Hi All: I started my liquid diet today. .I only have to do a week...as my revision surgery from lapband to vsg is Dec. 20th. Anywho, just wanted to get feedback on what or how you maintained your focus while on the diet. Right now I am at work and my stomach is growling big time.. Of course everyone here is talking about food and holiday parties..cocktail recipes..I just want to get out of here. ..maybe if I go shopping on lunch that would help...any suggestions...? Please Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using VST

What is one thing you wish someone had told you about gastric surgery? Good or bad. No matter how much I research, I fifigure'll still miss something, hence the question.

So extremely excited. Started the whole process back in June...and can now breathe because insurance approved Monday and they called with the date today! 1/10/2013! Starting to get a bit nervous, but more than ready to do it! Counting down the days now. At least the wait won't seem so long since the kids keep me pretty busy and we have Christmas around the corner. I have a feeling the time will fly by! YAY!!!

For me each day has been better and today I actually got dressed and went for a ride with my husband for awhile...it was nice to get off the couch Nothing really taste good but I think that maybe a good thing.

I've always been plus sized, but I've never really let it get me down. I've always thought I was pretty hot, anyway! But it seems like the closer I get to surgery, the more disgusted I feel with the way I look. And I've already lost nearly 50lbs! Maybe it's because I've had a kid now, maybe it cuz I'm turning 30 next month, maybe it's because I'm finally facing that I've gotten so big I need to have surgery to get to a healthy weight. I'm just not sure. Then today I was in the bathroom and noticed a weird wrinkle on my inner thigh and realized it's a freaking vericose vein. I wanted to crawl under a rock. Has anyone else suddenly started developing body image issues as …

I just had the sleeve done in October and now have a friend interested in WLS but he wants to have the band because he doesn't want to have anything cut inside. Having read all the horror stories about bands slipping, eroding, etc. I want to be able to talk him out of getting the band and going with the sleeve. Any suggestions???

  9. I was sleeved on June 18, 2012, and as of today I'm down 100 lbs! I still can't believe it's me in the mirror! My favorite benefit of this surgery is that my husband can't keep his hands off of me! I am so grateful that I had this surgery, and would do it again in a heartbeat! The first 2 pics are today, Dec 12, 234 lbs, the last 3 are from Feb & May 2012, 334.9 lbs. I still have 57 lbs till I get to goal, and I have no doubt that I will make it!

I will be 3 months post op on Wednesday and have officially lost 60lbs. I know it's not as much as some others have lost but I'm ecstatic. I try not to worry about what others have lost but it's hard sometimes but I try to think of it this way...I'm only 3lbs from being in onederland:-) the last time I was in the 100's I was in high school. Just thought I would share my happiness with everyone:-)

Had my surgery on 3/14...but latley I am so blue. Is this normal? I feel like the best part of me was cutout right along with 80 percent of my stomach. I am adapting well to my new lifestyle and honeslty somewhat impressed with my self. Had a few bumps but caught my self real quick with the new rules. However I feel so out of sorts and and blue...to the point where I dont want to get out of bed much less anything else. Is it normal to be this blue 4 weeks out of surgery. Why I am going crazy? I thought things would be an adjustment but now I am really starting to regret my choice to get the sleeve. any ideas? I feel like I am holding on by a thread.

So excited. After getting so close on November 6 and only getting my gall bladder removed instead of GB removal and sleeve, I went for my follow up today and set a new date of December 11. I was never so happy to start a diet (Pre op)!! Continued success to you all and have a Very Happy Thanksgiving!!!

I was sleeved on 10\23 and have found that I have become very clumsy...I lose my balance easily...basically I look like a stumbling drunk sometimes which would explain the large number of bumps and bruises I am rocking! Any one else find that they are not a graceful sleever?

  17. Today is December 10, and the first time I have had solid food since September 12. I've lost over 50 pounds, but my husband says I'm a nutritional trainwreck - and he's right. My 4 year old daughter hears everyone tell mommy how great she looks, and then listens to me throw up after every meal. She confided to her preschool teacher about how worried she is about her mommy. :/ I'm a 37 year old stay at home mom with 2 kids - a 4 year old girl and an 18 month old boy. My journey started well. I had an easy surgery and was up and moving immediately. I caught up on my TV viewing courtesy of Netflix as I wandered the halls of the surgical center that first night. Th…

Hi Everyone, Well, I am approaching almost 3 years of being sleeved by Dr. Aceves in Mexicali, Mexico. He is the very best doctor I could have ever gone too, and his staff are all GREAT. It has been the best thing I have ever done for myself. I was the person who thought "what if I am the one person that this will not work on?". I was 63 when I had WLS. Well that was the wrong thing to think. I am the person that this DID work on. It does take effort and work on my part to make this all happen. I tried to thank Dr. Aceves for what he did for me. He said "I only gave you the tool, you did all the work yourself, so take the credit for being successful." So,…

Anyone else go through this? Any advice? I keep thinking of the episode of Next Generation when they couldn't sleep and it was driving everyone crazy.

  24. Started by amytug,

This is so discouraging to me. I thought my mom was on my side as far as surgery goes. She has seen me fluctuate up and down and yo-yo diets over and over over the last 12 years. I am sick and tired of it. I am ready to do something permanent. And I am willing to put in the hard work. . I don't understand why today she is telling me that I have a lots of emotional reasons why I gained the weight. Eating when I am bored, eating when I am lonely, eating when I am stressed. Eating because it's sugar and my body craves sugar. I know all of these things and I know that I still will have a long road ahead of me surgery or no surgery. But this is my last ditch effort and I fee…

So... I was sleeved on 10/22... and sometimes feel discouraged because I am "only" down 36.5lbs... BUT. Today? I went into a back closet at home and am wearing an outfit that I have not worn in ... oh, heck, I have no idea - a LONG time. And? When I saw my primary care physician two weeks ago, my blood pressure was low enough that she took me off of my blood pressure meds... and told me to check in in two weeks to see how I was doing. I stopped in the office today and my BP was 120/79. NO MORE HBP! So, although the weight is not "dropping" off as fast as I had imagined, I am off of two medications, wearing smaller clothes, and have been working out DAILY on the trea…

  30. As we all know, some of us get a touch of reflux after being sleeved. I am happen to be one of those lucky sleevers! What do you take for reflux? What has worked best if you have tried multiple medications/treatments. (I have a little secret...I have been drinking coffee and I heard that is a no/no...so starting tomorrow, I will skip my daily cup or two of coffee to see if that helps.) I was taking Prevacid Solutab, which worked wonderfully, but they are way to expensive (my insurance doesn't cover it). I am currently taking Zegrid. Not really doinig the job, so I am turning to my VSG Community for some insight! ;0)

Finally after a long process my band is out. I had it removed on Friday. Recovery has been tough. Lots more pain than I remember in getting the band. Every movement that involves my tummy muscles hurts Like $#@&. Just glad it is out. I will be scheduling the sleeve with Dr Garcia after my 2wk checkup with my us Dr. I currently have cobra insurance that will expire in march. My Dr said I need to wait 6mths before we even discuss the sleeve. Therefore I will be self pay anyway and had originally decided to go yo Garcia when I felt my doctors weren't listening to me.

Currently I am 6'4" and 320lbs and have tried all sorts of diets and drugs but the weight comes right back. Its nice to be recognized as the BIG GUY in uniform but now its getting to the point of people looking at me differently. I can see that as I have gotten older (now 39) they look at me and under estimate me, and thats not the way its been. I'm 42 and single with no kids. At this stage of my life I wouldn't call myself a "party girl", but I do still on occasion enjoy going out and having drinks and sometimes taking a cab home because it wouldn't be a good idea to drive. It's pretty infrequent now, but something I still enjoy. I realize that this probably won't be the same for me if I have the VSG surgery, but I thought I would ask how it would change. What are the recommendations you have gotten from your doctors? What are some of your personal experiences? Do you have to wait a certain amount of time after surgery before having any alcohol? Is it something you have to give up forever? Thanks.

I want the sleeve...he said since I've not lost all my weight with the lapband...a bypass would be better for me. He said after a year the "non-hungry part of removing the Guerhln gland stops..so the malabsorption and restrictiviness of the bypass is better. I have arthritis in My knees and can't fathom not being able to take nasaids for the rest of my life. If I were able to lose a SIGNIFICANT amount of weight, I would not be in this predicament. I see my NUT on Tuesday and, well, I'm a big, fat (no pun intended) failure! I've had my ups and downs the last month. I definitely learned that I had some terrible eating patterns when I thought I was eating 'healthy'. I strived to make changes, but it's two steps forward and one step back. These eating habits are so ingrained. I don't feel weak or anything. Just don't want to be losing my hair and such faster than I need to. Getting in at least two protein shakes a day. My stomach is certainly active. I used to gulp water like crazy. It is difficult to switch to small sips. Often I feel everything is stuck in my throat, if I take two gulps in a row without thinking. It is a new way to life and I am adjusting. No regrets. I am baking my Christmas cookies and making meals for my husband (empty nester),…

Hi All, My Surgery was 20 months ago. I am now about 12 lbs below my original goal of 135 (Ht: 62.5"). I began with my surgeon's plan but found it too restrictive. I then followed the Cornell plan down to goal weight and below. Then I kinda fell off the wagon. Last year I could eat anything and not gain, in fact for a few months, I was trying to put a couple lbs back on. Beginning in August, my weight began to creep back up. I gained about 5 lbs (from 120 to 125). Most of the gain came from 1) being able to eat more and 2) sweets. I've always had a sweet tooth, and sadly the surgery didn't end that. So on Ash Wednesday, I went back on the Cornell Plan which involves 3 h…

Tried on the 14 and they're a little baggy too! lol so I'm in a 14! (originally a 22 4 months ago!) grandmother picked me up a medium top last weekend and it fit. Thought it was a fluke. Got a medium top for me yesterday, tried it on today and it fits!!! (originally an xl-xxl) I kind of want to leave the giant sizing stickers on to show what size Im wearing and how much I've lost lol Also bought my first ever pair of skinny jeans! They never fit my calves and looked wretched. I make em look gooooooood now hehe

Even though I have my date, I still have 3 more appointments to attend. 2 on the same day and 1 in November. I am hoping to make it to Support Group Meeting on tomorrow since I don't have school. This will be the 1st meeting I will have attended since March. So are you planning your excercises? Are you trying Protein Drinks or shakes? Are you purchasing little by little items needed for surgery? The time will go by quickly...do not be caught off guard. Until next time....
