Hi Everybody! I've been thinking hard about this.......maybe too hard my brain hurts! I originally had an appointment with Dr. Craig Taylor at the OClinic North Sydney and booked myself in for the band on October 15th 2012 (not quite sure why, I went in wanting the sleeve). After trawling the internet and forums about the band I completely flipped out and cancelled the surgery (I know Im a chicken) I've been reading a little more about the sleeve and would much prefer it, but at the same time is scares the hell out of me! If I'm going to go ahead it won't be until April next year, not because of any waiting lists or lack of funds, but I just need to give myself t…

Hey everyone! I just wanted to start a thread to introduce myself, but also to hear from other members who might be new to VSG and updates on the progress of those "veteran sleevers". I'd love to hear from all of you! It's such great inspiration to hear your stories, especially since we're all in our twenties. I am 44 yrs old and had my surgery on February 16, 2011. It's been a whirlwind of emotions - as I'm sure you've all experienced. I love knowing that others have been in my exact shoes headed toward a healthier life! I weigh 270 lbs now and have a goal weight of 175. It's really hard to image I will ever get down to that size because I've been huge my whole l…

Hello everyone, This is my first post. I'm currently in the process of losing the weight I need before getting surgery. I need to lose 24lbs so far I've lost 6....my only problem is I keep wanting to eat things that I shouldn't. I know it sounds horrible but I want to eat things before I can't. Don't get me wrong I want/need this surgery! But I can't stop nibbling on random stuff, like brownies, muffins etc. I have a sweet tooth. Anyhoo, what did all y'all do to overcome this. I have been trying to not nibble on things but it hasn't been happening. I need to just buckle down and get this done. Thanks everyone for the support y'all!

I was sleeved on the 22nd by the surgical specialist group of NJ. Dr. Boynton was my doctor as he was awesome. I've been feeling pretty good except for the left side incision. It is really sore probably because it is healing. The only other issue I have is coughing.

hi At 4 months out I posted about my vision that was so much worse than before the surgery.lately my eyes have been red a lot and feels quite dry as well. Quite a few people said that they have found it too but dont know why.My dr said I was getting old and needed glasses..lol Well, while testing for other issues I am having (I've been getting these point bleeds called petechiae on my trunk and my legs,my hands peel all the time,my mouth inside peels all the time) I asked him to test my vit A as well.He didnt want to at first as he says no one really goes low on A. It came back VERY LOW! So,if you think your vision is worse than before the sleeve, test your vit A.…

Hi YALL!!! Just a few question I am being revised from band to sleeve in November. I have had issues but nothing crazy until as of late. I dont want to eat for one because I usually get stuck so meat especially if its dry is a no go, fruit dont think about it. Most of the time Im eating eggs and drinking milk but havent even been doing that. I now get this kind of gurgling in my band when I eat and I dont know what that is, and depending on how i sit or sleep my band will hurts. I also stopped smoking for the surgery way in advance but now I have like this salt taste in my mouth and the back of my throat and I dont know what that is either. If anybody has any possi…

I honestly feel pretty damn good! I can def say I didn't feel this good after the band surgery at all. There were 5 of us done on Monday and I was last! As far as I know I was the only revision done. As soon as I got to my room, I was up to bathroom and took a cpl laps around the floor. Basically every time I got up to bathroom I would walk a few laps. Several of the nurses on that night said I didn't even look like I had surgery and praised me for being up and exercising. I crunched ice chips and sipped Water on and off through the night. By 8am the next day I was up walking for over a half hour. I was then taken down for swallow study and my dr came back up the e…

So I have a really crazy question. When they remove 85% of your stomach what happens to the space that is left after they remove it? Do your other organs shift to accomodate the extra space? Just a thought that keeps running through my mind. My surgery is May 3 and the closer it gets the more crazy things I seem to worry about. I am really really nervous. I have a final appointment with my surgeon on April 17. I hate to go in there like a crazy women asking a bunch of crazy questions. LOL I am truely worried about this can anyone help me?

Ok so some of you have been following me in regards to my gums that have been causing me problems. So I got back my pathology report, and here's the verdict: lichen planus- an inflammatory condition that affects mucous membranes. It is not passed from person to person. It is an immune disorder that occurs when the immune system attacks the cells of the oral mucous membranes. Apparently, it's a chronic condition and the reason for the abnormal immune response is unknown. So I guess I have a super efficient immune system that doesn't know when to stop..LOL. It is treatable, but it is something I will be living with and treating for the rest of my life. And that's better t…

I am both nervous and excited about starting my new journey. Who else has had their band removed and sleeved the same day. Anyone NOT have a pre op diet. All responses would be greatly appreciated!!

I'm new here but my first WLS surgery was 10/07. I got the Gastric Band put in by Dr. Ortiz in Tiajuana, Mexico. Over the next three months I had three fills & got to my 'sweet spot'. Two years later, I had lost 125 pounds. Then I had my gallbladder removed & Drs. found cancer. I had a liver resection, an infection, an unfill, chemo, radiation, many fills & unfills & a leak in my tubing. I went back to TJ. Had my band removed & got the sleeve. I hate it! I went back to have it "tightened". I still hate it! I can still eat anything. I have regained 60 lbs.

I work in a hospital and we had a new admission. I was assigned to that patient but I overheard the nurses talking crap about patients with WLS and how lazy they are! The big nurses were saying how they rather die fat than get WLS and have complications in the future. Well I felt bad for this poor patient.... She didn't even know what was being said of her, and she's to trust these women with her life? It hurt me as well!!! They don't know I had sleeve done and this jus why I kept it a secret with my coworkers! I went home Feeling rather depressed. How do you all handle these type of peeps?

I think i hurt myself today. I was bending over a lot sorting laundry and moving the piles into the laundry room and when i bent over the last time it felt like my stomach was on fire burning on my right middle. When I laid down it felt better but i dont remember hearing not to bend at the waist....did you?? I was trying to do too much but I didnt lift anything heavy... hopefully its not serious. Its not bothering me at all now but I dont want to sit up to see if its still painful. I just want to take it easy the rest of today since I start work tomorrow.

Today marks the 11th day post op. I had a lapband to sleeve revision on the 20th with complications. The day after my surgery I had emergency surgery due to a hermatoma. I was discharged from the hospital 5 days after surgery once stable. I've been slow moving since getting out but feeling better every day. Today I noticed that the incision where the port was taken out was a little tender compared to usual. This evening I changed my dressing and noticed that I had several dots of blood from my port incision. I wasn't expecting any bleeding. It's been a couple hours and I can tell it hasn't dried, still bleeding a bit. Is this normal? I assumed that with the conversion…

Just wanted to see what thoughs were running through everyones head, and what you are expecting as a post op sleever. Right of the bat for me, it just hasn't really hit me, there have been some times at work where ive been really hungry and a Protein Shake didn't cut it, but besides that and my want/need to stock up on Isopure when i get paid (friday), im doing great. I did go to see the doc today because some of my testing came back and my blood wasn't clotting as quickly as it should be so they were concerned and drew a BUNCH of blood and told me they would call me with results when they could. Cant wait til i get back to life after recovering, Looking forward to …

Hey - I'm a major lurker around these parts, but wanted to share with the *world* that I finally got my approval! It was kind of a weird situation - -I was originally scheduled for 10/18, but the insurance company put a hold on my case after deciding that I needed another psychiatric evaluation. I had it done and the new approval came through on 10/18, but of course I missed my date. So they pushed me back until 11/8. I'm to lose 10 lbs by then. I go in for pre-op registration on 11/7. I AM THRILLED! My lesson to share for all is to keep fighting. If the insurance company says NO, then please keep fighting. Find other documentation or justification to fo…

Hi everyone, Just went to my surgeon to sign the papers and was given a bunch of papers about what to do 2 weeks before surgery and then after. Bought the bariatric Vitamins and shakes for pre-op. I have been on this web site for over 4 months faithfully reading all the posts and comments. I thought I knew what I was getting into but now I am not sure. I am really confused. It seems I will be eating and drinking all day long the first 2 weeks after surgery. Then heaven only knows. My husband is against this and said yesterday "Are you sure you want to do this?". Now I don't know. Since I left the doctors office I have done nothing but eat. Please help me.

I feel like a loser for posting this.. But all o a sudden I'm realizing that I may look completely different.. And maybe not in a good way? November 12 is soooo close and I'm scared.

Hi All!! I am constantly looking for new friends on here that are going to be new sleevers in the DFW area so I thought I would see how this forum worked! Soooo... Here's the plan =) I would like to see if we can get a "support" group going on here so we can follow each other and be able to keep in touch on and off the board (unless you would only like to be contacted VSG board, just let us know!) I would like to maybe even get together as a group for lunch/dinner or whatever! I think that having a close knit "sleever family" (lol) would be so great to have =) Reply if interested and let's see what we can put together?!? Here is a little info about me!! My name is Ton…

So, I was watching a video by dr Alvarez and he said that if you have a larger stomach he uses a larger bougie and smaller stomach =smaller bougie. Them I see se surgeons say they use x size, always. I've also heard people say " I think my sleeve is bigger than others, I can eat way more than other sleeve patients". I don't want that!!! Where can I read about drs success rates? Maybe that is what I need to be looking at? Sent from my iPhone using VST

Hard to believe but tomorrow is the big day! I'm very excited and ready to be on the road to slim-dom again! Also, last week I found out an ex-coworker of mine is also being sleeved tomorrow, right before me. I teased her and told her I'm glad the Dr. was practicing on her first, lol. This whole time I was nervous for nothing lol. Only 2 months to go!

I am 2 months out today, and when I weighed this morning I was so elated because I'm down 40 lbs from my pre-surgery weight. Unfortunately my elation didn't last for long. ;( I am a private person, so I haven't told anyone at work that I had WLS. When people say something about my weight loss I cringe and stumble through the whole, "I'm working really hard, under a DRs & NUTs care, no carb, low fat, no sugar, blah, blah, blah" schpiel. I hate addressing people's curiosity, and because 2 other ladies in my office had WLS in the last few years, I'm sure that some people are digging for info. I usually manage to brush these encounters off, but today was different. …

So I was scheduled for surgery tomorrow, 10/29, but because of the storm that will be here soon, my surgery is getting cancelled. Delaware is under a state of emergency and there is a driving ban in effect. Oh well, I guess that means I can eat normally for a few more weeks. lol. I know it will most likely be a month or more before they can reschedule it. As long as everyone stays safe in this storm, I can't really complain too much about rescheduleing my surgery.

So I'm scheduled for Oct 31 for my band to sleeve conversion. Timing and pricing is so perfect for everything, but my hubby is not on board with the surgery at all. I was trying to be understanding to his concerns, and prove to him that risks of the surgery are worth the potential weight loss for me. I know he loves me, and has a hard time communicating his feelings at times, so I'm seeing his actions as just being a man. I think he's worried, he'll be a widow. I need his support. I don't want to do this without his support. Even if he doesn't agree, I still feel like he should still be there to support me. In an effort to passively bring up the fact t…
