Hello everyone, I have lost my motivation. I almost feel like I don't care, but I do. otherwise I wouldn't be on here. LOL I think I have been very successful. I have lost 100 pounds since surgery. I am healthy and no longer in physical pain. I still have 20 more pounds to go. I really want to get there, but when I am about to put unhealthy food in my mouth I tell myself that it is ok this time and that next time I will pass. And the passing hasn't happened. I haven't lost weight in over 2 months. My biggest problem is snacking! I am a stay at home mom with 2 young children. It can be stressful at times and they have 3 snacks a day, which I have been having with t…

Sorry, but I just had to vent tonight. I'm sick of feeling like a patient still. I am a month out, as of yesterday. (I know that's technically still early, but it seems like forever). I have a persistent sharp pain in my lower belly, starting from my bellybutton stitch and going upward and right to about midbelly. When I asked my surgeon about it, he said it just had to heal, and that the cuts in the abdominal area are deep, and since that's the muscle I use to stand, move, etc...it will take a long time, and a scan really won't reveal much. I just have to wait it out. It sucks. I'm tired of eating pureed food. I'm supposed to be eating it for another week. I…

Hi All, I just got sleeved in Mexico on June 25, so I am one week post op at this point and feeling pretty good. I have had a pretty great surgery experience and thanksfully no post op complications. I am following all the surgeons direction to the letter and I have had pretty good success so far... down 10.6 pounds in 7 days. Anyways my question for all you experienced sleevers out there are about finding the right support after surgery for success... Because I wasn't sleeved in Canada, I don't have a sugical support group for phycologists and nutritionists. I can access them privately now that I'm home, but I'm wondering if you've found these resources helpful a…

I am 9 days post op and my daughter has a softball tournament out of town this weekend. It is the first one since my surgery. In the past, we would snack the whole weekend. My family still is. We have only been in the hotel for an hour and I don't think my husband has put down the Snacks. We even stopped at Buccees on the way here and got my favorite beaver nuggets. I don't want to sabatoge my progress, but it is so hard to sit here while they are all snacking. Any encouragement / advice would be helpful. Thank you!

I hope I ll be able to go to work after 2 weeks. Please say a prayer for a speedy recovery and peace of mind.. Thank you all

Hello! I'm a pre-op female in her late 20s. I'm 5'9" and almost 300 lb. Married, no kids. I'm doing the self-pay route (in USA) because my insurance won't cover, regardless of medical necessity. I'm looking at the late March/early April 2012 timeframe for surgery but haven't set a date yet. I'd really like to find a female pre-op WLS Buddy to be able to text or email with for support. Even better if your surgery is in the US since we'll have similar pre-surgery appointments & follow-ups. Thanks!

  12. Please excuse the bold language! I have a question for the woman...sorry fellas I have a love hate relationship with my breast. when I was a teen I went to sleep and woke up in a D cup, now 11 yrs later I am in a 38jj. Whenever I lost weight prior my boobs barely changed. I would LOVE for them to go down during this transition but I still want something (my trademark) what are some of the changes some of you noticed when the weight started to come off? My fears are I will be 160 lbs w/ JJs or 160 lbs w/ As...ideally I would like to be 160 lbs w/ Ds or DDs...but realistically I know time will only tell...thought it would be an,interesting topic!

It may not be new, but it's tasty. Any ingredients that sound strange to you can be found in your local Asian grocer or most large mega marts. Here's what you need: 1 fillet of white fish (cod, whitefish, etc. - any white meat fish) - 4 oz. 1 sandwich bag with zipper top Marinade: 3 Tbls. Shoyu (soy sauce) 2 Tbls. mirin (sweet cooking wine) 1 Tsp. minced garlic 1 Tsp. minced fresh ginger 1 Tsp. onion powder 1 Tsp. Sriracha sauce (or other hot sauce, if preferred) Combine all ingr…

My name is Melanie, I just received insurance approval last week and am anxiously awaiting to hear the date of my surgery. I am just praying for peace of mind leading up to my surgery. My greatest fear is that I will leave my one year old son without a mother.... But I try to just stay positive and focused on how much better our life can be once I am healthier in mind, body, and soul! God bless!

I am new to this group and when I got home from the hospital I really felt compelled to share my patient /doctor story in case there was anyone who was still undecided or still looking for the right doctor. I am a Christian. My faith was not anything that came up or was discussed in my two pre op appointments between me and the doctor. I turn 40 in six days. I had my sleeve done 5 days ago. While I was in the hospital, my dentist's office called and asked me if I could come in. I have been working with him for a while on some teeth issues, and I was supposed to have some kind of device to wear for six months to fix a problem. There has been problems getting a lab to make the device, so it hasn't happened yet. He wanted to meet with me to talk about my options. It turns out, he had consulted about my case with an orthodontist. He found out that I can fix my concern and fix some minor spacing problems I have in about 18 months if I have braces instead. Braces. At 40. Plus massive weight loss? It i…

  30. So, yesterday was my first major test since starting my pre-op diet and I failed. I waited too long in between meals and when everyone sat down to dinner I helped myself to three chicken tacos. I am supposed to be on shakes, bars, and veggies. My nutritionist has allowed me to have a chicken breast here and there, but the tacos were completely overboard! To make matters worse I was mentally flogging myself so much that I got home from the in-laws and devored 3 spoons of Peanut Butter while I was feeling sorry for myself. I am most worried about sabatoge post surgery. I know that when life becomes overwhelming, I eat. What can I work on in the next two weeks to me…

So I called today to confirm how much it is going to cost me since I will be self paid. I left a message with the insurance/money person at the surgon that I had chosen. I got a call back from her and she told me that the hospital is no longer doing barbaric surgery so the surgon will no longer be doing was either. Really this is my preferred hospital. One of the reasons I choose this doctor was she was a female and I thought she would be more understanding with women and body image ( just my thought not that that would be true but..). 36. Hi all. This is my 2nd post...yay!!! OK, I've read posts where people claim that, for the most part, bougie size doesn't matter. However, I wonder if that is still true for a patient with over 200lbs to lose? I've searched this forum to find people with over 200+ lbs to lose, but not many people list what bougie size was used on them. I am wondering if their success was at least in part due to bougie size. Here's my personal dilemma: I am about 99% sure of the surgeon I want to use for my upcoming VSG. He uses 36 fr and oversews (Dr. Ramos-Kelly). However, there is a user on here who's lost well over 200 lbs that went to Dr. Almanza, who uses 32 fr. So I started wo…

I am however really struggling to eat - I am just not hungry and 4 bites of food and I am done. This is causing me a whole host of problems not least of which is I am now officially a freaky eater. The thing that is REALLY upsetting me is that my hair is falling out. Not a little bit of hair - I am talking about handfuls of hair. Even the hairdresser asked me whether I am sick. So pretty please could someone help me - I don't know what to do but there must be something. Thanks very much in advance for your advice. …

Hi Everyone! Has anyone had their surgery at the Washington Hospital Center? If so, I'm curious to find out what it was like. I've heard each doctor & facility is different regarding treatment. I'm more so concerned with: 1. whether or not you woke up with a tube down your throat; 2. What kind of pain medication were you given? I've heard of people being connected to a morphine pump or receiving pain meds via injection through the abdomen; and 3. What is the story with some sort of drainage tube I'm hearing of? Some people speak of it and others do not. What exactly is it and does everyone have that done? Thanks for your help!

Ok however he said if when he went in and removed th band if the foil didn't peel off then I wouldn't be able to get the sleeve. That at a later time I could get bypass. Told him I didn't want bypass. So now everything is set I was given a date of aug. 23 to remove band and get sleeve provideing all is good inside. So now I feel how can I be happy and there's a chance I might wake up and have no sleeve. He said if the film doesn't peel. Off easy and it has to be forced he can bet id get a leak and he doesn't want that nor do I. I just feel unhappy. So all I can do is pray. Every1 say a prayer for me…

I am wondering which will be the best after surgery. On one hand you have the recovery house which will tend to every need you have, feed you IF you can drink anything, give you plenty of meds to ease your pain, however, I really worry about the comfort of the guest I will be taking. They also say the recovery house can be crowded and loud at times too. The hotel is the other option....ahhhh....peace and serinity for recovery but no nurses by your side and I think you may have to load up and travel back and forth to the recovery house twice daily for meds. Can anyone offer advise on this?

  43. Well it's over...I had my surgery on July 2nd. It was not that bad...thank God! I had some bouts with nauseau but overall the pain and uncomfort has been bearable. I am more concerned with the after effects and how to deal with the questions on how I lost weight. I am not one to broadcast my business so this makes things a little uncomfortable for me...any suggestions???

I am 50 years old, have struggled with my weight all my life, which sounds like I definitely SHOULD get it done. BUT, I have learned a lot about nutrition these last few years, and especially the last six months. My all-time peak weight was 330 and I currently weigh 260. I watched my weight slowly drift up to 320 until 2002, lost 50 lbs in two years, watched it drift up to 330 again until 2009, and then lost 60 lbs.the following year After that it drifted back up to about 295 by February of this year, when I started on this journey.
