  1. Started by Amie,

I met with my surgeon this morning and found out I get to have surgery on Aug. 15 and I have to start my skim milk diet on Aug. 1 I really didn't think it would happen this soon. I have had to do the whole 6 month doctor suppervised diet. It's is just hitting my all at once that I start my new life in a few days. I'm so nervous and scared. I know I'm making the right decision I just hope I don't fail in the long run. I was suppose to leave for a trip to Vegas on Aug. 15 but it looks like I'll have to cancel the flight hope they give me some kind of credit. I didn't want anything in my life to be more important then this. I can go back to Vegas later. Wish me luck. Thanks …

  2. I'm so frustrated with myself and disgusted with my body!! I know I'm not supposed to compare my journey with others, but I can't help myself. My sister in law had her surgery 6 weeks before I had mine. She is already below her goal. I am almost 7 months out and I am at a measley 56 lbs. I am so upset and frustrated that I can't even be around her at family get togethers any more because I feel like such a failure. I know I have to get back to working out (I got down on myself, and stopped working out about 3 weeks ago). I just want to cry. Granted, her BMI was MUCH higher than mine at the time of surgery, and I know that things move slower for those of us with lower BMIs…

Good day all. I'm going in on July 31, 2012 and am excited to share the experience with you. Does anyone have kids that they have had to explain why they no longer are eating food, but just drinking what my kids call milkshakes at meal time. I have having difficulty explaining why Mummy cooks dinner, but won't eat the salmon. I have tried the approach that Mummy's tummy hurts and it makes it feel better, but its not working.

Just noticed that the thirties forum isn't used very often. I would love to get to know more people here. I am a 31 year old female that is preparing for surgery. I don't have a date yet, but just finished my last step so it should be soon. I have a 7 year old son and am concerned as to how he is going to react to the surgery. Do any of you have young children? How did they handle it?

  9. Started by Ymabme,

I am excited and nervous to have my sleeve on Friday. Im so glad to be done with my pre-op diet, but super proud of myself for how well I've done. It really gives my confidence as I get ready to embark on this journey. I had a bit of a strange experience today. So, not only am I a bariatric patient, but I'm also the administrator of a surgery department which includes a bariatric surgery program. Essentially, the program coordinator and nurses are my employees, and I work very closely with my surgeon on program development, operations, and marketing. One of the reasons I'm having this surgery is because I have spent 20% of my professional life over the last two ye…

  10. Did great pre-op and immediately post-op (first 2 weeks on full liquids). Down about 30 lb. Since starting on puréed diet a week and a half ago, I have lost less than a pound- has anyone else experienced this kind of plateau? I'm following the prescribed diet faithfully, but am really getting frustrated. I am exercising by walking 3 miles a day + going to the gym 3 days a week, but still nothing is happening. I was doing so great and was very excited about my decision to have the surgery, but my entusiasm is waning fast. Help!

  13. For the women who had perky, close to perky breasts naturally or after a deduction especially, did you lose volume as well as go down a size? I'm eyeballing a boob job but not sure if I want to wait until near goal, but still want to have some breast when at goal.

My surgery was on may 29. A week after I came home, I was nauseated by the smell of my protein drinks and chewing my vit. I have tried to get this back in but I end up taking a nausea pill it gets so bad. Anyone have ideas of how I can get all my protein and vit in? I am almost 8 wks out. I can eat about 4 meals a day with 4 bites of food of its solid and a few more if it soup based but I am not even coming close to 60g of protein. Please help:(

  19. Just curious if you told them your weight. I go for first meeting with surgeon next week...(finished with all preliminaries, after appt they submit to insurance). Anyway, while ago i received a computerized message confirming my appt, and it said ," remember to bring your support person". Huh? First i've heard of that!! And of course the ofc is closed now so i can't call them. I suppose my "support person" is my husband, and i'm quietly hyperventilating at the idea of him walking back there with me and seeing the number on the scale!!!! Eeeeeek!

Read that some fellow sleevers have stretched their sleeves by eating too fast or too much. I know that curbing your intake on a regular stomach can shrink it. Do you think we can shrink our sleeves back down to the size they are supposed to be by eating a bit less? Just worried I've stretched my sleeve because I can eat more than I've read that others can at the same stage of post-op and I don't want to hinder my weight loss.

I'm in a bit of a funk this morning, I start my liquid diet tomorrow as my surgery is 8/1 and I feel as if I'm having to break up with a boyfriend. I've had what i call my "food bucket list" of all the things and places I wanted to eat before I started my diet and I have at most all of it but I still feel sad. I know what I am feeling is probably normal and it doesn't help that TOM is right around the corner. I knew I was going to have a more difficult time before surgery since I wouls be PMSing but there was NO way I was going to reschedule. I few rough days will be a small price to pay for the joy I will soon have. I can't wait to be on the loser's bench. I also wan…

I am attending a seminar at Sharp Grossmont in a couple days and, although the seminar will be the first formal presentation of wls information, I've already decided that I want the VSG. I'm sure I'll be posting more after I attend this seminar and jump through the inevitable insurance hoops, but I at least wanted to say hi. SR

  29. Hi Everyone, Has anyonw read The Weight Loss Surgery Coping Companion - A Practical Guide for Coping with Post-Surgery Emotions? Feedback? I am worried about how to "cope" with the emotions and feelings I may have after surgery when I do this in 10 days! Any input would be great. Thank you!

So now that my H Pylori is cleared and its time to submit today, NOW the admin person that submits the paperwork calls and tells me that I might not get approved because my insurance is a difficult insurance and I have no comorbidities . Mind you this is month six, my clearance letter with all my stats was handed to her since the 5th of this month. Keep in mind I am 150lbs heavier than my ideal weight. She had at least two in a half weeks to look at my file and see if I did or didnt and if that would matter. Keep in mind I qualified according to the documentation they gave me six months ago. There was nothing indicating anything else. So if I was 500 lbs with no comor…

I take Metamucil pills and stool softener everyday but it's been about 5 days I think since the last time I pooped. Been drinking drinks with Miralax all day today. Yesterday I had to poo but only a tiny bit came out. I was in pain all night with horrible poop cramps, so much that I was being woken up from sleep and in tears. I took some IBS medicine and that allowed me to sleep. I thought for sure something would come out today. I'm starting to worry. I don't want to eat anything else until something comes out...?

Who else cannot WAIT for this summer?! The past few weeks have been dragging by for me, waiting for school to get out and to have my surgery. I'm not having it until July 10th because I'm going on a family vacation, and then I'm taking a graduate course for two weeks after. But I am aching for summer to get here! Hopefully this will be the summer of our lives =) I also keep wondering how much I'll have lost by the time we go back in August. I wonder if my kids will notice a difference by then... Next year should be an interesting year for us!

I am having a hard time with my significant other not trying to understand what I am going through. Firstly, he has no problem telling me he is going to eat hot dogs for dinner every day since I am not eating dinner with him. I feel like he is looking for a reaction, and the thing is- he's over weight too! Only by like 20 pounds, but you can tell. Another thing is, we made a deal that I would lose weight and he would quit smoking. Well I made the ultimate commitment to losing weight, and he went off his zyban because he doesn't want to continue trying. I am just at a loss, and don't feel like after 5 years he gets me any more than he did the day we met... I realize this…

I am two weeks away from my surgery date (Jul 16), and I've just woken up at 2am in full panic mode....what if I die, what if I'm sick for the rest of my life, what if I don't lose the weight....then I think what if I don't go through with it - and I die or I'm sick for the rest of my life and I don't lose the weight....all week I've been excited, and now I feel trapped and scared, I feel like a crazy person right now! How did everyone out there deal with per-surgery anxiety, any tips? Right now I'm sitting with the tv on trying to avoid the kitchen where my old anti anxiety meds are (aka FOOD).

Just trying to decide what program to pursue for this 6 month BCBS hurdle! As you know money is an issue! Got to try to do something covered by insurance if I can!

  49. Just curious if any of you gals know of any cases where someone was actually turned down after completing the 6 month diet? Went to seminar at St Vincents East saturday that was conducted by Dr. Miles. I asked him if they made you do this to proove you can in order to turn you down and he quickly answered a resounding no! He said "don't get me started"! He obviously thinks it is ridiculous that they put us through that.
