thinmymind got a reaction from vssupermodel in Plication With A Low BmiWell, around these parts, forgive us for all being partial to the vertical sleeve. It is a vertical sleeve forum and all. I wish you the best with your surgery and I hope you find support here no matter what type you get!

thinmymind got a reaction from Texarkolina in I Feel GuiltyI do feel guilty sometimes, but I'll get over it, I guess. I also do what traceyinflorida does, I tip extra - as though I have ordered a meal.

thinmymind got a reaction from goofycathy in Dr Kelly, What Hospital? You will do great - good luck! Don't be shy about asking for pain meds tonight. Ask for the one they shoot in your upper arm not the iv if you are in pain. That's what I needed, but only the one time. Really had minimal pain after that. Never even took my pills after leaving the hospital.

thinmymind reacted to detor60 in Dr Kelly, What Hospital?I am sitting here waiting for my surgery by Dr Kelly. In about three hour I will be sleeved. My husband came with me and Omar just took him to see the area (markets, 7eleven coffee places). Just wishing it was over already.

thinmymind got a reaction from SophieJaneB in Honesty Vs. Lying About The SurgeryEveryone I know is used to my crazy dieting. Last year, I did 12 weeks of a liquid diet, so me doing liquids now post op is not raising eyebrows. The only thing that will raise eyebrows is that it is finally working.

thinmymind got a reaction from MinaT in Having Issues Drinking WaterTry tea. Sometimes, especially in the beginning, it is much easier to get in warmer liquids. That gas feeling will eventually go away, for me it was about 3 weeks. Walking is about the only thing to help with that. Peppermint or ginger tea are both really great for soothing tummies.

thinmymind got a reaction from goofycathy in What Doctor?A big vote for Dr. Kelly!
I just felt immediately comfortable with him when we initially spoke on the phone.

thinmymind reacted to tiffers in Dominoes Thin Crust Pizza?I know we've never met, so please forgive my frankness, but this is a horrible idea. When you hit 6 months, treat yourself to new clothes! Even if I didn't have the money, I would go try on smaller sizes and it felt great! I'm not saying I've never eaten one bad thing, and I don't stray from my healthy eating at times (like yesterday when i had to have some ice cream. I live in Texas, and its summer!) but I do not recommend treating/rewarding with food. Last week I had to have a pediatric blood pressure cuff used on my arm b/c I'm "so tiny!" That was way better than pizza!!!!

thinmymind reacted to cissiesue in Have Doubts? Dont Dr Kelly Is AmazingYou need to talk to your pcp about aftercare. It will mostly consist of a blood panel every 3-4 months for the first year. If your pcp has an issue caring for you, drop them and go elsewhere, but in the meantime, you can go into any wslk in clinic to have labs run. Im ten years older than you and have children in grade school, I understand your/her concerns, but honestly, you have chosrn a phenomenal surgeon, and unless you have some major health problems, or have sn extra high bmi, you will do great! But Dr k eill do surgery on patients other drs won't touch. Hes incredible!

thinmymind reacted to cissiesue in Have Doubts? Dont Dr Kelly Is AmazingTell mom that Dr k does 3 leak tests, 2 in surgery, and one 48hrs later. Also, you can tell her that the main complication is a leak, and Dr k hasnt had one in years! He also sews the fundis(sp) onto the sleeve over the area that usually is thr most prone to a leak. Tell her that Dr K is a fellow in the prestigious American College of Surgeons (FACS) and that he has been a bariatric surgeon 2x as long as most American surgeons performing the sleeve. he also belongs to the American bariatric association. He also graduated from college magna cum lade (sp) (with honors) So, in essence you are choosing an higher American standard of surgeon with a Mexico price! I believe he is extremely gifted, kind, and skilled

thinmymind got a reaction from Slimming_n_phx in Dr. Kelly?I hope this comes across in the way it is intended. I am not gifted when it comes to writing.
And no one could think more highly of Omar than I do (well, probably a lot of you probably feel the same). But Omar is the Dr.'s assistant, he does not directly provide medical care. I bet with all of the running around he did, he still checked on the patients still in the hospital. But, really, what is he going to do for you in the hospital? Yes, he can contact the Dr. if need be, but you are in the hospital, there is always a Dr. there. We had a lovely young woman Dr. there while I was there and she and I had lovely lengthy conversations.
He is also just a phone call away.
While we were there, we did want to run around and see things, but patient needs were always first. He would say, I have to stop by the hospital for someone for example or take someone for their leak test, then he would tell us when he was available to take us sightseeing.

thinmymind reacted to Finding Myself in Dr. Kelly?I've told people repeatedly on here.... don't get pulled into the thought process of this being anything BUT major surgery. Do not worry about coordinators, family members, or whatever.... worry about Dr. Kelly. He is ultimately the only one who matters. I can promise you all... as they were wheeling me down the hallway to the OR, all I cared about were the people in that surgical suite.
I concur with Cissie, and while not everyone is going to have a super stellar experience, at least see how you recover first... because that ultimately is all that DOES matter. 9 of us were there in the same week and we are all just doing so well. No skin infections, no complications, etc. THAT IS WHAT MATTERS.
Bringing a lot of family members is great for you, and a good support system - but yes I'd rec. they stay at the hotel and rent a car. It CAN be a mini vacation for them, but it won't be for you. My husband was with me the whole time, except for when he'd walk out of the hospital to go get some good food! We really didn't want Omar focusing on anyone but ME.
I don't think anybody should be bashed, or whatever, and I think all patients should care ONLY about the quality of the medicine. Nothing else really matters.

thinmymind got a reaction from goofycathy in Have Doubts? Dont Dr Kelly Is AmazingI was sleeved by Dr. Kelly last month. I flew into San Diego the day before my surgery. Dr. Kelly's wife, Cece picked me up at the airport and took me to the hospital. I stayed in the hospital the night before and the two nights after surgery. Then I spent two nights in the hotel. I actually had a great time! We saw Dr. Kelly usually twice a day, so he is always available to talk to. He took us out to dinner on Saturday night with his family (broth for us!)
I can't recommend him highly enough.

thinmymind reacted to heatherinoregon in Have Doubts? Dont Dr Kelly Is AmazingJust returned from a life changing experience. Dr kelly is an amazing caring and very dedicated doctor. He went well above any dr in the us. He fixed a horrible lap band issue, scar tissue and more. I had my sleeve july 4th, and the entire experience was a plus. Omar, is a kind, caring, hard working man who does more than anyone I've met. He took care of my fears and doubts. I went alone, and the team was there for me. Dr kelly and his family drove me to san diego tonight, and what a amazing conversation and person he is. You will NOT be disappointed
