We are staying in this fabulous 5 star resort.Got bumped up to a Grand Suite! To fancy or words I say!

My family wants to go to this fabulous international buffet now and I somehow dread this.

When will this get easier for me?

FYI,I had half a glass of red wine and of course my inhibition slightly reduced thus my lust for food, but thank goodness my sleeve is faithfull.

Just saying.

Buffets are tricky with our little sleeves...I've done a few, but I never get my money's worth!! And no doggy bags :(

At the seafood buffet I usually get a bowl of steamed clams, and take my sweet time when dining with my family...that way the pace works out ok...but you really only eat a few ounces of Protein all the rest is shells...then I might have a bit of stir fry from the teppan grill - 2oz of rib-eye with bean sprouts, mushrooms and a bit of napa cabbage...

At the Mexican buffet, 1/2 a bowl of Soup that I just have a few spoon fulls of, then maybe two tacos - and I leave the tortilla behind, a small salad with a nice pepita dressing.

I don't go out much to tell you the truth, but vacations are always special and I do intend to enjoy all my future vacations, whatever the table might bring, I will try and enjoy it while still respecting my sleeve.

Man, I hate when the folks you're dining with choose to go to a buffet! It's impossible for a sleever to get their money's worth and at least at a regular restaurant, I'm likely to have leftovers to last for a few more meals! It's so frustrating to have to go to a buffet!

My husband and I just booked a 2 week vacation in the Mexican Riviera (long, long overdue!) at a wonderful all-inclusive resort.

We're traveling in January 2013 and I will no doubt be challenged with the buffets, a la carte dinners, alcohol, smoothies, etc.

However I think my husband will have a great time, we will take part in many physical activities, tours, snorkeling, diving, etc. The food and drink are not important to me. The sun, beach and relaxation are!

I will ABSOLUTELY not get my money's worth in food and drink. Nor will my husband be able to make up for my small portions, by eating more himself (he's losing weight also, on a low-carb diet). And I don't care in the least!

We will enjoy the resort amenities, the atmosphere, weather and other guests. We'll enjoy what we do eat and drink, and I will get my money's worth of relaxation, recharging my batteries and enjoying my slimmer body.

We go out to restaurants now and usually order an appetizer for me and an entree for him (sometimes I just eat a bit of his entree). We've been to a few buffets and it just doesn't make sense to spend the money anymore. I don't miss the buffets at all.

At least in an all-inclusive, I can treat the buffet as if it was an a la carte restaurant and just build my own small plate, as if I had ordered it like that on my own. It's already paid for, so less of a feeling of wasted money!

Hopefully I'll be down another 30-35 lbs by then (in ONDERLAND for the first time in 25 years!) and be able to do activities I've always wanted to, but never could (zip-lining, horseback riding, para-sailing, diving, etc.)

I go to buffets with the family, but I was 8 months out before I went to one. I wouldn't pick one on my own, but if someone else wants to go, I'm in. Now that I can eat a little more, I like them because I can get a teeny spoon of several different things.

As far as "getting your money's worth", if I have a good time, that's enough for me. The other people make up for what I don't eat.

Well,we went out and I said "I'm going to have the buffet tonight".

They all very politely nodded their heads.

Then I said "wait,I need time to decide. Please get me a cappuchino and give me a few minutes".at that point I just moved to the soft seating area and sat there, sipped my coffee, enjoyed the ambiance and voila, the rebellion was gone.

Went back and asked my kids that took food off the a la carte menu to just give me a bite each and I finished it off with a teeny tiny bit of a coffee pudding.I harly had 3 bites in total but I really wasnt actually hungry, just wanted to eat because I wanted to...lol

The crazy thing is I really had 3 teeny tiny bites,a teaspoon of hummus,a little bite of the coffee thingy and I was satisfied.Instead of ordering a buggy to and from the restaurant we walked so we even had some exercise.

I am enjoying my surroundings and tomorrow I might have a cocktail at the pool bar, just because I want to and because I know everything will be fine foodwize if I can just take a few minutes to reason with myself about this feeling that I every now and then get, missing being able to just eat mindlessly.

This is my first hotel stay post op and I started worrying about it earlier in the week already. But it is all good and best of all I look so much better and feel so much better.

I have been trying to change the way I think about buffets. My family loves buffets and I don't want to miss out on hanging out with them because of my eating restrictions. For me I am paying for the company and the experience. I try to not think that I am wasting money because I don't get my money's worth at the buffet anymore. I just think about how much I ate way way more than my money's worth prior to surgery. It all has to balance out right? lol

I have been to several and just eat really slow and take a small bite of everything I want. It is nice to have the variety of food even if you can only have one bite.

Money is not really an issue at all.I think I thought of the cost of it as I didnt want my family to have all that nice food either...lol. A bit of a rebellious thing in me sometimes, and a bit childish..hehe!

The wonderful thing is my kids (20 and 11) are skinny and have gr8 habits. They looked at the buffet, said there was way too much food and ordered themselves something quite small in my opinion, off the a la carte menu.

I can surely learn from them!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
