Getting Your Teeth Cleaned Pre-Op?

Just curious, I've noticed that some are running down their pre-op to do list, and teeth cleaning is on there. Why is it so important to do this pre surgery? Risk of infection? Healing time?

    Ha! Never thought about that. My 6 month cleaning just happened to fall 3 weeks before surgery. Maybe we just want to feel fresh and clean going in?

    Kinda funny mine is 2 weeks before surgery. I didn't plan it that way it just happened. But now I'm curious if there is a reason to do it pre op.
