Hi everyone ❤️

I’m 53 and from the UK. I’ve struggled with my weight for many years and have tried lots of different diets, weight-loss programmes and medication. I’ve lost weight and regained it, and I’m now seriously considering gastric sleeve surgery.

I’ve recently spoken at length with a bariatric clinic, and after discussing my history and options, gastric sleeve has been recommended as the most suitable option for me.

I’m nervous because it’s a big decision and I’ve never had bariatric surgery before.

I’d really love to hear from anyone who’s had a sleeve, particularly anyone in the UK.

What do you wish you’d known before surgery, and would you make the same decision again?

I’d also be interested in hearing from anyone who has had surgery privately in the UK and what their experience was like.

I had a gastric sleeve at 43 10 years ago now I lost 175 lb I can't wait to that 170 I have absolutely no regrets only occasional mild heartburn easily managed with over-the-counter medication.

I had the surgery privately in 2021. I am now 67. I started at 330lbs and am happy to be around 185lbs. I was so disabled with the weight.

I wished I had done this sooner but never had enough money and my doctors would never entertain the idea, all they said was go to a dietician. I could loose weight and put it back on in the blink of an eye. I went to Spire Hospitals. They were wonderful and will forever have my gratitude.

The surgery wasn,t an issue for me, I have had loads. It was the 8 months I had to wait for it to happen that killed me. I lack patience. I had to do a pre op, liver shrink diet for 3 weeks before surgery that was brutal.

I woke after surgery to a new happy me. This me had the runs, bad.

I had a swollen internal new stomach. It was hard to drink for a while and they looked after me well.. I had to stay with them a few more days than was the norm.

Would I go through it all again if needed , yes in a heart beat. I am now the person I always wanted to be. I travel all over the world and never have people look at me anymore with disgusted eyes. I love my new self, baggy skin yes but come winter no one will know.

I had it aged 54 in Feb this year so only 7 months ago.

It’s been dramatic the changes that’s for certain, I went through severe regret (apparently called buyers remorse) for a short spell but that passed quickly. I wish I had known that was coming as I was unprepared for it!

I’ve lost 50kg so far and despite it being tricky at times I would do it all again if I had to.
