Hi everyone, I'm Michelle. I am on POD 15. I'm still feeling shell shocked. I don't personally know anyone that has had this surgery so I'm so grateful for this forum. Just reading some of the posts encourages me to know that i'm not going crazy...it will get better..right?? I am struggling to meet my Protein and Water goals. Had to go get an IV last week cause I was dehydrated. It's so hard to control the nausea. But even with all that i already feel 10 years younger. I am 36 and 4'11" and my pre-op weight was 268. I was down to 250# last Thursday. I almost fainted. I haven't lost 18 pounds EVER!. Anyway thanks for the forum.

I am currently in Canada, and I feel the weather changing already here. I love the cool nights and changing of the leaves. But along with all these lovely things comes the anxiety of possibly going back home to Texas for Thanksgiving. I have not seen my family in almost 2 years and they do not know about me having WLS 2 months ago. If I do go back home I know that they are going to be wondering what is going on with me if I don't eat as much as I usually do at Thanksgiving. Also I am worried about not being able to control myself around that sort of buffet of my favorites. I am seriously considering just not going home this year and maybe wait until next year when I am f…

Havent posted in a while but got over the stall on sunday and now down 3 lbs!!!! I'll take it! It took almost a full 3 weeks to come out of this first one but now i feel much better that it is gone! Funny thing is that the day before i came out of the stall i cheated myself and ate 3 chocolate chip cookies over the course of the day. I had read that people were able to come out of their stall by putting something eally unhealthy in their diet for a day and wouldnt you know it...i am not sure if it was already over or if the junk food helped break the spell but there has got to be somethingt to it! Down 27 lbs!

I posted before that I lost 50 pounds and then these past 2 weeks I gained 2 pounds....no change in diet.... I waited for that to change, but it's stalling for the 3rd week now..... I'm 3 months post op today... and I woke up with a strange feeling....very hungry.....ate a lot today as before the operation..... I'm getting hungry every 2 hours..... I just ate a whole plate of pasta, which if were a month ago I would have vomited instantly....I was actually waiting to see if I'm going to throw it up again, but I didn't....Oh God!!! I'm actually in tears right now.... don't know what to do ((.... I'm actually playing this horrible scenario in my head over & over... that…

I had lost 8 of the 10 lbs that I needed to lose at my pre-op visit Sept 4,. I was told by surgery I need to lose 2 more to make it 10. Here I am a day away from surgery and I have ate everything in sight starting this past Wed. and didnt stop until lunch time. Its like I cant control it, I dont know if its that I'm nervous unconsiously or what but now I may not get the surgery. I talked to a friend today that has had the surgery. She said YOU HAVE TO STOP! When I show up Monday morning at the hospital and weigh me, I'm so scared they wont do the surgery. I know I have gained weight and I know they cant perform the surgery if I'm all swollen inside. Has anyone else ever …

Let's hear 5 purely positive things you are looking forward to doing/trying. Things that will reward you for all your weight loss struggles that you will have finally overcome. Things like - "going sledding with my kids." NOT - "Not having to watch my kids go sledding without me because I'm too fat." Get it? Here are mine: Going on a long overdue trip to Vegas with my husband. Having sex, with him on top. Riding bikes with my kids, if they can keep up with me! Spending too much money on clothes because everything looks great on me, even light colors! Buying big bulky cable knit sweaters because I so often get chilly.

I'm so excited you would think its my turn to head to the losers bench! This means Ill have my best friend around a little longer than I would have, hopefully. My surgery is in TJ in March, while hers is in the states. I've helped guide her through the process and will continue post op. I feel like a walking sleeve encyclopedia with my obsession to research everything to death and the wonderful people here on VST are much to thank for a huge amount of my info and knowledge. Thank you all and I look forward to the continued "friendships".

hi, my op is on the 9th and today I have started the 800 Cal low fat, low Carb, moderate Protein diet, and am so ready to get on with it. after waiting 18 months I am so happy to be just two weeks away. I am having fun getting things together to take into the hospital and have two sets of pjs depending on what size I will be in two weeks, hoping to be into the new smaller size, but prepared to take in the bigger older ones, knowing I should be into the smaller ones soon. Want to wish every one on the diet, or starting the diet soon, best wishes and to all who are having their sleeve in Oct prayers for a suscessful operation with minimal pain and a quick recovery with no…

I found out today that my family care doctor didn't keep record of our discussions about weight loss diet and exercise... On the bright side the man who needs the information to submit to my insurance said she can go back and document what we discussed on a form... Which is great... However... My family doctor has up and quit... No one knows where she is going or if she is even going to work anywhere else... So that means I may have to do 5 more months... I am sooo discouraged!

I am three weeks post op. I started mushies last Friday. I am getting around 600 cal/day which includes a minimum of 40 g protein but I still don't have much energy. I am pretty much useless after 4pm. Is this normal? Does it get better or do you just get used to it?

I hope you guys/girls don't mind me posting this question here, I figured since I don't belong to any lap band forms ,and this form is for those who have had or has the lap band and struggled maybe you can help. I'm sorry if this is the wrong place. So my cousin had the lap band surgery over a year ago. She has lost over a 100lbs and seemed to be doing great! However, she has recently told me that she is indeed having problems. She is unable to eat or drink anything other than her Protein shakes, and I guess she is really having issues with her hair falling out, and breaking out. She throws up everything. She seems to think she may have some Vitamin deficiency. I fear t…

Seems like everything I do lately triggers a "this time next year..." in my brain. My kids' school curriculum night, their sports events, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, everything I do with other people! All I can think about is the next time I attend whatever event it is. I CAN'T WAIT! Honestly, before I looked into this surgery I had lost all hope. I've tried every diet and even the ones that worked ended up with me regaining what I lost and more. I decided I can't diet anymore because it only makes me bigger in the end! But not this time. This time it's going to be forever. Am I the only one who thinks people sometimes dislike me because of my…

I had the sleeve done last November. I am close to goal. That's a great thing. However, at about the 50 lb marker, I started having many hot flashes (in Feb). And in the past month, things that would have never upset me before eat up most of my concentration. I cry so easily. Because I am 52, I am probably also going through menopause or about to go through it. Anyone else out there have any of these emotional swings and if so, what helped you get through it? I never imagined that the weight loss could maybe trigger these things. One other thing, my stomach is obviously so small I can eat very little meat, which I miss. I get most of my protein from shakes and …

So I have been browsing the site and have seen mentioned a 12 week program before surgery, appointments with a 'nut' (??), and people having to wait 18 months for surgery. Just wondering if someone can explain the process you have to go through in the states or any other country, I'm very interested. Here in australia I pretty much just made my appointment and that's it, no program, no ongoing appointments just a few tests. Thanks !

I would like to find a buddy in my similar situation, I have been successful as I have lost close to 100lbs with my sleeve but I need to lose 50 more to goal and it is not happening. I have been a slow loser since day one. As of today I am on liquids for today and tomorrow will be back to basics. I still don't eat Pasta or drink soda, not much bread and am probably at 1000 cals a day. I am active but don't have an actual exercise routine because it is VERY hard to find the time with 5 kids and school. Anyone want to be my buddy?

Nov 2012 it will be 1 year since my surgery. Lately I feel so hungry. I have been stalled at my current weight for some time. I have aslo fallen into eating some sweets. I am concerned i may have stretched my sleeve. For the longest time I never felt hungry. Now I do. Im not sure if its actual hunger or head hunger. I know im not really good at getting all my water in and maybe get 60-70 grams of protein each day. Its difficult to eat low carb, high protein, low sugar and calories... Im lost for what to eat anymore. I need help from you all. How many calories do you eat each day? What things do you eat and how much? How do you feel with hunger. I need to start …

I'm looking for a buddy in the South Bay area. I do not have much support from my family and to be honest, I "haven't had any friends" since March 2011. I would love to share my journey with you and I don't mind being mentored (I'd welcome it actually). I'm excited to support you and to Celebrate your success as well. I'm 25 and reside in Torrance. I was "sleeved" in Tijuana on August 7th (almost 7 weeks post-op) and I am down 17 lbs since then (26 lbs including 2 week pre-op diet and 32 lbs from my highest weight). I'm a Tech Consultant/Web Designer and I go to school in the San Gabriel valley area.

Hi all. I am being sleeved on July 31 by Dr David Kim at Forest Park in Dallas. I was just curious about what to expect... How was the facility? Nurses? How long were you there? What type of pain control was used? Was Dr Kim good at getting the gas out? Was a family member able to stay at all times with you? Any tips on things to bring with me? Sorry! I am just so excited and it would be great to get a few pointers from some that is familiar with Dr Kim or the facility.

I had my surgery in April 2011, so I am 8 months out. I have lost approximately 70 lbs. My doctor is satisfied with this weight loss and says I'm losing at a good pace. I agree and I hope to lose 30 more lbs. by my surgery date to make it 100lbs lost. The thing is, I don't eat that great. I have tried to keep a journal/log of my food, and it worked in the beginning but I have been through a lot in this past year and I will start up again (part of my new year resolution lol). I think I drink too many calories...well I know I do. Starbucks has always been my friend and still is; I plan to decrease this habit in new year. I know what I need to do, but I'm so stupid as t…

Hey guys/girls, I guess I should start by introducing myself. I am 31 years old from Paris Ky and I am looking into getting the sleeve. I found this site a couple weeks ago and have been doing a LOT of reading at a number of different topics. Luckily I was looking around and found this KY portion and saw some stuff that I was actually looking for. A couple things that I saw were the mention of Georgetown Bariatrics and of Dr. Weiss. I would be going this route due to my insurance and upon several very positive suggestions concerning Dr. Weiss. I tried searching the hospital/surgeon sections with limited results. I would be very very interested in hearing anything…

My NUT said that the reason I may not feel restriction until I eat 8 ounces is because I stretched my sleeve by drinking my water too fast through a straw. My surgeon claims he used a 34 bougie but I have never felt restriction at 4 ounces and I have never had to sip, sip ,sip...as they say. Im scared that I could gain back my weight by eating 8 ounces of the wrong types of food since I do not feel much restriction. What do you think about the straw comment (getting air into your stomache)?

Banded in 2007... Having some issues now with the band but I never reached goal. I lost 75 lbs but only half way to goal. Now ...I have to have a screening colonoscopy so they added that to the endoscopy that I need to have to find out the problem with my band. I am totally scared to death..afraid they won't put me out enough, afraid of what they will find wrong with the band and I don't have insurance that will pay to have it fixed and mostly totally freaked they might find cancer while doing the colonoscopy!!!! I don't know why I can't calm down about this. I spent 15 years in the medical profession and a self admitted control person. I guess I need someone to tell m…

I chose not to tell co-workers about my VSG. A new employee was informed by our co-workers that I had my "stomach stapled." New employee told me. Since I never told them in the 1st place, why are they telling others? The person talking is one of the largest people I know, so I would think she would be more understanding.

I'm trying really hard to lose some weight pre-op. I have a medical scale with those big 50 lb increments on the big weights and the little slide weight at the top. I started at 262. I'm now 252. Which means 3 more pounds until I can move that big 250 pound weight over to the 200 and use the little bar! Small victory, I know, but when I slide that chunk over from 250 to 200, it's going to feel like I've lost 50 pounds. I can't believe I've only lost 10 pounds in about 6 weeks, though. I was completely sedentary and eating anything and everything. Now I'm being very careful (not crazy) with my food and walking tons and doing yoga and Water exercise at least once…

Hi there everyone! I'm new here and very interested in hearing from everyone on their experiences. I had the band put in back in 2007 and ended up having it removed in 2010 due to a slip. I then had it put back in 6 months later only to have major complications. In March of this year I ended up having to get an emergency gastrectomy (90% removal) due to stomach lacerations caused by ulcers. My weight loss was rapid for the first 4 months then it just stopped. I went from 206 to 156 and I have been pretty stagnent with my weight loss until recently. I just started to gain weight and I'm now up to 163.8 which is freaking me out. I'm only eating about 800 calories and I e…

My husband is taking off work to be at the hospital for my surgery and the 2 days after - he is meeting with his boss tomorrow to let him know he is taking time off on those 3 days. What do you think he should say to his boss? Should he advise his boss I am having bariatric surgery or just say surgery and not elaborate? I am not ashamed to be having bariatric surgery; however, we live in a small town and I don't want to become the poster child for WLS. I want to be able to tell people on my own terms and in my own way. I don't want friends finding out through the grapevine and then being upset that I didn't share this with them before. Any advice?

I went to the dr. Yesterday for my 6 week check up. I lost 30 lbs since the day of surgery. Major stall last week Anyway, I was talking to the receptionist. She told me I looked great. My skin was clear hair looked nice etc. Joking around I said " oh I thought I would have lost more ." And she said " because you are so small, it will take you two years to lose your weight. " Two years??? Is that what everyone experiences? I'm by no means small. I started at 231.

I am new here but need to share what I have learned that may hopefully help others. I did my research and knew that the Gastric Sleeve procedure was what I would have, fortunately my insurer recently approved the procedure so I was eligible. What I didn't know at the time is that my surgeon was one of 2 in the nation that would be utilizing a new technology to perform the surgery. There is a company named TransEnterix that has engineered a new and innovative instrument "Spider" to allow a single incision that will receive multiple instruments. It was pretty amazing to awake from surgery and learn that I was the second patient in the entire US to have a sleeve with thi…

So i had surgery 3 weeks & 3 days ago. A week.after surgery i got an incision site infection - went to the dr and have been packing it ever since. It started stinking horribly, i could smell it through mt bandages & clothes! Went to dr and he cleaned it out and then i learned it is now about 1/4 deeper. No antibiotics. I have been tired & weak but not terrible. Fast forward to Wednesday - started back to work - really lost track of Fluid intake and before i realized it was 9pm and i only had 6oz of liquid. Things progressively went down hill. My side was hurting, having a hard time taking in a deep breath (thought it was gas), started getting really…

I got lucky in the fact that my insurance was actually pretty easy to work with and I got approved the first time I applied. I'm enjoying reading everyone's stories on here and am very glad I am having the surgery before I head back to school in September!
