  1. You could try some ground turkey (or beef whichever you prefer) brown the meat, mix with a little gravy (I used fat free gravy) and put it over some mashed potatoes. Or cook chicken then shred (or use a store bought rotisserie chicken) it mix it with a little gravy (again I use Fat Free) and eat with mash potatoes. Both of these I at about 1/4 cup TOTAL. Or try shredded chicken with taco seasoning and melt some cheese overtop and top with salsa maybe a little sour cream if you enjoy it... Buy or Make meatballs (again I make mine with ground turkey) mash them up and mix with really good marinara sauce and top with some riccotta cheese. Your problem with dense protien may be that it is to dry. Esspecially since youre not drinking with your meals any longer. This was my problem at first as well. While people may flame me for suggesting you eat gravy... The suggestions above came from my Nutritionist. And I am not telling you to eat gravy by the spoonful! You can PM me and I will give you some more ideas if you'd like.
  2. Where is central NJ are you from? I grew up in Hamilton/Yardville but now we live in Bordentown.
  3. I am in Bordentown NJ... More Southern/Central... It would be awesome to keep in touch... I was going to do the Lap Band as well, before going to my consult with my surgeon I was fully set on it. Then he felt the sleeve would be good for me. I did some more research and now I am set on the VS! Do you have a surgery date yet?
  4. Hi Carisa. my name is Kelly. I am also from NJ... We have alot of the same stats I am 5'5 and 245. I have a 3 year old and I was on strict bed rest during my pregnancy after 12 weeks. I am having my sleeve done on 12/12. Right now I am in the 3 months of seeing a nutritionist to prepare me for success after WLS that my insurance requires to approve my surgery. Where in NJ are you from? Maybe we could keep in touch and motivate eachother!
  5. I have to have a 3 month supervised diet, per my surgeons office, in order to pretty much guarentee my insurance will pay for my surgery. And luckily they offer that service to their patients free of charge. So I have scheduled all of my apointments with the nut. Also since I have a deductible with my plan that I already met for this year my suregons scheduler agreed to schedule me for my surgery before she gets the approval (which they usually dont do) so I am scheduled for Dec 7th!! I have my last appointment with the nut at the end of October, they will send the final paperwork to the insurance company then. I could have scheduled my surgery for November but I figured with Thanksgiving and everything I should just schedule it for the begining of Dec, then I will have time to be back on my feet completely before Christmas! Good Luck with everything!!
  6. I work in the "insurance field" for a brokerage company... Typically if your insurance company specifically tells you something is an "exclusion" it means it is NOT a covered benefit... When you directly call your insurance company they are looking at your plan directly. Sometime in a Drs off the Insurance Coordinater is just speaking for an Insurance company in general. I would call Anthem's precertification department directly and ask if your plan covers the specific procedure that you are having done and what your specific benefits are... They will be able to tell you everything inculding all of your out of pocket costs, what requirements there are prior to surgery ie supervised diets, weight history, etc... Personally I wouldn't trust the Drs office with this matter, maybe the insurance coordinator had spoken to someone about your plan directly have you asked?? Hope this all helps!! Good Luck!!!
