I am new here and awaiting to get surgery date from Portmouth Naval Hospital. I want to know if any have reduced or was able to stop depression meds. Did the VSG help with depression?

Now that I have been sleeved I am in counseling to deal with the root of my weight problem so that I can develop coping skills other than eating. This is a journey and will not end for me by losing the weight.

I'm only pre-op, but I've read lots on the subject and it seems a lot of people are initially depressed because of coping with all the changes, but overall, I think once you get the lifestyle down and start seeing the new you, your attitude will improve! I think it depends on what your current depression stems from. If you have other diagnoses or causes, then it might not take it 100% away... but down the line medication adjustments will be needed whether you have surgery or not.

This surgery has causes me depression i never had before. But its getting better

honestly ... I think it got worse becos a coping mechanism was removed and loss of the only "control" or lack of ... contributed to aggravating the depression/anxiety/aggression.
