I don't know if it's happened to many other pre-op folks, but I had the EGD and they ended up finding a stomach ulcer and inflammation of the lower esophagus. Boo I have to have another EGD in 2 months to check things out again. I'm hoping this won't be permanent, and that I'll be healed up so that I can still have the VSG. I took the news hard, because I was finally almost ready to get submitted to my insurance and losing a bit of weight. So I went right into my usual 'all-or-nothing' way of thinking these past 2 weeks...and I ate, and ate,...and ate. (Really good for the ulcer, I'm sure.) Not happy to admit it...but it is what it is, and I just gotta move forward. So…

I was sleeved Nov 3rd in TJ with Dr. Lopez through ALighterMe. I would love to talk to ANYONE regardless of Dr or company they are using about being sleeved in TJ. I know it's a scary idea to leave the country and have a major surgery, but I did it, I would do it again in a heartbeat, and while I think the company and Dr. I used are the best, I don't think any of the otehrs are any less skilled or great. Let's be in this together for the right reasons. Contact me with questions, concerns, anything, I am happy to talk!

Hey everyone I just wanted to tell everyone what is going on and hopefully i can get some advise....i had my surgery on the 8th and i've lost only 11 lbs but ive been stalled at 11 lbs for like 4-5 days..what is going on??so I looked at what i'm doing and the only thing i can think of that may have caused the problem is cream of potato soup that i've had several times..they said cream soups were fine and i haven't liked the chicken or mushroom or the broths very much so tried the potato and when i looked today after not losing anymore it says that it has 15 g carbs and i'm just not sure if that is bad or not and if that caused me to not lose or if im doing good but in a …

I had my surgery yesterday (11/15/12). Finally, it feels like I waited forever. It didn't help that my surgery had to be rescheduled because of hurricaine Sandy. I am so happy that I am done and can't wait to start losing the punds. I don't feel too miserable either. Though I was in extreme pain and very nauseated when they first woke me up. Now I have a patient controlled pain pump which is AWESOME! The drain is painful and that is what hurts the worst. No more nausea since they gave me shot of phenergan and the ice chips have helped a lot for the dry mouth. The only thing I am worried about is that I am really going to miss eating. Obviously, I love eating and…

How many had the revision to sleeve via laparoscopic and how many had open. I've heard it's dangerous to have this surgery laparoscopic because of leaks while others that have it open usually have hernias later. The reason the question is I'm trying to decide to have the surgery (have band issues and the doctors say its necessary) I have two doctors that I'm trying to decide between and one idles it laproscopic and says its the only way and very safe....the other says its NOT safe and will only do it open. "???????Help with real life answers from those that have lived it.... Thank you

I am pre-op and will finally be sleeved Dec 17. It seems like it'll take forever for the day to arrive. Im sitting at the airport and thinking about all the things I can't wait to do. And being able to comfortably sit in a seat during a flight is one of the things I can't wait to do. Feeling like everyone is looking in my direction hoping I won't sit next to them as I walk down the plane is one of the worst feelings. What are some things you pre-opers or newly sleeved folks can't wait to do?

After the initial recovery time and feeling confident in my ability to stay hydrated, I thought I was in a position to really enjoy the weight loss and my new life. I recently had a bout of constipation. I took some mild pill laxatives and it helped. But during and since then I have been feeling pain again similar to that I felt right after the surgery. I think it feels similar to the inflammation we experience. Can constipation cause this? Is what I'm feeling inflammation? It feels the same as when I was first in to recovery. It has me a bit worried. Maybe I should go back on liquids for a few days. Any insight would be so appreciated.

When I did the hcg diet, I felt super weak and faint, so much so that I had to have OJ and I didn't know if I'd make it to the fridge. For those Of you that don't know, hcg is a 500 calorie diet.(that I made it to day 6 on and no further, twice) It's virtually zero carb tho, maybe that's what did it. I just left the house with the kids and went to sonic for a bunch of French toast sticks. It made me feel so much better. I supposedly have hypoglycemia and I'm wondering how the 300-500 calories after surgery are goin to do me. I wonder if I'll feel so weak and about to pass out again. it.

Went to the info seminar today. Thanks to my endless research (and all the good info on this and other sites), I learned exactly NOTHING at the seminar except, of course, how to get to the hospital. Which is a good thing to know, right?? I should get a call in a week or two to schedule an appointment with the surgeon. I'm pretty excited to see what happens next! This whole process has helped me stress less about knowing what would happen next. Whatever happens, happens. And I'm okay with that. I did also get my starting weight while I was there. It was a number I was not looking forward to seeing... but at least now I know! Today's weight: 459. Eek. And I've actual…

I missed my last surgery date due to a hospitalization for emergency spinal surgery 1.5 month ago. I have now been out the hospital for two weeks and I am ready to get sleeved. I have approval from my neurosurgeon and the medical director of the bariatric practice. Has anyone had a similar experience? I would like to know how you dealt with taking the necessary painkillers and medicine with a reduced stomach capacity, and your mental state of mind.

Today was out shopping with a friend for some early holiday stuff. I knew I had to get some new work pants soon. My pants have gotten seriously baggy and uncomfortable since surgery on 10/08. Even still, I felt a feeling of impending doom as we approached the mall. Heart racing, past memories and some negative vibes. Luckily I overcame and found a great sale and the fact that that I went down 2 pant sizes this month. Actually prep op I was maxing out that invisible waist extender, so I'll count it a little more. My pants fit great. I looked so much smaller. Felt awesome. Alone in my dressing room I saw the victory in this. It was very emotional, my old fears were unfoun…

The thought of waiting another 3 months for surgery has me feeling really stagnant. I'm a SAHM and because of my weight, I have social anxiety and I get panicky. (I know the social anxiety is directly related to my weight because I've lost 60 lbs before, putting me at 176 and I was on cloud 9. Still a little socially awkward but not panicky. ) I'm planning on getting on new anti depressants and I know three months will fly but man it seems like forever away. I never go anywhere, I have two shirts I can wear in public and can't (and don't really want to) buy more, so ya not like there's much I can do to pass the time. Honestly, I've already skipped halloween, 2 family b…

I'm just in the process of researching the sleeve. I have my initial consultation at the end of the month. I've gotten a lot of great info from this site, but I can't find the answer to a question I've been wondering about. I see all of these pics and posts of people who get below their goal weight. So when you get to goal, how do you stop losing? I have the lapband and that's adjustable or at least it was when it was working. The sleeve obviously isn't adjustable. I'd be interested in hearing anyone's thoughts on this. Thanks!!

Hi, my name is ICanDoThisVA and I'm a food addict. I'm also a real picky eater. And today, I had such a small victory. At the grocery store, I picked up some healthier meats (like salmon and turkey meatballs) and cleaned out my freezer. Everything in the freezer went - left over birthday ice cream cake, the hot dogs, the pizzas, even some old ground hamburger with freezer burn that was buried in the back. I'm hoping to try out some new foods now and will feel more comfortable about finding things I like post-surgery (and not reaching out for the things I used to like pizza - which I used to say would cover all the food groups in one meal). I don't know what possesse…

Alright, here is the deal. When I spoke to my primary care physician about bariatric surgery (at the time I was considering the lap band), he made it clear he was not a fan of that at all and encouraged me to just make a greater effort at losing weight all on my own. I totally get that, it's not like I can just get sleeved and let it do all the work for me...for true success and long-term results, I have to use the sleeve correctly as the tool it was meant to be! When I told my mom that our physician wasn't all that crazy about me getting the surgery, she made a very valid point...He may be a doctor, but he is not the one that has to live in your body... To top it all off…

I wasn't sure where to ask this question so I thought I should start in the general discussion forum.. So since compression garments are heavily used when lipo suction (and other weightloss plastics) is/are done, would they help with our type of weight loss? I have been looking into some to wear during my "honeymoon" phase to hopefully help prevent or lessen sagging skin. Has anyone tried it?

Well I just found this group--which is fabulous!!-- and wanted to ask for prayers for God's will. Yes, although I have what I think I want, I'd rather ask for His perfect will for this journey. I've gone through what I need to to submit my first try into the insurance company. I am hoping that they don't require a 6 month diet or if they do they will take my previous documented 2, 3 month diets. I really want/need to have my surgery before the end of the year as I am already off of work for another surgery. Prayers please for Oct. 31st when I have hand surgery. I hope it helps me.

Hi- I have been having a lot of issues since this surgery. First week was hell. I've never been able to get all the protein and liquid in. Now in my 4th week, I ended up in the hospital for 7 nights! Nothing surgically wrong with my sleeve but I cannot keep anything down. Constantly throwing up. The doctor is baffled. Basically they came to the conclusion that my esophagus is spasming and they put me on meds. Got out of the hospital on Monday and still not feeling 100%. I'm regretting this surgery big time. I just want to feel normal! I hate this!!! When will this all get better? Please help!

Hey everyone, my name in Monica I just got sleeved last Saturday and I've been feeling great... A little bit (or a lot maybe I don't really remember) of pain first day.. Did recall getting some pain meds but right now I seem to have forgotten if and how actually painful it really was... After that a bit of discomfort while I was at the hospital but walking helped a lot!!! The nurses said they have never seen a patient walk so much during their first days!! My dr is really happy with how things are working out... He said that by the smile on my face and the way I was sitting and moving without any help or problems he knew I was gonna be fine... He said he was gonna g…

I've been stewing over this for days. I haven't told many people that I'm considering VSG, just 4. My hubby, my mom, and two of my closest friends. Everyone was supportive, understanding, and I felt like it gave me the 'backbone' to do it. One friend told me last week, that she has been lying to me; that she doesn't want me to have WLS, doesn't think I should, that there has to be another way. She is scared for me and afraid I'll get some kind of infection. It's not like I even talk about VSG that much with her. She's watched my daughter for one of my appointments and so I've filled her in on that appointment. She also mentioned tat she's concerned about the diet ill be …

so this one is pretty much for the ladies: i've been dressing rockabilly for YEARS now and i get my threads from a bunch of places. YES they're pricey...but aren't all rockabilly clothes pretty damn expensive anyway? haha ok so the places i go to are: Torrid, Forever 21 (they have a plus size section), and sometimes you find some pretty amazing things on plussizepinup online. my main tip would be to look for unconventional styles and prints and it usually works out pretty well. Also, etsy is pretty awesome.

I went to a consultation at some fitness/herbal place that helps with different things like weight loss, toning the skin, body modification, acne, etc. Anyways i heard that they do pre-op detoxing to help surgery recuperation and they do different treatments post op. The lady who consulted me had some nerve to tell me not to do it. That I will regret it. That everyone that she knows whose done it has suffered. That I will only lose 50lbs with the sleeve and that most likely i'll gain it right back. I'm like wtfudge? She tried to convince me out the surgery telling me that I should just do a 3 month package for $1750 that will help me lose weight. And that she advi…
