Question For The Ladies

Recommended Posts

I have a strange question but can’t seem to find an answer anywhere else. I’m hoping someone here might have an answer. For several years now I’ve notice that sometimes I get an odd burning sensation inside my lower abdomen, in front of the pelvis just above the groin, after walking for a long period of time. I always thought it was probably due to my large overhanging stomach pulling on the muscles and tissue. Now that I’ve lost about 125 pounds I’m surprised I still get this sensation. Yes, I do still have hanging fat there but it’s gone down a lot; I also always wear a support girdle type undergarment to hold things firmly in. I have had 2 C-sections too. I went to my regular family doctor and explained all this to her and she had no idea what it could be. She examined me and found nothing. I’ve done a search on the internet and could find nothing. Has anyone had or heard of this? Thanks!

This does not sound familiar to me either. I know that's not helpful, but just so you know someone's listening...

Hmmm.....I get the same pain in my abdominal area when running or jogging. I asked my doctor once long ago and she states that it is somewhat common, i want to say it has to do with breathing and decreased oxygen supply. Since u stated (if I'm not mistaken) that this occurs after walking for a long time I would think it is the similar thing. If you google abdominal pain when running, you will get the more scientific explanation. I hope this helps.

It kind of sounds like a pain I have experienced before. (I too have had two c-sections.) I told a nurse friend of mine about it and she said that it could be that I was ovulating at the time. She said that at times you can experience a bit of pain with ovulation...all part of that PMS thing I guess. I'm not sure of your status as far as ovulation but I thought I would share my experience.

Thanks for the info.

No Chitowngirl, I don't think it's due to my breathing while walking because it happens after casual walking like grocery shopping. I don't do any walking for exercise; I know I should, but I hate all exercise.

7Carol3, I'm past ovulating and menopause so that can't be it either.

But thanks for your help anyway.

I have the "pain when ovulating" - it's called Mittelschmerz, it's German and translates to "middle pain." I can tell you that Mittelschmerz varies - it may be on one side one time, and the next side the next, and then on both, etc. It also varies in intensity. I go from "slightly noticeable twinge" to "literally cannot walk and for the next 4 days feel like I've been kicked repeatedly." I've never heard of a case where varying location & level of pain were not true (not that it means they don't exist), so what you're describing doesn't sound like Mittelschmerz to me. Of course, seeing that you're past ovulating, you'd probably say so too. :)

Would it be possible for you to grab a frontal body shot (not of you, e.g. an anatomy shot from google) and add a little red dot exactly where you're feeling the pain? I probably can't help, but knowing where the pain is, I'll at least know what's in that region.

Wheetsin, sorry I'm not very savy when it comes to techno stuff and can barely email or post on this forum so don't have a clue how to add a picture. I'd say the pain is right in front, not on the side, about where I have my C-section scars.

I get that sensation once a month around the time of my cycle, if I still had a cycle. I still have my ovaries just not my uterus.

Also I know that hernias from surgery can cause that pain as well. Sometimes around the area of our scars. Since the muscle was cut and if it weakened a small bulge could be coming in and out depending on our activity. Some people do have surgery to repair these hernias if they are bad.

Also could be bladder issues? Maybe recurrent cystitis not necesarily an infection.

Cysts, endometriosis, fibroids, adhesions, hernia, strain....

If you have good insurance, you might want to see a Dr. who specializes in sports medicine, since the pain seems related to prolonged physical activity. It could be something as simple as a sports hernia.

Did you ever have a moment of intense pain, and maybe now it's just a recurring pain? Did it set in gradually? Etc.

(Sorry for all the questions, I have a slight medical background and am generally compelled to try and solve problems -- but please in no way take any of this as medical advice... I'm not a Dr...I don't even play one on TV...)

After your either of your c-sections did you ever have bladder tacking or netting done?

I have pain something like that since I had abdominal surgery (tubal & gallbladder) it may be adhesions (scar tissue) or nerve damage from your c-sections. Have you discussed this with your doc?? Mine, as it turned out, comes from scar tissue. I find that if I continue to stroke the area along the scar line it does loosen a bit and I find relief. Just a thought. :)

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
