My surgery is in 2 weeks and we have to move later next year. The surgeon at the seminar commented that a general surgeon can follow a bariatric patient, if they want. Everyone knows moves happen in the military so I figured I can't be the only bariatric patient to go through this. There isnt a bariatric clinic where we are going but they have general surgery. I called the post hospital and asked for general surgery. I told the lady the situation and asked if they would see me. She said probably not but she would ask the head nurse. She came back on the line and told me that I need to follow up with my original surgeon. So I'm expected to drive 1400mi round trip e…

Hello all. I have only been a part of this forum for a week or so. I am SO happy that I found a place where I can read real experiences and find a place where people understand my struggles. It shows I am not alone. But I have a question – and this is no means to start an argument – it seems some people love to make a battle, and I don’t intend this to be one. This is what I want to know. Why are we embarrassed to tell others (outside of our family – sometimes within) about the journey we are on or have done? Why do we allow others to make us feel that we should be ashamed or feel bad that we have chosen WLS? Most of us already feel bad that we are overweight – yet we a…

I've been so sick all week with the flu, and have gained 2 lbs back of the 96 lbs I have lost! It's made me so depressed, I cried for a while last night. Has anyone else experienced this? Could it be water weight, or simply lack of exercise while being confined to bed? Thoughts? Suggestions?

I have a couple of questions for those at goal. Did you follow a high protein/low carb diet during weight loss? If so, do you eat the same amount of protein now or have you lowered the amount?

back in june i had the pleasure of talking to some of you as i was awaiting my crapband removal and hopefully my new sleeve. when they went to remove my band it was busted in 3 places and covered in put, they found numerous adhesions as well as the mesh that was supposed to be covering the large hernia that almost killed me in 09 (see the tell us your story section) in a big coil with my organs attached to it. so many of you had such supportive words and one of you had even referred me to an attorney that i am now using. lo and behold i started to get bills that were marked "insurance maximum reached" when i called my insurance it was to my surprise due to the fact that t…

I am wondering if after my surgery if I will ever be able to enjoy my 12 oz. sugar-free caramel latte w/ 1% milk again or should I get myself used to the idea of staying away from coffee and milk for good? I am okay with wheat and other carbs and even sugar, but my latte will be oh so hard!

I am 4 months post op and have lost 60 lbs. But I got on the scale this morning and I have gained. Granted it was only 5lbs but still it was a gain. To be honest I thought I would be down more than 60 lbs by now. I haven't been as strict as I should be this last month...so many bad things happened and I went back to my old ways and turned to junk food. I feel like I have fallen off the wagon and I am struggling to get back on it.

I am so tired of being tired all the time. I am fairly sure it's due to my weight and it just stinks. Looking forward to not being a big slug that wants to sleep all day long. I hear a lot of post ops raving about the energy they have and am curious when that happens for most. Is it just when you hit a certain weight? It would be nice to have that in mind to keep chugging along!

So im hoping you guys give your input so that I can steal some your goals and so that they can become a reality for you Lol. Here is my list that I will accomplish within my first year post op, GOD willing. I want to: •shop at Armani Exchange •cycle in a century •go skydiving •go to great adventures amusement park •run in a race •take my son to the park and play with him without being short of breath

  15. Hello fellow OctoSleevers (and everyone else)! As I approach my one month until surgery countdown, I just wanted to get a general idea from others what your pre-op diet recommendations are by your doc and/or nut. Like how long before must you start, when do you start liquid only (if at all), or if there is a goal weight loss (or % of total weight) needed prior to surgery proceeding. My doc gave me a "general guideline" of 5% weight loss pre-op, with a low carb / high Protein diet (like a Protein shake for BF and lunch then a "sensible" dinner of a small portion of lean protein and a veggie) starting 2 to 4 weeks pre-op (depending on total pounds needed to lose), then…

Hi all! I've been doing the "prep" stuff since January & think I've finally settled my brain into a Dec 2012 date. My surgeon has said that basically once the psych & GI were done, I could get in whenever I was ready. I was originally aiming for 2nd week of Oct (just realized that's *this* week haha) but wasn't emotionally ready. I'm glad to have found this site. Been flip-flopping since the beginning about VSG vs RNY, even though I wanted VSG initially.

This is my first post on this forum and unfortunately, it's not going to be very positive. I only told my closest friends about having weight loss surgery so the majority of my coworkers are unaware of what I have done. I've lost a lot of weight in the last three months and every day someone has said something about it to my face and/or behind my back. Some of its nice, a lot of it is petty. Does anyone have any tips for dealing with this type of situation?

  24. 7 years ago we bought a used Honda Goldwing GL1800 and rode it quite a bit. Since my surgery we have hardly ridden at all, last year started out with torrential rain storms every weekend then turned off gawd awful hot for months on end. Not conducive to riding at all. I put it up in storage last fall after one or two short jaunts. This weekend was the first time I got it back out, aired up the tires and checked everything out and took a 3 hour ride. I was miserable. My a$$ hurts after about 30 minutes because I have so little padding there now. I've tried beaded seat cushions, memory foam, gel pads and sheep skins and it still just plain hurts. I feel so much smal…

Hi There, I need some advice here. I am 6 days post op and I am able to drink more than the tiny sips now so I am doing that. I just realized the maybe this is a mistake and I could get a leak. I do not gulp but when I drink it is a somewhat normal size drink and not small sips. I hope I didn't cause damage and may get a leak. Also my back of the calfs hurt. Does anyone else get this? I worry about a blood clot although I am walking. Tomorrow is 7 days post op and I was curious if I am ok to try applesauce, refried Beans, cream Soups? I tried a popsicle yesterday and it hurt my pouch. Got bad muscle spasms so I guess I am not ready for that. I don't have a fever or anyt…

Although she said she's not allowed to support one procedure over the other, she explained the difference between the band and the sleeve. What I found out was that the original surgeon I met with ONLY performs band surgery and was not in a position to discuss other options! Now I have a November appointment with a surgeon who does perform the sleeve and he has dates open in November for the surgery!!! I noticed this the other day and thought I was imagining things, but a few days later I was looking through some of my before photos and was shocked at how much more gray hair I had six months ago. I've read a few things online about how people who stopped smoking, drinking, or changed their diet have experienced this. Someone also attributed it to taking vitamins, which I have been diligent about. Just curious to see if anyone else has noticed this.

I will be 3 weeks out tomorrow and this morning I woke up with my right hip/back hurting. As the day went on I thought it might be my kidney so I went to the walk in clinic. The doc didn't feel like it was a bladder infection and said the area where I was hurting was too low for the Kidney. This is more in my right hip/back/pevis. Has anyone heard of this being sleeve releated? Of course any little ache or pain I am worried is a sleeve leak or problem so it could be nothing but wanted to see if anyone had this pain related to the sleeve. Thank you!

I was excited as I got down to having my stress echo, chest x-ray and pre-op bloodwork. Really feeling real, things were finally lining up. Until the stress test. I now have a consult with a cardiologist on Wednesday because the doctor who did the echo "saw something on the front of my heart that indicates CHD - and that's never good." Mind you, he's telling me this as they are just starting to bring my heart rate down, so I really wasn't able to ask any questions. The nurse who was still with me grounded me in the reality of how good it was that if there were concerns, they were looked at now and the fact that I hadn't had chest pain, shortness of breath or other s…

I am severely asthmatic. That being said, I love to go to the gym and I'm there by 5:30a at least 3days a week. Right now, I'm pre-op and working on toning, some general strength training, and just getting into a routine so that hopefully post-op I don't have too many problems. I've noticed that a lot of people post things about Ab class, zumba, spin class, etc... I can't do it. Not without a nebulizer machine strapped to my chest!(At least not until I lose some of this weight) Does anyone have any recommendations for me for now? I look forward to your responses. ~Tammy
