. I live in Oregon. Until The…

Hi it's me again with another question. I am type 2 diet controlled diabetic. I am in the process of having the procedure done. I have done all the testing and I see the surgeon again on the 17th of August. I had been following the pre-op diet of 1200 calories a day without any problems and eating about 850-1100 calories a day and exercising one hour 5 to 6 days a week. I had been losing weight. So I saw the surgeon on the 16th of July and he wants me to replace a meal with a Protein shake and stick to a 1000 calories a day. Now the protein shake is 300 cal. so that leaves me with 700 cal for the other two meals. But for some reason when I drink the shake in…

During the past 6 months as I have been meeting with the doctor to fill out progress notes I also have been keeping a food diary which started through FitnessPal.com (a great site) and then Fitbit (a neat little device; pedometer being one of its features,) that I won through Dr. Oz. I have to say I think it was during the 2nd month of this process that I was able to lose 7 pounds in one month by just keeping the food diary with Fitness Pal. It's a great site, I input all my information, height, weight, activity level, water intake, etc, and I opted for a regimen that would allow me to lose a pound per week. For me, that was 1500 calories a day. I followed it pretty…

I've only had my surgery shy of 2 months ago so I'm still dealing with my food addiction and will be for quite some time as I have a lot of weight to lose. I did read that many successful weight loss people develop substitution addictions. I can easily see myself having to resist becoming a shop-a-holic and will probably have to use a lot of restraint to stop myself from buying too much. Wearing cute clothes in small sizes is something I always wanted to do but never could. Has anyone suffered from this? Anyone worried about it?

Hello Everyone! I have really enjoyed reading and learning about VSG on this site! Super helpful and encouraging! I am hoping and planning to have surgery in November, probably the week I am out for Thanksgiving break. This is also my 1st Anniversary, my husband is being such an amazing sport and huge encouragement! I had hoped to have my insurance cover my surgery at a local hospital, however, since filling out the paperwork I have been told that my insurance won't cover "elective surgeries" without it being medically necessary. 1st question- has anyone been able to prove the surgery was medically necessary? I have PCOS, high blood pressure, and asthma. I can…

This was a few times/ day for a couple days. Then I had yellow mucus come out in a big clump. This happened twice yesterday. Was like nose boogers. I tried miralax, still nothing. Hello everyone, I would love to start a group (or join one if I am somehow missing it) for pre-sleevers and post ones in Fort Worth or near it. I am looking for workout buddies too (I normally workout at the Ryan YMCA (near McCart and Sycamore School Road but we might be able to workout at other places). I am planning to have my sleeve surgery in May! But I would like to find a good workout routine before then. Maybe we can also sometimes meet for lunch, movie or just nice conversations? I am currently in the process of researching the band to sleeve revision surgery and am concerned about reflux and it's effects. I have watched many videos featuring interviews with sleeve recipients. In the majority of the videos it appears to me that the majority of the patients have unusual swallowing reflexes, awkwardly pausing while speaking to swallow, cough, or clear the throat. It could just be my eyes playing tricks on me..but I'm wondering if it could be a result of acid reflux? Has anyone noticed or experienced this?

I had my apt today and we removed some fluid and I am to stay on liquids through the weekend and start solids on monday and see how it goes. I mentioned the sleeve to Dr, and her response was "have you talked your insurance company"...in which I haven't. (thinking that's a bad sign).......She then said we should see how the next few months go and in that same time we would be "building our case for the insurance company". Correct me if I am wrong but a slipped band (never confirmed by xray), years of throwing up, and just the general inconsisitancy of the band arent enough?? There are days when food goes decent, there are days when things are too tight to even try, days w…

Hello every one! This is my very first post on this forum and is definitely the hardest one for me to write. I am just starting on my bariatric surgery preparations, expect surgery in late Oct- early November... and I am very excited to finally be taking this step. The timing is working out both wonderfully and horribly for me. Wonderfully because this year both of my boys will be in school and I have cut back on my volunteering so that I have a lot of time to devote to my health and lifestyle changes. Horribly because we are a military family and my husband will be deployed just before the time of the surgery and throughout the majority of the first year. He's not…
