Because of another thread, I ventured over to that site to do a little reading. Whoa do they look down on the sleeve. I realize they believe in the lap band, but they talk about the sleeve like it is the kiss of death, and the only reason anybody gets the sleeve is because they are too impatient to wait for the slower weight loss of the Lapland. Like slower weight loss is some kind of advantage. They also talk about how they are not willing to do something so drastic like cut out 85% of their "healthy" stomach. Personally I don't miss that 85%. I'm eating just fine, haven't been sick in the least. Anyway, not to put them down, just thought it was such a diffe…

I'm in the process of getting my Sleeve done at Fort Gordon in the near future but I live about 3hours away in Charleston, SC. So here is my big question. What if after my surgery I have a medical problem say 6months to a year out and I need to go to a civilian ER. It turns out that say I'm dehydrated from not being able to get in enough fluids because I have the sleeve and I'm hospitalized for two days. Will that be covered by Tricare or would I be taking the responsibility for the cost? I'm sure their are a million scenarios out there but I'm trying to get a grasp of what exactly I'm getting into financially. Because it's not just a health risk but a financial risk to…

I know that I've lost weight since surgery because the scale shows it and because I have found new clothes to wear in my own closet that I had forgotten about! But, sometimes you just want to hear someone say it. I think I'm at that stage where people are staring and saying that I look good, instead of saying that I look like I've lost weight. But, the true test of weightloss all of my life has been my direct, blunt parents. So, I walk into their house today. They haven't seen me in a month. My Dad yells to my mother, 'Come see her, this girl is getting skinny!' LOL! That's my true weightloss test!

My surgeon does does use a bougie to size my stomach, instead he uses a scope. The surgeon's report indicates that my stomach is 7.5 inches x 2.5 inches x 1.5 inches. Does that not seem large? I do not start to feel restriction until 6-8 ounces. I am 3 months out.

Of course, I am getting cold feet.... NERVES are getting the better of me and I just would like to know what to expect! Any input would be greatly appreciated from my fellow sleevers!

Feel so lucky to have the sleeve and to be 21lbs from my doctor's goal. My best friend got RNY one month after I had surgery. She is having the hardest time and has to be so careful she doesn't eat something that causes her to dump. She is stuck on liquids because she pukes when she eats anything puréed. I am praying she can soon tolerate more food. I'm grateful for my sleeve. I feel great and am looking great too!!!

I am wondering if anybody that went to Mexico for their VSG has had any problems with infection? If so, what kind and where? Is this even tracked by the surgeon since so many people come from the US/Canada? I am still trying to determine my surgeon and this is probably the biggest factor in my decision. Thanks in advance for any input!

Yesterday I started getting really bad panic attacks and started to cry. Neither condition subsided all day long. I felt so a lone for the first time. No one I personally know is having this surgery or about to. I was struck with fear at the thought that no one would really truly understand what I am about to do or understand all the changes I have made in preparation of the surgery. I have a good support group around me. But all of a sudden I wondered what I was thinking doing this to myself. I have been having the "bring it on" attitude for months and all of a sudden fear has hit and hit hard. Wed. I go for my last pre-op appointment. I will get my surgery date then…

My name is Sharon (Ronee) and I am 58 years old. Married and live in KCMO. I have approval through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois for my bariatric surgery, however I switched surgeons, so I am now having to meet the requirements of a new group, before being scheduled. Have to admit to a little bit of nervousness about the whole thing, wondering if it really is the right thing to do. Maybe I am just having cold feet....Sharon

Like most of us, I drink crystal light for flavor but I've been doing research and I found that it can stall weight loss because of the aspartame and artificial sweeteners. I'm officially in a stall and while trying to break my stall I wondered if this was part of the reason. I know all the chemicals get blocked in your liver and that makes it hard for ur liver to function and so called cleanse out. Anybody have any other opinions? This got me worried because plain water I don't mind but there r times I need something else.

I was banded 8/09 and was going great. I hit a standstill and then lost 8 more lbs after another 3 months. I have not lost any weight in 2 yrs. fills and unfills many times. Now upper left-side pain that's been there for about 3 weeks now. I've had 2 upper GI's within 5 months, Nothing found. Now today he said go for a ct scan, blood work and then back to him next week and totally all fluid removed. Did any of you have this upper stomach pain that I've described? If so, What was causing it. It used to come and go, but this time it's a little worse and hanging on longer. I'm a little worried. I talked to him about the sleeve and he was all for it. I just don't want to re…

I'm getting so excited. Even though the process seems so long, now it's getting closer and I can believe it's really going to happen. My last appointment with my PCP will be on November 5th, and everything will be ready to submit to the insurance company then. I'm getting so nervous and excited all at the same time! My husband said to me the other day "I'm so happy for you! It's going to be nice to see you not feeling so depressed and going through all the torture anymore". He has watched me through all the yo-yo dieting and depression over the last 20+ years. I'm so grateful for all his support. I just don't want to live like this anymore. I can't wait to start livi…

I thought this would be a great place to introduce ourselves --- I live in St. George, UT. I had my sleeve done on March 14, 2012 by Dr. Tug Miller. My experience so far has just been awesome. I have had very little problem eating, but I am working on getting more Protein in what I eat. I have even started walking! I have had great support from my 3 sons as well as my parents and the few friends I have told. I look forward to having more contacts within the state.

I had my sleeve on 12/14/11 when I was almost 61 1/2. My bd was in June nd I turned 62. I am no longer on any medication and feel better than I have for years. I went from a size 18 to 4 jeans. You are never too old to be healthy. I hope people who really need this done, will realize that age is not an issue. I only had 55 lbs. to lose but it was all in my abdomen headed for my heart and in a very dangerous place. Who knows what would have happened had I not had this surgery. I also had some repair done to my esophagus at the same time from some damage from some reflux surgery I had in 1999. I feel my VSG surgeon saved my life. I never had any pain or complicatio…

Came home today. The pain in my incisions is minimal, I'm walking fine. I can drink Water and shakes ok. When I woke up from surgery I had intense gas pains stuck in the middle of my chest, and that was basically the worst of it. I got on the scale though and it shows that I gained 9 pounds since the day of surgery. How long will these fluids and stuff from surgery be in me?

So...I had my final visit with my surgeon yesterday. I couldn't maintain the 10 lbs weight-loss I had and my abdominal ultrasound revealed a fatty liver so I have one week of a liquid diet starting the 23rd...not plzd but i look forward to the pre-op loss. I'm scared of arriving to the hospital late so I've booked a room at a local hospital to hang out the night b4. This way my husband can go back to the hotel and have Breakfast while waiting for me to come out of recovery. I'm going to miss my little girls for the few nights I'll be in the hospital.

I finally got my exact operation date yesterday, the 9th oct, in the afternoon, and am so excited, it has taken me 19 months to get to this point and it still feels unreal. I have started to think about what to take into hosital with me, and have found some new slippers, got some new pink towels, and toothpaste, lol, i am concentrating on this because i havn't yet received my liver shrinking diet, i am allergic to cows milk, so have to follow the alternaive diet, i start it on the 25th sept, and am impatient to find out what it consists of. The dietician was suppose to send it out to me last week, but as usual, what he is supposed to do for me isn't happening, but at le…

I am writing this so if anybody ever encounters Pneumomediastinum they might find this post. I got my band removed and sleeve done at the same time on June 1st 2012. Its been a little over two months since my surgery with no complications. Three nights ago I started to feel as if I were punched in the throat it was a really bad feeling it felt as if I swallowed something and their was a huge air bubble. I couldn't really talk or swallow without pain. I know it wasn't a blockage because I didn't really eat that much. I called my surgeon at about midnight and explained the situation he said to immediately go into the ER and get admitted that the symptoms don't sound too g…

Emotional Vampires & Toxic People... I'm doing an inventory of all my relationships, family, friends, etc. who have been instrumental in giving me bad advice, not being encouraging, or just breaking my heart, and hurting my feelings. How many people are really my friends because they like having a fat friend as a wingman? My family who tells me that WLS is a cop out? The exbf who said he's just not that attracted to "big girls". It's time to clean house, and dump the negative and replace it with the positive. Who are your emotional vampires and what are you doing to change it?
