Do You Ever Wake Up......

Recommended Posts

Do you ever wake up second guessing your self?

For the past couple of days I have been contemplating not having the surgery thinking I can do this by myself. In reality I know I can't. But I think to myself that since I don't have much weight to lose I don't need the surgery. Then I know that losing the 50+ lbs. will help me control my comorbitities. I've been driving myself crazy with this. I almost think that's why the dr.'s give so much time in between appointments so we can think things over.

Have you been thru this? Maybe I'm just scared of the after math. Maybe if there are any complications I don't know.

I did, but I knew me. I had lost about 60 lbs on Nutrisystem but then gained it all back plus some. I think it is natural to feel this way. But for me, I knew that even if I succeeded at losing weight myself, my tendency would be to put it back on again. I had these feelings right before I went into surgery. I am so happy I went through with it. This is a tool to help us learn to how to eat again. It has changed my life for the better and I have never regretted my decision. :) Good luck!!

Thank you. I think I'm just having a hard time dealing with the CPAP machine and feel that if I fail at it I won't have the surgery. I don't know. Deep down I want the surgery, I NEED the surgery to control my diabetes.

THanks again.

I used to use a CPAP machine and I had high blood pressure. I was close to being diabetic prior to surgery. I no longer have sleep apnia and I no longer have high blood pressure because of my weight loss and my blood sugar levels are normal now. :)

Yes, I did the same thing. In reality, yes, you COULD do it without the surgery. You could lose weight, then life starts happening again and it all comes back. For me, the sleeve FORCED me into a life change. I needed that. I was queen of losing 30-40 lbs and then gaining back 50-60. I have now lost 73 lbs and feel great!

Yes. I've being sleeved tomorrow and have really been second guessing myself. But deep down I know this is something I need to do for my health and quality of life. Sure I've lost a little weight before but I've always gained it back. For me, what it boils down to is what do do I love more-life or food?

I was all set to do this two years ago and then talked myself out of it, convinced that I could do it on my own. I don't know why I convinced myself of this, because I would always lose 30-40 lbs and then gain it all back and then some. By the end of my "doing it on my own" I weighed 20 lbs more. At that point I made up my mind to go through with it and had six months of required NUT counceling for insurance. During that time I had plenty of time to contemplate and second guess. I had cold feet all the way up to surgery day. I was sleeved on June 4th. I have lost more weight I have ever been able to lose doing it on my own and I know it will stay off this time. I feel wonderful and healthy. I still have 65 more pounds to go, but now I have the tool to actually do it this time. My only regret is that I did not do this two years ago!

Yes I did second guess myself before the surgery. It's difficult making a life changing decision like this. It's scary. A few ***hts before surgery I almost had a panic attack like WHAT IF I CAN NEVER EAT THIS OR THAT AGAIN? And it sounds really silly now, but I was really freaking. Not to mention that any time you go into surgery, it's a risk.

Now that I have had the surgery I can 100% say I do not regret it. I am doing great and I only wish I had done it sooner. I have finally taken control of my life in a way that I never was able to before. I had tried diet after diet and always gained it all back, ending up frustrated and angry at myself.

Surgery isn't for everyone, that's true. It's something to think long and hard about, but when you're ready, you're ready =)

scaredoftheunknown

i never ever had any first, second, or third thoughts against being sleeved.

i had tried all the different diets too, nothing lasted for long, and i would always gain the weight back, i just had no self-control

i could never lose this weight without gaining it back

it was do or die

i no longer need my c-pap - no more high blood pressure meds, no more diabetes meds either

i also have to take epilepsy meds twice a day - since i lost so much weight they had to reduce the dosage - something i never thought would happen, i am most excited about that

good luck

kathy

Thank you. You know that is why I really won't give up on having the surgery. I am diabetic and the medications for it make me very sick. I too have hbp. How long ago was your surgery?

Thanks for your support.

I think one of my biggest fear is that what if after the surgery I have complications like leaks, or I just don't know what. But reading everyones responses has really helped me. I know there are risks with surgery but at this point I think it's more of a risk not to have the surgery.

Thanks.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
