I need someone to figuratively hold my hand through this process and help me keep myself from chickening out. I know this is in my best interest for the long haul but I'm terrified as I read two horrible journey's today...one of which it sounds as if the woman is still fighting for her life nearly 2 and a half months later :-( I have 3 fairly young kids, my twins will be 6 in November and my youngest just turned 3 at the end of September. I was raised in Illinois but I now reside in Wisconsin.

Did anyone else watch nightline last night, 6-18-12? It was "Weigh Less, Drink More?" about transferring your food addiction to alcohol. They talk about Carnie Wilson & Beth Sheldon-Badore, AKA: Melting Mama of Bariatric Bad Girls Club. I'm only 1 month out, so I haven't had alcohol yet. Does it really affect you quicker & sober up quickly? What do y'all think about this phenomenon? Have you experienced it? I've never had a problem with alcohol, so it makes me nervous to drink anything.

Just curious, I've noticed that some are running down their pre-op to do list, and teeth cleaning is on there. Why is it so important to do this pre surgery? Risk of infection? Healing time?

I'm having my operation on the 10th of October I'm terrified. I saw on YouTube that some people have a pump or something from their tummy. I was wondering do we all get that? I guess I'm more scared about the pain but I think I can deal.

Hi gang, I'm hoping I might be able to ask for your opinion. I am almost 5 months out (May 10th) and for the last month and a half to two months, I've been gaining and losing the same three to four pounds. I lost 74 lbs very quickly, but have reached a stand still. I was 371 on surgery day, and am at 297 (sometimes a little less) I'm hoping that I am not finished losing yet, is this possible? I've been eating pretty much the same since I started back on regular food, but I haven't been exercising as much as I should. Perhaps it's time to start cutting back on calories and getting to the gym or for a walk on a regular basis, or do you think I will have to be happy wi…

What a great day! Went to a live show at our local theater ... Ran into an old friend who didn't recognize me, and I felt so comfortable inching past people to get to my seat and then fitting into my seat with room to spare and could even cross my legs! Yea for my sleeve! Sent from my iPad using VST

Ok I am almost 6 months out. I was cheering at my daughter's soccer game and they won the championship game. I jump up, raise my arms above my head, scream, and begin to feel faint. I sat down immediately and got better. Anyone experience this? I haven't. I am afraid it's my heart..weakened maybe. I sure hope not. Anyway..I plan on going to my PCP to check on it. Anyone else experience this?

Hi everyone, I finally had my surgery on September the 27th and everything was fine with the sleeve, except for my BP and my surgeon was concerned that I would get dehydrated because I was unable to consume enough liquids to keep me hydrated. Now I have a pic line in my arm and I'm at home, was discharged yesterday, and the place where the pi line is inserted is still bleeding. I told my surgeon and he told me to take the dressing off and put a new one on there. I told him OK, but now I'm afraid to touch it, because I don't want to infect anything because when the nurse did it she had on blue scrubs and a mask and blue drapes on my arm....and I think the nurse told me to …

Well, folks...I have arrived at that moment - the point of no return! I am scheduled for surgery Wednesday, October 3rd. I am having the VSG in conjunction with a hiatal hernia repair. Today, I had my pre-op appointment with the surgeon and signed all the paperwork that literally makes you want to run for the hills. You know the stuff I am talking about....the paper that says you are aware of the complications including leaks, strictures, internal organ damage, blood clots, etc. up to and including death! I understand they have to make you aware but honestly I don't need it to be me that has the complications or heaven forbid dies on the table. I know I should b…

Yesterday I hit the 92 pounds lost mark. I am so, so thankful. I really can't believe I've done it. Not just the surgery and good eating, but the choosing to really take care of myself. It's been 3.5 months since my surgery. I still have over 100 pounds to go, but I am almost 1/2 way there and I am so excited. On 10/20 I will be walking a 5K at Soldier Field in Chicago. When I think about walking all that way I scare myself. But I will do it. I am committed. I want to be the kind of person who can do a 5K - even if it takes me all day to do it!!!! I think what I've learned the last few months is to just take it one day at a time. To not beat myself up when I blow it a b…

Hi all! Been sleeved for exactly 6 weeks today! I've been eating soft foods for about 4 weeks, but I started integrating soft chicken and that seems to give me a lot of reflux. Reflux is my only side effect but its pretty uncomfortable - constantly having acidic and sour taste. Anyone else feeler same?

I am having my weight loss surgery this Friday, June 29th. I am ready to ge the show on the road. Having it done at Forest Park Medical Center in Dallas, Texas by Dr. Dirk Rodriguez. Lots of bariatric surgeries performed there by various bariatric surgeons. It seems that everyone getting the sleeve done response to this forum, but then we do not hear from them after their procedure. I want to know what to expect before and after. So once you have your surgery, lets all continue to share our experiences. Thanks - Addison

Well, I've been so sure that I want the VSG until I attended a WLS support group meeting. There was 1 VSG person and 3 roux-en-y people. It got me wondering if I'm making the right decision with VSG. How did you all come to the decision that the sleeve is the best choice for you?

The scale has not been my friend latley it has been saying 203 since 9/7. I try not to weigh in every day or weekly but I have been so close to 199. I have been weighting myself about 2 times a week since 9/7 and NOTHING it has not been moving it would get to 202 but then back to 203 and back and forth. So this morning I hopped on and it was 199.4 I was so excited. I have not been below 200lbs since 2003. Then I got up to 240 had my first baby then PCOS, then pre menopause at 27 Then 10lbs gain a year I would gain and loose but stay between 255 and 290. I could never get below 258 to be honest with myself. This is the best choice I have made for myself in a long time. …

Hello everyone my name is John and I found this web site a few weeks back but just not posting. I have been doing a lot of reading. Little about me: I am 27, I weight around 360lb and ill be having my second first meeting Wed. I started talking to a doctor about 2 ½ years ago and was doing well. About half way through everything I talked myself out of it and convinced myself I didn’t need surgery. I lost weight on my own once before I should be able to do it again (When I was 22 I lost 120lbs in 6 months). I realized after the fact that I had a lot more time for the gym and other things then I do now. I work long hours on the night shift and it is hard trying to…

Ok guys! So I've lost 2 kilos, 4.4 pounds. BUT! This is in 6 weeks. I'm a pre-sleever working through my food issues to get sleeved June 2013. I've been struggling this month- extreme hunger at night, fatigue, cravings, pms with out the M! So I see the head of the clinic today, I paid full fee for the pleasure, only to be told that the general doctor who had been treating me had prescribed endep (for my sciatica) in complete contraindication with my regular cymbalta. Not only has it been causing the severe fatigue, but it CAUSES weight GAIN!!! And hunger, and Water retention, dry mouth, emotional lability! So, in order to treat weight-related sciatica, the doctor gave …

I'm 23 years old and having my sleeve October1. I start my pre op diet today and I guess its just all hitting me now. I know I can handle the diet before and after surgery. My biggest concern now is the loose skin I'm reading about from people. I know since we are young it bounces back better and faster but how much of a problem has everyone had with this?

Here it is 3+ months of hoops and finally passed everything. Met with Dr yesterday and got a date of Nov 28. Finally a date but still 2 months off. I still have hoops the way it sounds. I have 2 more appointments before the surgery and I'm sure a physical will be required by my PCP. Will call and find out today. Also found out for all Medicare people out there that they are finally paying for the sleeve. The Dr's insurance admin said they have been paying for about 3 weeks. All I have to say is. Everyone going through all the tests, prods, sticks, pokes it will come to an end ( I was begining to wonder myself). Now I will really need you guys help, thi…

Today is day 6 and I'm just wondering if I'm doing everything right. I feel like I'm not eating enough and that I'm losing weight too fast. Maybe something I'm doing wrong. Right now I'm eating sugar free popsicles during the day (like 2 day) and drinking liquids like G2 or Crystal light. I cant drink that much at one time so I probably only finish about 1 bottle a day. I was told by a cousin of mine that I need protein. I tried drinking a low carb slim fast (20grams of protein) I got about 1/3 of it down and feel sick. So I just wanted to get advice on what others are eating on day 6 and what I should be eating by now. Today is day 6 and I have lost 11 lbs.

Hi there. I'm still pre-op. I have a good friend who believes she has visions of future disaters. We were both at a funeral the other day, and right before the funeral started, she grabbed my hand and said, "I don't want you to have the surgery. Are you sure there is nothing we can do?" I told her no and that it was my decision. She then said that she had heard of people recently dying from WLS. I ignored her. Then, a few minutes later she leans over and tells me that she had a premonition that the dead guy at the funeral was going to die. I ignored her and left the funeral quickly after it ended. This is not the first time she has alluded to a doom and gloom …

My original posting was on the LB talk site but have never liked it because so many people talk to you like you're a freak of nature when you say the band hasn't worked for you or you've had complications, you get the whole "you're doing it wrong" "what do you eat" responses. I guys, any thoughts on Lapband removal and going to sleeve? I was banded April 2008 and have many complications over the last few years from GI issues to slippage causing weight gain. Spoke to my doctor today originally thinking of going to gastric bypass, but after much discussion of how I am dedicated to working out, counting calories and portion control, that he feels the sleeve would be a…

I do not personally know anyone who has had the sleeve but i do know a girl who had bypass about 2 1/2 years ago. I talk to her a lot about her experiences & ask her advice. Today we were talking, she told me to prepare myself for some very negative people after the surgery. She has experienced this from people she never expected would treat her this way. She did not tell many people about her surgery, one of her friends found out a couple of weeks after the fact and confronted her about it. She told her that it was true she had the surgery. The friend preceded to tell her how wrong this was and she had "went against God". First of all, why do people take it upon them…

My concern is I will have bad saggy skin too, but Im 20 yrs younger than him. Do you think AGE has anything to do with your skin hanging? I know its a retarded question but I am really worried about this....

I've visited this wensite a few times over the past few months. Mostly looking for info and thoughts and support and everything inbetween. I never signed up, but I did today. My surgery is scheduled for the 26th of this month. As in next week. As in 6 days. I have been so sure of everything I was doing. So confident, and right now I am scared out of my mind. I am so worreid about complications and dying on the table. Not waking up. I'm worried that the surgery is going to go wrong and I am gonna be using a feeding tube for the rest of my life. I'm wondering if I should back out and get my $2000 co-pay back and really work hard on regular excerise and eating right (which n…
