I realize what you actually need/use will depend on where your procedure is done, clinic, hospital, USA or Mexico and how long you anticipated being away from home. I read the post here on what the "Must Haves" were and loaded my tote with almost all of the. Other than the usual things, toothbrush, toothpaste, comb/brush. I only used a fraction of the things I hauled to the hospital with me. Things I actually used pajama pants, avoided the need for a robe or extra gown for hiking the halls. cell phone and charger. gas x total of 2 strips used in the hospital biotene spray. for dry mouth. a life saver. Travel pillow U shaped cloud type pillow. I also bou…

HI guys! Wanted to post this here...I have a tentative date for my band to sleeve surgery--September 5. My insurance requires a 90 day supervised program that I just finished the first 1/3 of. That will be done in EArly August, which will give me a month to get the insurance OK. If it all goes as hoped, I will have sx on September 5. I have a 2.5 week break from grad school then, so I am hoping that everything works as scheduled. Looking forward to talking with my fellow monthlies as time gets closer...anyone else doing band to sleeve at that time?

This is my first topic, although I have been lurking for about a year. I was finally approved and am scheduled for July 27th. Now to my petty issue....and it is pretty petty....but this might be the place for it. I have only told a few of my co workers about my surgery, basically those that are on a "need to know" basis. One of my fellow co-workers decided to spill the Beans...and now it seems everyone is in the know. Let me be clear....I am not hiding the fact that I am getting WLS, wouldn't think of pulling a Star Jones, but aren't I enititled divulge my personal, medical conditions on my own terms? When I made my feelings known I was told to "get over it becau…

I have a couple of questions and I think I'm prepared with all the collective knowledge here; yet, I keep wondering g if I'm asking the most effective questions to help me manage next week. What kind of questions did you have at this last appointment? Anything you wish you'd asked pre-op? Thanks for the support! life is a journey, not a destination; so, stop running -H.D. THEROUX

Hi I am new, first post actually and I have been going through a lot of information on this site but I have a question that I have not really seen the answer for-trying not to be too repetitive. Those of you that have had leaks from the gastric sleeve surgery: how did you know? how did it feel? I am assuming you had to go back in for surgery to remedy the problem? That is my only worry about my upcoming surgery and although I can see it is not common, I'm still worried. Thank you soooo much for your time, in advance.

Hi everyone. I have been having a rough month. My father is in the hospital , slowly dying and it is really hitting me hard. He has congestive heart failure and really bad lungs from smoking and asbestos. He is getting close to the end and I feel so bad cause there is nothing I can do. I talked to him today on the phone ( I am in California, he is in Oregon) and he told me his liver is starting to shut down and was crying, which made me lose it too. I drank a whole bottle of wine last night, I know that doesnt help but at least I was relaxed a bit. I dont want to fall of the wagon since I am doing so good with my weight loss so I am turning to you all for support…

  11. My question is what's the point? There's not even any part of the burger worth calling it a burger anymore and who could even think about eating that much cheese. Just disgusting. I have a lot of heart burn - don't want to take pills for the rest of my life...not for that. I'm just thinking that maybe it's not for me. I've been reading the posts of revisions to the sleeve but I don't know where to go?? I would like to have a Dr that has done many revisions. I also read that you might be lactose intolerant after the sleeve because the part of the stomach that is being removed?? Just nervous. Does any one know if insurance would approve if your at 190lbs. Hello there...I am new to this forum. Back in 2008, I had the lapband procedure. Four years later and it hasn't been all that great of a success. Yes, I lost some weight, but it's been a struggle. Within the last year I began experiencing issues and am at the point where frustration has set in. I went back to my surgeon in early June and he removed all my restriction to allow some time to heal from what may be a mild slip. We discussed the possibility of removing the band and having the gastric sleeve. I have completed jumping through hoops to get all the pre-op tests done and am now waiting to hear if my insurance will cover the revision which is causing me slight anxiet…

  17. Here's a few questions. Answer based on your own experience. I'm just curious, really 1. For the most part, the process to becoming sleeved isn't always an easy one. Insurance throws us hoops and loops and then we're sometimes asked for a 6 month diet or weigh in, and a ton of various dr. appointments we need to fit into our busy schedules. My question is...during that long process that seemed like it'd take forever, what convinced you to be patient and hold it out? Knowing that even after you completed all the requirements, insurance could still deny you, what kept you going? 2. If gastric sleeve surgery was completely out of the question...you couldn't self-pay, c…

I over did it and ate a little too much and let me tell you what... my body revolted! I got a tightness in my stomach, that feeling in my throat like i was going to throw up, a chill came over me, and I felt like i was breaking out into a sweat. I NEVER want to experience that feeling again! Is that what they consider dumping?

My close friend said "its just not natual" (like being obese is). And my sister (always thin) said she didnt expect it to be so soon and she has to find a new eating partner. My bff (who has had lap band....FAIL) is the only really supportive person b/c she is planning for the rny. BTW..... my boyfriend thinks im having gallbladder surgery. He's super fit and i just couldnt tell him b/c he's super fit never been fat and believes the gym solves everything. Any advice??

She said that the staple line can rupture anytime and when these people come in it is usually fatal. So now i am freaking out. I am only 37 and dont want to …

Hi Everyone! I went to an informational seminar last week sure that I wanted to do gastric bypass. After hearing the horrors of dumping syndrome, I'm thinking the sleeve is a better option. I've done a lot of research but just want to make sure I make the right choice. I realize it's different for everyone, but your opinions are appreciated. Questions: can you get dumping syndrome with the sleeve as well? I realize there's not a lot of long term data available, but did any of you have concerns about the lack of info on long term…

Though I know I want and need to do this the voices in the back of my head questioning the reasoning came down on me like a ton of bricks! B@stards! I actually went into the office just to keep myself busy. I usually swim but it's storming pretty good. Anyway I think I'm 20 lbs down from the pre-op diet. I have no desire to have a scale, when I feel good I'll be cool with it no matter the number. Though my goal is to get to one hundred something! I'll keep you all posted. Hello everyone! I am planning on going to Mexico in mid-August. I'm very excited and can’t wait to lose this weight. I'm 5'9 303 lbs. and a size 22. I speak fluent Spanish as my family is Dominican so I have no worries with communication. I have family that have been to DR for surgery so I'm familiar with "3rd world country" medical facilities. My goal is to get down to 150 lbs... So basically 1/2 my sizes then depending on how I look after the weight loss I plan to get a full body makeover if needed. I live in south FL so if anyone in my area is going to be having this done around the same time I’m looking for a sleeve buddy... Thanks for reading my post! Hugs

Has everyone out there had to go through a apnea study? I just found out today it is one of my requirements. I know at least 20 people that have had this done over the years and were told that they had sleep apnea and talked into a c-pap machine that sits in there closet. They always try it out and either they can't wear it or it comes off in the middle of the night. I really do not want to have to do this and spend the money that it requires. I think it is a big rip off. I was told that wls is elective and that is why. I have had other surgeries in my life that were elective and never was forced to to this. Any advise?

The only thing still bothering me is the incision pain. Does anyone know of any way to soothe that? I really cant get any sleep because of it and its killing my back and left side.
