In 2010 I had a lap band, in 2011 while 20 Wks pregnant my band slipped & I had to have it removed:-( I had to regain all that weight to meet bmi requirements to have the sleeve procedure done. Now I'm just awaiting insurance approval. In a lot of ways I very depressed that I regained all this wait, but I know that the sleeve has got to be a better choice for me. Now why I am scared... I am an ER nurse & it seems there are so many complications with bariatric surgery...ppl I wrk with seem to roll there eyes when a bariatric pt with complications comes in & the thought of something going wrong wit…

  4. I thought I was a November but it turns out I'm a December. The Novembers are a great group who really stuck together to give each other support. They mostly stick to one continuous thread so it's easy to stick together and keep up with everyone. Maybe we can do the same? What do ya'll think? By the way, I'm December 21st. ~Dana

Hey everyone my name is Paige and I am getting sleeved on Thursday December 20, 2012. I stumbled onto this site when looking for info on what to bring to the hospital and what to expect. I have read many inspirational stories on here and I hope to add mine in the future. I am 18 and I weigh 285 lbs. I have always been heavy even when I was a child. When I turned 18 I had this moment of realization that I am an adult and that I want to be healthy and live a long life. My mother was also very heavy and seeing her day after day suffer with diabetes and other health problems prompted me to get this surgery done. I have the support of my family and I hope to be able to support…

Hey all! I'm 4'10" and pre-op. Hoping to have my surgery in April. Gotta jump through all of the UHC hoops. I live in Union County, NJ and am doing the surgery with the New Jersey Bariatric Center at Overlook Hospital. I'm so excited to be here and to meet other fun-sized people that are going on this journey, as well.

  8. Started by JerseyGirlJodi,

Hi guys! My name is Jodi and I'm from Northern NJ. I started this process 4 months ago, by first attending a seminar. I currently have Aetna but am switching to United Healthcare as of January 1. So, going by their requirements, I have to have 6 consecutive visits (one each month), a BMI of 40 or 35-39 with 2 (I think) comorbidities, and a 5-year weight history. I just had my 3rd appointment last week. So, 3 more to go. I'm hoping for surgery in April. I look forward to getting to know more pre-op people, so we can travel this journey together.

Did you get on the scale today? I didn't! I am 12 days post op and down 20 pounds. My wife and kids say my face is very thin. So, I weighed myself yesterday and the scale hasn't moved in three days... Perhaps I'm being critical. I'm eating 500 calories a day maybe and wonder if my bod went into starvation mode. If so, how could I jump start it again? Have a great day everyone!

Might be kind of fun to see what others are striving for in 2013 (assuming we make it past this Friday ) lol 1.) I want to be 100lbs lighter starting the New Year, which means I have 12# to drop in exactly 2 weeks! Lofty, but it's what I want! 2.) Do a 5k every month, and towards the end of the year do a sprint-triathlon 3.) Build my muscles back 4.) Hit my goal weight 5.) Never look back on the unhealthy habits I developed!!!! 6.) The BIGGEST one of all... I want to learn how to two-step!!! It looks like fun, and it's all they do at bars in Fort Worth! haha

Hi ladies. I'm new to the site and today is my first day posting. I was banded in 2008 and that has not worked out (for me). My surgeon mentioned revision to me today. I was actually glad because it is something that I'd been wanting to do but didn't mention to him since I haven't had any erosion or slips. If you are a convert, will you please share your experiences with me? The only person that knows I have a Lap-Band is my husband. I'm kind of glad, because I failed. I have mentioned the sleeve to a friend and a cousin and didn't get great "approval ratings". I'm ok with that...they're both small... ha! Hubs is fully supportive. He's cool with me as I am now, …

Started my journey on May 1st 2012. Finally got my date, December 17th 2012. I was so excited! Till my friend that has no filter saids " What if you die?? Your kids will have a horrible Christmas!" Now I am second guessing my date. My boys are 6 years old. They look so forward to Christmas. Eventhough, I better not die. But I also don't to put a damper on their day, if I am not feeling well. Wondering if I should wait till after Christmas.

Hey all! I'm 3 weeks post op today, from band to sleeve revision. I really did not work on my bad habits of drinking alcohol before surgery. Now at 3 weeks out, I'm feeling great, and I'm dying for a glass of wine. Since I can't have wine, then I'm grabbing a piece of dark choc. If I don't have that I'm reaching for my leftover pain meds. I'm feel like I'm controlling these urges but they are coming on stronger. This is only at night too, that was my nightly routine, after 5, glass of wine. I have a very addictive personality obviously, and I'm worried. I don't want to talk about this to my surgeon bc I already feel like she looks at me as a failure bc of the Lapland. …

I am under 10 months post op. I've hit my goal and could not be happier with my sleeve. But for the past month, I have had bouts of pain in my back around my ribcage, sometimes going to the front of my abdomen. Very uncomfortable; I can't seem to get in a position for relief. But the pain isn't unbearable. This happened about 3-4 times a week, for a couple of hours each time. I assumed it was just back pain. Last week after supper, I began having this horrid pain that started in my back that expanded around my rib cage to my stomach area. I was crying and couldn't find a position for any relief again. Incredibly painful, but I was afraid to go to the ER for fear o…

I'm not too worried about fatigue because I only have to be there an hour most days then I can come home and rest if I need to. I am, however, wondering about being able to wear normal (button/zip up) pants. I have read so much advice about wearing stretchy pants to and from the hospital so as not to bother the incision sites, but I'm not sure how long I should wear stretchy pants. I don't have a clear concept of where the incision sites will be yet, but I am wondering if I will need to invest in some stretchy pants for work because I don't really own anything like that or if I s…

I came online to look at some things and update my tickers with my new weight. and dam I realized im down 8.8 Pounds or 4kgs since Op day. My doctor is happy with this and while distracted going through my notes as I talked to him. He announces your now below the weight you were when you first came to see me 3yrs ago for the band. Now I need to focus on healing over the next few months. The weight loss as a result is just a bonus Or Am I looking at it the wrong way???

  26. How long after you saw the surgeon did you get your surgery date? I had the first appointment with mine on July 16th. then he gave me another month to lose 10 lbs. and finish all of my testing. Today I had a phone appoint. with the nurse practitioner and he told me maybe another month after I see the surgeon. That means 2 looooong months of waiting. It's killing me because I have to plan my classes ahead of time and it's slowing me down. Thanks.

Went to a military ball with my hubs last night. I've been in a stall for 3 weeks and pretty frustrated. Luckily, I fit into a dress I got to wear once after lapband surgery! Money is tight so I couldn't afford to buy new, but I sure will in the spring when I'm much smaller. I decided to weigh this morning too, and MY STALL IS BROKEN!!!!!! Woohoo! 2 more lbs gone forever! So, now I'm down 34 lbs total since my surgery October 9th. Can't wait to see how this plays out. Oh and I read on here that someone liked the salmon burgers from Costco so I picked some up. I have to say, they are AMAZING! Yum-o!!!!

I must be going a little Wacko Jacko since it is getting so close to my surgery date. I have twice dreamt that I am on the surgery table and the surgeon and all the nurses and staff are totally making fun of me in spanish. "Hey guys we sure got ourselves a real big one this time." "She sure could of used a sharper razor on those legs and pits." I am knocked out during this time, but I can totally hear them and understand them (I don't speak spanish). In my head I am screaming "Hey *@$holes I can totally hear you!"

I am having surgery January 9th, and I feel like crying... I don't know why. I feel disappointed in myself for letting my weight get this out of control. I can't believe that I am 18 years old about to have bariatric surgery. I am in a panic about it. I know most people are excited or nervous, but I just feel pathetic. I know it will pass and in the long run I will be glad I did it. I should be happy, because I am going to get to live like I never have before. But, right now, I feel worse about myself than I ever have. Is this normal? Has anyone else felt this way? how long till it passes?
