Hi everyone, Just got home from 4 days in the hospital for a small bowel obstruction. They gave me an NG tube (tube through nose and down into stomach to drain my stomach and rest my bowels. Way worse than any recovery from my surgery in 12/2011... I just noticed that my mom left some kefir in the fridge, and sipped a bit of that, and I am actually feeling human again. In a way it feels like my first weeks of post op, just less pain. I was shocked at how many medical professionals have no idea about the sleeve... None... I could hear the nurses reporting at shift change that I had a gastric bypass, even though I always corrected them. And I had an NG tube, so there migh…

The only thing I can down easy are liquids everything else makes me disgusted and I cant seem to get enough in. I have head cravings for stuff but not really that much. I just don't want to eat anything because a. makes me nauseus b. Im scared of gaining weight (only a small amount) c. I fear its going to hurt going down. Also my left side is still very sore and I feel pain whenever I bend or sit up. Anybody else?

Hello all. I was sleeved December 19th. I've lost 65 lbs and have maintained it since April. I'm getting pretty off track in terms of eating. Need to stay on this site to keep motivated. I still need to have my hernia repaired but might not do that this year.

Just wondering if those of us who are already in menopause are sensing that losing weight even with VSG is more of a struggle than if we had done it at a younger age? It is so delightful to me to be past that time in my life and when I read of those who are struggling with that "TOM" and the associated Water retention/weight gain, I am grateful to not have to deal with that on top of the challenges of our new way of living. I do feel that my metabolism is slower that it used to be and I am a slow loser, but slow and steady and I feel better than I did in my 30's as I am much lighter on my feet and I feel more like my younger self. Interested to know what your take m…

For some reason I've always been quite a bit heavier than others who wear my same size. To be honest, I only chose my weight goal by wanting to be a normal BMI. However weight goals have NEVER excited me as much as fitting new sizes (unless you count in being in Onederland). This for me has always been my biggest motivator. Every new size I break into fully, I'm finding THAT really is what keeps me more and more motivated. So, I'm wondering if there is anyone else out there like me? I do still check my weight, it's fun watching the scale go down - but I can tell you, nothing will make me happier than to get to that CERTAIN SIZE!!! My TRUE goal is to fit si…

Just got sleeved Thurs. morning, Aug 9th 2012. My hospital/*** was at Kaiser West L.A. My surgeon is Dr. Um. I started with the Kaiser 12-week program, "Options" dedicated to providing the patient with Bariatric alternatives including diet and surgery info. I'm 5'10" with a muscular build. I started at 269 lbs. and lost 26 lbs..... (Their recommendation to help shrink the fatty liver prior to surgery.) I didn't consider myself as morbidly obese, but I had been diagnosed with Diabetes 2 one year earlier. I had noticed some neuropathy in the front pad of my right foot, and frequent night-time urination told me I might be Diabetic. That was about 6 months prior to diagnosi…

Hi everyone! We are in the process of planning a meetup for all of us in the NYC area! Please come out and meet your fellow NYC sleevers! The meetup is tentatively being planned for September 8th and we're looking to do it in Central Park. I was thinking a pot luck style picnic with sleeve friendly food/drinks! Everyone can bring something. Some people may be pre op and on a pre op diet at the time but don't let that stop you from coming! Bring your Protein Shake and Crystal light with you and come on out! Suggestions are encouraged! Lets make this happen!

I have a strange question but can’t seem to find an answer anywhere else. I’m hoping someone here might have an answer. For several years now I’ve notice that sometimes I get an odd burning sensation inside my lower abdomen, in front of the pelvis just above the groin, after walking for a long period of time. I always thought it was probably due to my large overhanging stomach pulling on the muscles and tissue. Now that I’ve lost about 125 pounds I’m surprised I still get this sensation. Yes, I do still have hanging fat there but it’s gone down a lot; I also always wear a support girdle type undergarment to hold things firmly in. I have had 2 C-sections too. I w…

I'm 12 weeks post op and am trying to connect with people who have a similar approach to this journey. I am pretty much by the books, on the plan, trying to get to my goal every day. I've lost 58 lbs in just over three months, but have another 57 to go. I would love to find others taking the same approach with fitness and diet - I have a lot to learn still! Mary

Today I had my 3 week post op check with the surgeon. He is very happy with his incision site healing. I told him I'd dropped 20 pounds the first 10 days or so, but have stalled since that point......not that I'm complaining.....just wondering what is going on. He questioned what I was eating. My daily intake has been 64(+) oz fluids daily, predominantly Water, 2 powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Protein shakes (to be sure I get @ least 50gm protein daily), 4 oz yogurt (Activia, I am c.o.n.s.t.i.p.a.t.e.d.), and maybe 4 oz apple sauce, fat free refried Beans, or cottage cheese. I've been takin…

Well on Friday I started to itch a bit under my right breast and by Saturday afternoon I had a full blown rash under both breasts, after much research and speaking with Melissa we decided I had a allergic reaction to the Cipro, I have been miserable itching like crazy. I had a heat rash once before and it is 10 times more irritating. Found some Predisone in the medicine cabinet and have taken two today and the itching is better. Still there though and the rash is huge. it said on the internet it takes 7-10 to develop an allergic reaction to antibiotics and they were right. Hopefully by tonight I will be able to sleep, its been so painful I havent been sleeping or pu…

I had my first appointment with my surgeon today and I am on my way! I have already met several requirements and my particular insurance plan is one of the easiest to get approval through. My surgeon was great. He answered all my questions and, believe me, I had many! He explained everything in detail and said that normally the process, from first visit to surgery, takes about 3-4 months. <Big frown and exhale> ...BUT since I have the plan I do, it will go much more quickly for me! <Resume goofy grin> I am on track for a late September/Early October date! I've scheduled the first of two appointments with both the PSYCH and NUT. My upper GI is Tuesday. The rest…

I went for my one week postop visit today. I am acting exactly like a sleeve patient being miserable the first week or so. He wasn't happy at how weak I was and told me to drink fruit juice or yogurt smoothie to get sugar into me. He was surprised I was able to drink a protein drink. He said I looked a lot better compared to the hospital. The reason for not being able to take deep breaths is because he had to cut the muscle a little bit deeper where the port was to get the band out, very little scar tissue and bruised like you know what! He said I could start blended food for a week then try soft foods and see how it goes. I really liked him. I gave him hell and he laughe…

History: I dealt with reflux before the band. When I was banded in 2007, the doc also corrected my hiatal hernia during the surgery. There were days I would experience reflux in the beginning, but I have to admit the worst days of reflux in the beginning were the result of poor food choices. Now with the band, five years later, the reflux has grown to be much worse. It is basically a daily event. Right now I have a complete unfill and I am taking omniprozole. Even with the omniprozole, I am still experiencing reflux...(it is so bad sometimes that my throat and ears hurt...). I have read some posts that if the reflux is bad before the sleeve, that after the sleeve…

I find it weird that two of my friends who have had the procedure done are not being supportive. One of them had the sleeve and is doing very good. When I asked her for her input on how she really felt after the surgery she replied that I should do my research on-line.... Wow! I was blown away as I really thought she would share her experience. The other friend had the RNY and I guess is having a lot of food issues. Like crying because she can't have her favorite foods.. when I told her I was thinking of doing it to help put my diabetes in remission she just about flipped and said that I was crazy for even thinking about having it because I have 60 lbs to lose and…

Got sleeved yesterday! Was not the least bit nervous, just excited. I though I'd get nervous when they wheeled me into the OR, but I was literally out within one minute and then next thing I knew, they were waking me up! Had a bad experience with the anesthesia and was so nauseous. Nothing they tried helped and I started vomiting. NOT fun after belly surgery. Finally, they found the right combo of meds and I was like a new woman. Having some gas pains and just generally exhausted today, but feel so much better. I was released this morning and have been walking, sipping, napping, repeat all day. My belly is so swollen that I look 11 months pregnant, but the Gas-X …
