Recommended Posts

Do you think the risk of complications is higher in mexico?

For those who went or considerered it, was personal safety in mexico a concern?

I'm going to Tijuana, Mexico to Dr. Kelly on August 23rd. I think if you search your doctors and their previous patients, everything will be great! All his patients on here speak highly, and I liked him when I spoke with him.

I will be honest...the only thing that does concern me is aftercare. I wish I could do USA just for that reason. Other than that, I can't wait for my date!!

all I know is the US side. I will say that after I was released from the hospital after 2 days I never went back to the surgeon again. (im so bad) I have had follow up labs with my primary doc though. so as far as after care--I didnt need any. good luck!

The Mexican surgeons have more experience than the US surgeons, in general, when it comes to WLS. I was sleeved by Dr. Kelly and would do it 1000 times over again. This was my first surgery so I can't compare it to anything, but I had no pain and only nausea for one night. Of course I was worried about the possibility of having a complication once I got back, but I didn't. I stuck to the prescribed diet and let my new stomach heal. Worrying about a complication is normal where ever you have your surgery though.

I had several friends get sleeved in Mexico and for some reason they seem to have lost weight faster? Is there something that the surgeons do In Mexico vs. the US doctors? I had one girl tell me that some Dr.'s tighten the sleeve more than others, I'm confussed?

I'm not sure if they do anything different but my surgeon did stitch over the staple line. Maybe that makes it tighter by reinforcing it?

I was sleeved June 14th in Mexico by Dr. Kelly and I can't recommend him highly enough. Personal safety was never a concern. For example, Omar (his assistant) was taking us out to lunch across the street from the hotel and I was headachy, so I wanted to go back to nap. He wouldn't even let me cross the street myself, he insisted on walking me back.

Dr. Kelly is a wonderfully skilled surgeon and a very kind man as well. He makes you feel like you are part of his family. I have been in contact with both him and Omar since I have been home with questions and they both are great still.

I was fortunate not only to be able to afford US care, but had a very skilled surgeon as well. . . I had no real complications like what I've read about only some minor problems with malabsorption. . . that is easy to live with. . .otherwise I live "normally" as to my standard.

The topic had been brought up when I was anticipating getting surgery, but my hubbie and I both decided that I'd stay in the US just because of the aftercare. . .but from what I've heard and read, the Mexico doctors aren't that bad at all. . .

Dr. Jaime Ricardo Ramos Kelly

619-395-5347

info@wlsclinic.com

Call that number and you will get Omar, or send a text or email. He will get back to you. Have some questions prepared, he will have the Dr. call you back.

I paid with a cashier's check in the amount of $5500.

Good luck!

You are starting at a much lower weight, you are not gonna see the dramatic loosest hat are seen in higher BMI patients. The scale is moving in the right direction. Whoo hoo, that's something to celebrate!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
