Surgery was done on September 6th. I stayed two nights in the hospital (due to being so nauseous). I'm finally back home. Only thing that is bothering me is the massive amount of GAS in my belly! Ugh, wish it would go away already! Other than the gas, I don't have any complaints! Surgery went well, and I feel fine today. Anyone have any tips on getting rid of the gas!

Uh oh, this is day 3 that the scale has not moved. After watching it go down so quickly it is a bit frustrating and concerneing that i may have hit a stall so early post op. Tomorrow marks 2 weeks. I did just change to pureed food 2 d ago...could that have something to do with it??? Have not started excercise as it has only been 2 weeks. I have read every post on stalls and was thinking that maybe this was m y 3 week stall but does anyone know if people refer to the 3 week stall as 3 weeks from surgery or from pre op diet and sugery? I am down 23 lbs from start of pre op diet on aug 13 th. But 16 of those pounds were during the liquid diet phase. I am freaking out a littl…

Am a revision and have had the band since June 2011. It has slipped so I am having it removed and sleeved at the same time. New to this and quite nervous about surgery next week. I chose to tell only a few select people. My husband and daughters.... I am going for pre-op tomorrow.

Getting my sleeve tomorrow 9/4! Really excited. I started getting cold feet this morning but then had my boyfriend take photos of me front, back, and sides, clothed, then in bra and panties. The "am I doing the right thing" question went away the SECOND I saw those pictures! I had to drink a 10oz bottle of magnesium citrate this morning which kicked in about 20 minutes after I drank it. I'm now in the loo pretty much every 20 minutes. I had a SF Popsicle - had to run to toilet. Drank some G2 Gatorade - you guessed it. I'm hungry, but 100% certain my system will be cleared out for surgery tomorow. Reading everyone else's stories and the lists of "things I won't miss…

Does anyone here struggle with staying hydrated? I should be having surgery at the end of this month or beginning of Oct and I am really concerned about getting enough fluids in. I only have one kidney that is diseased and due to that I get dehyrated so easily. If I don't drink at least 64+oz every day by the next day I am lightheaded and generally feel ill. I have heard some people saying within the first couple weeks they can barely drink an ounce at a time. Can anyone put my mind at ease? All of my dr's are very supportive of me having this surgery so I know it's best but I am worried about feeling sick due to lack of water. Currently I chug it to get it all in …

I met my surgeon for the first time today. He was very nice and answered any question I asked. He was so happy that I have lost almost 40 lbs already and the fact that I lost 180lbs a few years ago (even though I gained it back, it shows my willpower). My surgery date is 11/14/12!!! He believes my sleeve can help me get down to 200lbs and the rest is up to me. He reminded me my sleeve is a tool and it is up to me to use it properly. I am SOOOOOOOO excited. I have an upper endoscopy on 10/18... yuck! Hate them! Thanks for "listening" to me gush... I am so happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi fellow UK sleevies! I'm having my sleeve surgery on April 24th in Leeds, I'm a revision patient as had a band which went horribly wrong after 18 months and I slowly gained the weight back as I was living abroad and couldn't get sleeve revision until I got back:( Looking forward to getting my sparkle back! Got some great chewable centrum from America off eBay so much cheaper than the bariatric chewables! So all set! Hope everyone is well, B x

So today was my very first little throw up w/ the sleeve. Now, don't get me wrong, I hate to get sick, but this was so much different than w/ the band....so much better! I ate my lunch too quickly b/c I was hungry and the food just did not settle and I got a little sick and up it came. With the band I suffered for hours if something got stuck or if I got sick. So even though I had issues today, it was just so much better than my experience w/ the band. If anyone is still in the deciding stage of going from band to sleeve, just do it. I finally feel like I am no longer on the diet rollar coaster. I can eat food, less quantities, better choices, but can have a little…

I am 12 days out and shoild be starting puree on monday but have found myself rather hungry and tolerating full liquids so tonite i made my first puree. Mashed potatos with protein powder and cheese and fat free sour cream. It was amazing....i finally got to see what it felt like to be full on about 1/2 cup of food and what a great feeling. I am so satisfied! It has been An hour and i am still way full...it feels as tho i have eaten a huge meal! This was the part i was rather skeptical of because i remember with the band i would be at a stopping point with my eating but still very hungry! This surgery is the real deal! Praise the lord!

i've been reading different forums about WLS.. a lot of people talk about how they think that VSG is good, but if you are older or are used to eating a certain way, then you should go ahead & do a duodenal switch or have a RNY... for the malabsorbtion thing it gives you... any idea why these people feel that JUST having VSG is not enough?... is there a lower success ratio or something if you just have VSG vs if you do a full duodenal switch or RNY.. and what's age got to do with anything?... me, personally, i feel that if i can't eat as much as i'm used to eating or want to eat.. then that fixes my problem.. i'll drop my weight & won't have to have my intest…

Yup just got a call from Hospital they cancelled my sleeve for tomorrow because..... my primary insurance (mine from my job) only covers emergency hospitalization, my wifes insurance covers everything and is what my WHOLE family use for doctors and anything else that goes wrong. Well my primary denied of course because I only have emergency hosp but my wifes insurance approved the sleeve. Now the day b4 surgery someone in the hospital called my primary to "double check" authorization which was of course denied and now im in phone tag trying to get this resolved and we are now out of time. So off work for 2 weeks screwed out of and the next surgery date is Sept 21st I c…

I am 10 days out from my sleeve and doing good, today i felt a bit off and somewhat tired etc. But overall it has been a swift recovery. I have a question for anyone who is recently post op...how long does it take you to drink 8 ounces of fluid? The reason i am asking is that i have been slowly increasi g the amount of fluid and decreasing the time i amm drinking it and finding that clear liquids seeem to be going down pretty quickly. I tried some applesauce today and my stomach had a little twinge cramp and then started making lots of noise and i wasnt sure if this was me overdoing it or just a normal series of events for diet advancement. After that applesauce i am a bi…

I'm not sure if this is too personal but I'm trying to find out about birth control. My surgeon said the pill may be ineffective, my primary said there are no studies stating that and at support groups most people are "fixed". I don't want to risk getting pregnant. I really appreciate all your help!!!

Went to the office this morning and saw the other surgeon since my surgeon is in surgery today. She thinks my left side abdominal pain is being caused by the stitch that's in there that closed the trocar site and when I move and use that muscle its rubbing and irritating that area. She gave me a injection of local so that will help for a couple of days. She answered all of my questions and was wonderful! She reviewed what I've been eating (mostly some pureeds since I was scared to advance to softs) and said I'm not eating enough (which I new). She said these next couple of days (while the local is working) increase my pureeds and introduce soft foods to see if it's the m…

I'm scheduled for 10/23 at Faulkner hospital with dr cheung. Anyone have her? I'm really hoping to be able to have the sleeve. I mentioned I had some intermittent heartburn (mostly since my last pregnancy) so they did an upper gi. Showed some excess acid which got me a ticket for a motility test. Waiting on the date of that but not too excited about having it done--doesn't look pleasant! Anyone with similar issues? The heartburn is not bad. Seems to come in spurts but noting some Zantac hasn't been able to handle. Thanks for any input!

I've been having pain in my left upper abdomen since surgery (3weeks ago). At first I just thought it was normal and talked with my surgeon about it on my 1 week follow up appointment and he gave me Hyoscyamine for cramps. That worked in the beginning and the cramping went away. The second week I thought it was just the muscle healing but now I'm in my third week and it's getting worse not better. Very tender over my stomach and constant ache to that part of my abdomen. I've only been able to tolerate pureeds and only 4-6oz. I thought maybe it was to much and I went back to full liquids for a couple of days and even decreased my portions but the discomfort has never subsi…

I wish I could say I had a ton of valuable information to add here, but I'm (hopefully) a few months out from my surgery and am eager to read of your journeys through this decision. I'm working through the portion of the deal where I have to document that I've seen a Dr. for 6 months regarding a diet plan, have a bunch of blood work and other tests done, and then hopefully get certed. Nov. or Dec. maybe for me. I hope so.

Yesterday I had my third nutritionist visit and also had my psych consult. This is officially the halfway point. I must admit that I do have one regret - I went to the free (required) seminar in May - but I didn't have my initial consultation until July - which throws me literally in a race against time to make it in by the end of the year to prevent my deductible from resetting or (hopefully not the case) my insurance dropping coverage for the surgery - I have UHC through HCA. If I had only gone to the initial consult right away I'd be slated to get sleeved in October!! Oh well, hopefully I make it in by the end of the year. Here's to the halfway point! Almost there!
