  4. Since surgery in February, I've experienced a marked increase in my migraine activity. I was down to about one or two a year, and since surgery, I've had 5 or 6. I have one right now, which is what made me remember to ask. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm wondering if it's surgery related, or just me. I know this isn't a very scientific method of getting a true answer, but I'm just wondering what, if anything, you all have experienced.

This is currently my daily motivation. The dotted line is the projected weight loss progress someone without VSG would probably have if they were dieting and working out. The solid line is my actual progress. I've got to say, im very happy. There are you few setbacks however, such as the other day I only lost 0.3 lbs and since yesterday I lost 1.2 lbs. i know im not supposed to weight myself everyday but im an inpatient person. Im still on liquids so im excited to see how ill progress once i can have soft foods bc im sorry, Protein shakes are disgusting and i love fish, mostly sashimi. Also, I bought a hot pink sketchbook and put pictures of HEALTHY bodies from workout m…

Hi, I am looking for local Charlotte folks that would like to start a support group or would like to get together to walk and talk. I am 11 days post-op as of today, 8/11/12. I am just looking for others like me that are trying to get their health back on track.

In 3 months we have experienced such a drastic change in our bodies and the way we live now. Happy SURGIversary! I have lost 50 lbs since day of surg and I feel great! Been going to the gym 2-4 times per week and I am amazed at my energy level. Some days are better than others gettin all my proteins in, but overall I feel I am doing good. I never stress over having a few bites of cake or something "bad" because this is a journey not a sprint.. If I deprive myself of a craving then I don't stop thinking about it .. But I'm amazed at how I don't really *crave* anything other than what is good for me! Still the best decision ever (next to becoming a wife & mom, of…

I have had my band for 5 years tomorrow. It has been a love hate relationship (mostly hate). I was curious as to what I might expect in the way of recovery. Will it be easier, same or harder getting the band out then in? Thanks, Teresa

What are your thoughts to the above question? Also, my nutritionist said she has sleeve patients who are a year out and who have only lost 15 pounds (she says that they choose all the wrong foods). Do you believe her?

  12. I want to know how many packs/servings where you able to get down per day for the first week after surgery? I got my sample packs of nectar (14) and I will need to purchase some more protein powder for the pre op three day liquid diet. So what it looks like I will do is buy a large container of a protein. Even if I dont like it post surgery I have to get it down. What I planned on doing was trying all the flavors post op and then buy a larger bulk but I dont know if 14 will hold me plus I dont want to wait until last minute. Also, how long were you on the clear liquids before you moved over to mushies?

  13. Started by bandita,

Am finishing day 2 of the liquid diet and feel as though i may sleep for the next 2 weeks. I am exhausted. I am drinking the costco premier protein shakes...about 3.5 a day which is 105 grams of protein so i am meeting the requirement. I have had chicken broth and my husband just went to get me some jello. I have to work tomorrow...a 12 hour shift...please tell me this will pass. Surgery is still 12 days away.

Can we say HAPPY!?!?!?!?! Because, that's what I am! I am officially out of the 300's and in the 2's. As of today I am 296.5lbs coming from 346 lbs in April. I thought I'd never break out of the 3's. I hoovered at 300.1 for 2 weeks and BAM! The 3's no more! and I'm never going back.. ya, hear me?! NEVER! lol I am so happy with my sleeve. Matter of fact I'm in love with him. I call him Steve by the way.. "Steve the sleeve" lmbo and Steve brings me so much joy and happiness. I'm happy I made the decision to have VSG.. It's done me nothing but a ton of good, thus far. Losing feels so good!!!

Hey All, I just have a few questions, I am pre-op and I would like to learn as much as I can. I have been looking around this site a lot, and there is great information. Here are my questions... Thanks so much! - I know everyone is different, but I worry about saggy skin. Is there anything I can do to prevent this or lessen the sag? - If you are only drinking liquids in the beginning, do you still poop? (Maybe a dumb question, but I have never thought of it before) - I am really scared about hair loss, I really like my hair… is there anything I can do to prevent or lessen it, maybe different Vitamins or shampoos? - My tentative surgery date is August 14th…

  17. I've been lurking around on here since May when I first started thinking this was a possibility for me (found out insurance may cover). This forum helped me decide to go with the sleeve instead of the band. So I did the nutritionist, and psych eval, and finally submitted all my paperwork the first week in July. The past five years (since my son was born) I have done it all... strict doctor monitored diet, boot camp workout three times a week with the diet... i would lose and gain the same 40 lbs. I found out last Tuesday that I was approved by insurance! Met with my surgeon Thursday and I'm scheduled for the 27th! I still have my EGD to get through Wednesday and I start m…

  24. My sister just called me asking me what happens after we reach our goal weights. She hadn't really thought about it and neither have I, but her boss (who knows about my surgery...all of her workplace do LOL) questioned it as she was curious. My goal is 68kg (60kg loss) and say I keep losing weight after that...what happens? I know we can't increase the amount of food we eat, but do we just increase the calorie intake? I haven't thought that far ahead. TIA.

We've all had head hunger come out of nowhere, but I thought it might be amusing to share some of the more random or bizarre attacks and cravings we've had. I was reading a mystery novel in the bathtub this morning when head hunger popped up and I started craving a jam sandwich- bread, butter, and grape jelly. There was no jam sandwich in the book and I can't even remember the last time I had one. Definitely not one of my trigger foods! Like most cravings, it went away after a while, but I'm still struck by how random it was.

  27. I'm only a week out from my surgery but I'm doing fantastically. I am mostly on fluids but do have a little applesauce or pudding especially when I have to crush pills. It helps getting them down. One profound thing I've noticed is that even though I am hungry at times, I don't feel overwhelmed by the feeling. Before the surgery - for most of my life - it always seemed as though my appetite and hunger were a constant presence, something I was always thinking about. I would eat a big meal, and even though my hunger was satisfied, I would start thinking about what I was going to eat at the next meal. That obsession isn't there anymore. I'm of the mind that this is …

I have been feeling bummed recently. Not meeting water/ protein goals slacking on my exercise ect. I also felt like I wasn't losing fast enough because of these things then I decided to do the math. I am 72 days out from surgery and 65 lbs down! That is awesome in my eyes and it was just the lift I needed to refocus and say I CAN do this!! So if your feeling bummed to the days to lbs math!!

I am sorry if this subject has already come up. I tried performing a search and was unsuccessful. I am 16 days post -op. I was advised it was ok to start adding purée on day 14. I find that things are going right through me. My stools are almost all liquid. Has anyone else experienced this? I feel trapped in my home for fear I will need to use the bathroom. I am going to call my doc when they open, but thought you all might have some advice or experience with this. I am continuing to drink fluid, as I don't want dehydration to become an issue.

I went to my first support group meeting today. Absolutely WORTHLESS. It was basically an excuse for the presiding doctor (not my doctor) to talk about himself. It made me incredibly grateful for VST, the people here, and the help I'm getting. I don't believe I'd be confident AT ALL in this journey if I only had the "support" group to go on.

Hi All -- I am working with a surgeon's office here in Atlanta. Before he will see me to discuss options on the lap band revision, I have to get tests done on my own. He's also requesting to see all of my surgical files and follow up notes from my original surgeon. (I'm in the process of getting all that done now!) I have a few questions, please. Was there a waiting period from your insurance like we had prior to being banded? (I had a 3 month waiting period with my band) Did you have to lose a certain amount of weight before your surgeon would perform the revision? (I had to lose 20 lbs before they would band me) How long did your insurance company take t…

Now I have to bend and damn near perform acrobatics to even get a good look at my feet. Shaving my WhoHaw has also become an acrobatic task. Ok. So went to my OB yesterday, thought I was having a negative reaction to birth control pills. Dr. now thinks I have PMDD, and wants to start me on an antidepressant. I've never been on one before, but my friend was, and she gained weight like crazy. I'm wondering how they'll be with the sleeve, and if there's one that won't cause me to gain weight? Thanks

I've been on Cymbalta for about 10 months. I was sleeved on 7/17. Prior to the surgery, my doc told me it would be ok to open the capsules and take it with liquid during the "no swallowing pills" phase. I tried that once and had wild dreams that bordered on hallucinations. I swallowed the capsule (a big no no), and it was fine. Anyone else find this when opening capsules?

  42. I wanted to tell all the August sleevers how proud I am of your choice to do VSG. For me personally it has been the best decision I have ever made. Although I had a low bmi (31) I was obese, I took 2 blood pressure pills that were very expensive. I have a rare liver disease so I can only take certain medications. My liver doctor told me that if I continue to gain weight it would compromise my chances of a liver transplant if I ever needed one. Wow! I was just shy of turning 50. My band came out this morning. It was fairly easy as much as surgery can be easy. Surgery at 9:30 am, on my way home at 2 pm. No pain meds needed at all, even immediately post-op. Moving a bit slow, especially sitting down/getting up, but this has been WAY easier than getting banded. There was a fair amount of scar tissue that my surgeon removed. The band had also pulled my fundus (left portion of the stomach) up through my diaphragm, causing some misshaping that needs time to heal. My surgeon still wants to wait four or so months to revise to the sleeve. I know it's for the best, and I'm fine with waiting, although I of course would like to get started sooner. But wa…

The process was longer than I expected (started everything in November) but I am so happy now to finally have a date to look forward to. My surgeon is typically booked out for 6-8 weeks and is going on vacation for a good chunk of September. So, I'm glad I squeaked in. I have a 10 day pre-op diet that actually isn't too bad - one meal with no carbs then Protein shakes for 2 meals. It'll start right after my hubby's bday, so that works out perfectly. We may even roll our anniversary into the celebration because I'll be 2 weeks post-op for that. September 5th is a Wednesday, I'll be in the hospital probably until Saturday morning (or at least until Friday night).…
